We decided last night to upgrade to WL from POR for our August trip! WL is our favorite resort and we couldn't pass up the chance to stay here again! I didn't realize the extent of the construction until after I upgraded. Are there recent reports as to how things are being affected around the resort?

@TeresaWen, I'm glad you finally found someone who admitted it! It took a long time before the official word about the expansion/rehab made it to the CMs; they're usually the last to know or the last who are allowed to say anything publicly.

Just so you know, the CR has a gym and you would have been permitted to use it. However, that's not very convenient since you have to take the Blue Flag there and back. The YC does share a small gym, Ship Shape, with the BC so it tends to get very crowded in the morning. If the gym is very important to you, which I can appreciate, BWI's Muscles and Bustles is much less crowded than Ship Shape since it only serves one resort. However, you have to be staying there to get in.

thanks! The lack of info is mind boggling! I asked specifically if I could us the fitness center in the Contemporary and could not get a straight answer, especially since they were insisting that the WL club would be open. Not worth the risk so we switched.

we have stayed in the yacht club before the health club was redone. I get there pretty early and it was usually empty!

We just returned from our first stay at WL, and we are in love. What a truly magical place! The construction was not a problem for us at all, and we loved how quiet all the amenities were with so many rooms offline.

We were in room 4062 (standard) and had views of the Contemporary, monorail, Space Mountain, and Wishes.

We also can't say enough good things about Territory Lounge--fondue, cobbler, pork nachos! Yum.

Totally, totally magical.

I'm thinking about booking a night at the Wilderness Lodge since we has a breakfast reservation at the Poly (my current reservation is business class at Coronado Springs). I thought it would be convenient, but it doesn't look like there is a ferry that runs that route. Can some one give me some insight on that? Thanks!

You would have several options:

Boat to CR, monorail to Poly
Boat to MK, monorail to Poly
Boat to MK, boat to Poly
Bus to MK, monorail to Poly
Bus to MK, boat to Poly

Regardless, I would allow a good hour, though it would likely be faster. The Lodge is awesome, though!

I was really hoping for something direct. Thanks for the quick reply!

The last time we stayed at VWL (2015), at least one of the bus routes somewhere (one of the water parks or DTD/Disney Springs) included stops at Grand Floridian and Poly. So it may be worth as look at the bus stop to see if this is still the case and whether it would work in the early morning hours, before your breakfast reservation.

First post of this thread has a link to all things construction

Currently booked at Coronado for FD in August. But just saw that WL has some standard rooms available for our dates. My sons have said this is their dream resort to stay at and I'm considering a surprise switch! But my concern is the construction! I'm afraid of spending the extra and being disappointed with too much of a mess there.

Can someone who's been there recently give me some feedback? The difference is going to be about $700. Is it worth it given the current state?

I know there are threads all about the construction, but I don't want to wade through hundreds of posts. Really looking for some recent experience--thanks!

Just read the last few pages of this thread to get some recent reports. :)

Does anyone have recent reports on the construction? I'm hearing the impact is minimal including the noise... We are at gf dec 8 but might switch... It seems most of the construction thread is about DVC sales.

Ok thanks... I did see the above post but still couldn't find anything recent ... I'll check yours out ... I know about the interior walls, elevator and cranes ? (I think ?)
The majority of the construction is on the beach where they are building the new restaurant or whatever it is. Disney does a good job of blocking the view of the construction from the public so most of the work can only be viewed from the villas building rooms that face the lake. We need to have some of those guests reporting back here. ;)

It's not letting me edit... The lobby is the same regarding it still has the same charm minus the walls and blocked off elevator

Wow, it sounds awful ! :( especially regarding the exposed pipes. I know you said the lobby is the same but I'm really questioning what I should do.
I would stay somewhere else in December. I imagine the cabin construction to be in full swing by then, although I could be wrong. On the other hand, if you are the type of guest who plans to stay in the parks during construction hours, then I don't think you'll hear any noise from it.

It really all depends on what kind of vacation you are looking for.
