Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

The River View category rooms are the nicest, 1444 or 1448 being my favourites. If you want just Preferred Location, 1449 has a partial view of the river (from the second corner window) and pathway too.

Andre- thanks so much for your information. Since we are looking at 2nd floor would I be correct in assuming that 2444 and 2448 would also be your choices? We've paid for Preferred, but I wonder if I could request River view and have one of those choices guaranteed?

Royal Room - no price difference between river and pool view. Which is preferable? Or would garden view be just as nice? Thanks!

2444 and 2448 are not river view (which is why I was recommending the building 14 rooms, as you asked for the best ones there). They are in building 24, which is a good bit further away. You can't request River View though, it is a booking category. (Well, you can request it, but to do so they would be giving you a free upgrade, which does sometimes happen).

Royal Pool View guarantees you a nice location near to the footbridge leading to the main buildings, so for the same price I think that's what I'd go for.

I'm not Andre, but I've done lots of research and stayed there many times. You can't be guaranteed anything unless you book it. Everyone's suggestion is always to request what you want (2nd floor, close to the river) rather than what room. You could say, "2nd floor, close to the river, like 2444 and 2448."

We are going back to POR in Sept. I have a BBB ressie at Disney Springs at 9:20 am for my daughter. I figured we would take the boat over (Does it run that early?) and then will meet DH and DS at MK for lunch at 12:15. Would it be quicker to take the boat back to POR and get a bus to MK, or use the bus depot at DS and take a bus to Contemporary and walk to MK?

The boats don't start running early enough (they start at 10am).

To get from Disney Springs to the MK the best route would be by bus to the Contemporary and then walk over, or by bus to the Grand Floridian and then take the monorail (whichever happens first, it might be the same bus so just get off at the first monorail-loop hotel you get to).

Thank you so much! I assume there will be a bus running to Disney Springs, early enough to get me there for 9:20?

I agree with Andre, pool view gives you a guaranteed location close to foot bridge. So it would depend what your priority is, view or location.

Garden view is nice too. We had a GV in Oak Manor that overlooked the fountain on the river side of the building. The pool view rooms were just behind me so I was close to the footbridge. But that's a request, for being close to footbridge. A pool view guarantees that location.

Another bus question for those who have visited POR recently. We have several very early morning ADRs and must use bus transportation. Will likely be in a mansion room since that is our request. Are we better off walking to South Depot or going to the nearest stop behind Magnolia Bend? Don't want to risk the bus being full before we can get on. Last trip we always walked to South Depot because I liked the screens announcing arrivals (they don't have those at other stops yet do they?) but it was always a mob scene first thing in the morning. Thanks in advance.
We were just there in June. There were TV screens in all depots with bus arrival times. We used the west depot and we were almost always the first pick-up on the bus route. Have fun!

Thank you all for the great information! I just finalized the dates for our upcoming trip...we are spending 9 nights at POR this December to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary! DH and I honeymooned at POFQ (my very first trip to Disney World), so Port Orleans feels a bit like home . This will be our longest trip, thanks to a great deal on Southwest flights, and we are looking forward to slowing down a bit (maybe...).

The Contemporary now shares with the Wlderness Lodge for the DS bus. We took it last month. :)

Thank you both. We do plan to spend more time at the resort than we normally do this trip, so view is slightly important, but convenience more so. Appreciate the feedback!!!

Hi all! We just booked POR for 11 days next June and I am doing my happy dance!

We booked a standard room, which is making me a little nervous. I don't really care about the view, etc., but I'm a little worried about distance to transportation. I don't care which bus stop, but I'd like to be at least a less than 10 minute walk from the stop. Does the layout there have many rooms that are further than that?? We stayed at POFQ last time specifically for the smaller layout, but we were still in like almost literally the furthest room from transportation (even though I put in a request that we be close)! I definitely don't want to be further than we were then. Am I taking a risk not paying for preferred?

There are no rooms in POR that are more than about 650 yards (7-8 minutes walk) from anywhere (bus stops, main building, etc). And with the four bus stops, your closest one is never going to be more than about 400 yards (5 minutes or so) away - about the same maximum as at FQ.

So happy to hear this. Thank you!

If we want a room that is close to the food court, the bus, and the pool is that a preferred location? Is there a different booking category that would suit those needs better?

Actually all those points are what makes a preferred room preferred.

Can someone who is there now or who recently retuned confirm that there is shampoo and conditioner in the rooms? I'm trying to lighten my suitcase.

Thanks.
