Disney's Relationship with Lucasfilm

Does anyone out there know what the relationship is? Strictly business? Amiable?

On my website we're having a discussion about the Muppet Babies cartoon and how it's being held up from DVD release due to it using multiple clips from both Indiana Jones and Star Wars (both Lucasfilm Properties). I find it weird that there are TWO attractions dedicated to these movies in the same park as Muppet Vision 3D.

Does anyone know? Does anyone care? Does anyone know what I'm even saying?!

I don't think Lucasfilm is really the problem. I'm under the impression that it's the sheer number of clips from other sources that is making a DVD release next to impossible.

I don't think it's JUST Lucasfilm.

I can't imagine that Lucasfilm would have anything other than a good relationship with Disney.

Well, that part was discussed as well, but Lucasfilm is notorious for charging an arm and a leg for usage of their properties, where some of the others that are used in the show aren't too expensive, and at this time are probably in public domain.

I know that music licensing is what holds up a lot of TV shows from that timeframe from being released on DVD, so I would think more than anything it's probably a matter of figuring out every single clip that is used in the show and then securing the rights or whatever. If I remember correctly (it's been a long time), each episode had several different clips... they would have to get rights for every single one that was used.

Just speculation on my part... but it seems odd that with the amount of licensing Disney and Lucasfilm already do that it would be LF holding up the release of something as benign as the Muppet Babies.
