Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

I am pretty sure I did, but I figure it can't hurt to request it. I had previously been told that King rooms aren't guaranteed at POR? Either way, it doesn't hurt to make the request as well.

As has been said, King Bed is a booking category (like River View, Royal Room, Preferred Location, etc) rather than something optional that you can request. You can see the category of your booking on the MDE website if you look at your reservation there (e.g. Standard, Garden View, Pool View, King Bed).

The online requests system was updated about a month ago and included some strange options that are not really realistic requests. I've been told the list should have been changed now to remove some of the items that are not appropriate for the current booking, but it might take a while to implement for imminent reservations. Could you (or someone else who is arriving within 60 days) maybe get a screenshot of what options you were offered so we can see what's there now? Thanks.

Andre

The options offered are:

Adjoining rooms
Corner room
Ground floor
Highest floor
Mansions area
King-sized bed

I asked my TA to book a king-sized room, but he reserved a standard and said he made the request to get a king. If I don't get a king, it won't be the end of the world for me, so I was okay with requesting a standard and hoping for pixie dust. He seemed to feel it would be likely I'd be able to get a king, as most people travel to Disney with more than two people and don't typically want a king.

But que sera sera!

It's a good way to look at it. But I'm really bothered that your TA tried to tell you that King was by request only. Hate when I hear when TAs lie or are wrong (both equally bad in my view).
But there are LOTS of couples that go to Disney without kids. If King was unavailable for your stay then it likely means they were sold out. Wouldn't hurt to ask the TA to check to change the reservation, if you want. Though if it doesn't matter then may be worth saving the little bit of extra money and leaving it by request.

To clarify, he didn't say that Kings were by request only. He just didn't have any of those rooms available at a discounted price, and I didn't mind taking the chance because I was originally at POP where a King wasn't guaranteed either, anyway, and I would much rather stay at POR in a queen than even a king at POP. Sooooooooo... it is worth a roll of the dice for the price I got, which was amazing.

Based on our last 2 trips to POFQ the buses to/from MK were not shared except for a very early AM bus we used to get to a pre-park openning ADR at CP. For Epcot and DHS buses at the end of the night were not shared. Mid-Day was mixed at Epot (weekend sometimes seperate, it was F & W).
BTW we walk up to POR several times a trip even when we stayed in Building 1. Get a copy of the resort maps. You can save steps using short cuts through the POFQ courtyards rather than sticking to the river path.
Thank you for this info ... Super Helpful!!

SummerLady... Congrats on discovering THE #1 hidden gem of a restaurant, in Boatwright's. Amazing food that no one knows about. I'm just sorry that you didn't get the chance to have the bananas foster for dessert.

I'm going to have to check Boatwright's out. I used to hear nothing but negative things, and now I'm hearing so much positive! I have stayed at POR many times and I have never eaten there.

We even got to take the golf cart to the room. We were fortunate enough that the room was ready early.

I have definitely utilized the golf cart. They even hauled my luggage up and down the stairs for me. Bell services is the best!

Hi! Do you normally have to have a reservation for Boatwrights? Or can you usually get seated if you just walk in? Thanks!

We've done both, gotten seated quickly and made ADR just before walking over. I have seen it full a time or two. Rare but it can happen. Best advice I have is to make an ADR if you can, just to eliminate the question will they or won't they, have room.

Not our first time, Boatwright's is our traditional first night dinner. And we have to have the pecan pie!

We are at PORS right now. We're in preferred section (we requested and received building 18, to be close to the pool). We are a 30 second walk to a quiet pool and a 3 minute walk to the food court. This is great because we use our mugs from the dining plan. We are doing breakfasts in our room - OJ boxes in fridge and bagels (we packed these in our suitcases and brought them here). We take our bagels into the food court and toast them. We bring a jar of peanut butter too (they have jam / honey packs in the food court). Also, with the dining plan we've been able to swap out our drinks here (because we have mugs already). For example, I got the build your own pasta- entree, ice cream sundae-dessert, and fruit cup - swapped out drink for the fruit cup (and then put fruit cup in fridge for breakfast next day). DD17 got build your own salad- entree, cookie - dessert, and chicken noodle soup - swapped out drink for the soup. We also like to boat to Disney Springs - Wolfgang Puck Express is great use of quick service credit in Marketplace, Disney Springs and the boat ride is lovely. Have a great trip!

Love all these tips .. thank you for sharing!! :)

Off the top of my head, I have a couple, but I'm sure I'll think of more! Don't miss Yeha Bob! His show is a blast! Also, the boats are awesome, but sometimes there's a bit of a wait. If you have an ADR in DS, make sure you allow plenty of time.

We have an ADR in DS our first day there so thank you for the heads up! How much time do you think I should allow? I've never used the boats to go to DS - I'm super excited!!

Disney at Christmas time is AMAZING! Our favorite time of the year to go ( I can't get myself to go any other time lol) We generally go the first week of December. When are you going?
I know! We went in 2013, the second week of December, for my 30th bday and it has since been my all time favorite trip. It's just so pretty. We didn't have a little one yet but when we go in 2017 she'll be 3. I can't wait for her to see it! We will be going the first week of December 2017!

We always make a reservation, just to be sure. We checked in half an hour early last Sunday and we're seated right away. :)
That's great to hear. We will be checking in on a Sunday and not doing a park that day, so this gives me an idea for dinner! I'll def make sure I do a reservation. Thanks!

That's when we'll be going! (we always go that week lol) We took our daughter for her first trip when she was only 12 weeks old - she's two this year so I'm excited for her to really get to experience it all. She's a Disney lover like her Momma so it should be a blast! (I just realized our daughters are the same age!)

Maybe this is a dumb question, but while looking at pics of the Murphy bed, is there a blanket or just sheets? Should we bring a small blanket?
