You'll get a lot more answers if you try this question on the DVC board.
Disney's Vero Beach resort is part of the DVC resorts and there are many people on the DVC boards, including me, who have stayed there. Vero beach is a really nice beach resort, the CM seem to work extra hard to provide Disney magic and levels of service because they are away from WDW. It has an excellent pool area with slide, it's right on the beach, has a couple of very good restaurants (although a little more expensive than similar in the area). They offer a number of activities and kids programs. It's a great place to spend a couple of relaxing days after a hectic stay at WDW in the parks. It takes about 3 hours to drive from WDW to Vero, generally I would do a 2 or 3 night stay there. Leave WDW early and get to Vero by about midday, precheck in and get myself to the pool or beach until the room is ready.
I would rate the quality of the resort as certainly higher than a WDW moderate resort, maybe not quite to the standard of the Y+B club or GF, but pretty close to most of the delux WDW resorts.
