Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

We are super excited to have switched from a Lion King Suite at AoA to two Garden View rooms at POR Sept 11-20. One question I have is do all AB rooms have the Murphy beds or only some? I was thinking it would be nice to have, but with only 3 booked to each room we would not be automatically put in those rooms unless I requested AB, but if they do not all have them it would not help.

All the rooms in AB have Murphy Beds.

1. Confirming the refrigerators in room DO NOT have a freezer section.
2. They have box fans based on availability.

There are no freezer compartments in the fridges, and no box fans in the rooms (I've heard a few people say they've been able to ask for one, but I can't say for sure).

Spirit isn't one of the airlines which participates in the Resort Airline Checkin process, and I think the feature of automatically giving you boarding passes is linked to that operation (not 100% sure though). The front desk can easily do it for you though, just take your flight details to them and they can log in to the airline website and print them out for you. Note: they won't print your own files directly from a memory card or email though.

Thanks Andre!

I need help/opinions on a timing/ scheduling concern. We are booked at Riverside and I would LOVE to take my daughter on one of the carriage rides. The only night I think we could fit it in is the day we arrive. Our plane lands at 9am and we plan to go right to Animal Kingdom and hang out until about 330 then headback for a late nap (my little one will be almost 3 so that is a must). She will likely be up around 530 and We have late dinner reservations at Le Cellier for 8:30. What time would you attempt to book a carriage ride? They leave on the hour and on the half hour and last 25 minutes. I was hoping for like a 7pm but wasn't sure if that would be cutting it too close to make our reservation at Le Cellier (we will be using the bus system).

I think 7pm might be a bit tight, I'd suggest 6:30pm to give yourself a bit more breathing space in case you just miss a bus, allow an easier walking pace inside Epcot, etc.

I was wondering if there are shower/ locker facilities at the pool? We are going to be hanging out at the pool after check out and I would love for us to be able to get showers and change into regular clothes before our drive to North Fort Myers.

Will my husband like POR and the Royal Rooms? For our first family trip to Disney, we stayed at the Grand Floridian for 4 nights, and we were pixie dust upgraded to a corner Magic Kingdom view. It was so wonderful, but crazy expensive! Our son has special needs, and we thought a monorail resort would be worth the splurge for what might be our only trip to Disney for many years if he didn't do well there and/or we needed to leave quickly.

However, we had a great time, and for our return trip, we thought we might rent a house to save money and have more space, but then some rooms opened up at POR with free dining, and I think it will be even less expensive than a nice rental house and we will enjoy more table service meals and onsite perks. My daughter should love the Royal Rooms. I booked one yesterday. We'll miss the balcony and the firework view, but we'll try to see the fireworks in the park this time. Then I just read a post on another thread (Is a deluxe resort worth it?) where someone commented that they only stayed at POR for an hour before switching to the GF. Now I'm worried my husband might not like it. He does like the photos of the resort and the rooms, so hopefully the doors opening to the outside, the smaller room, and the lack of closets won't be an issue. Our trip is just 4 nights, and we hope to spend as much time as possible in the parks, with a little swim time one afternoon, weather permitting.

I booked a garden view royal room. We will have our car, so we will not need to be close to a bus stop, but it would be nice if it was somewhat close to the food court. What should I request so that we might be assigned a nice, quiet, convenient room?

Thanks so much!

All the rooms at POR are nice. In general, POR is a very quiet relaxing resort. And I would request "close to foot bridge" for a room convenient to the food court.

My whole family simply ADORES POR. I have absolutely no need for any of the deluxe options. I sleep, shower and get dressed in the room after all.... I don't live in it! :)

The amount of people we get in this thread who have switched from (say) the Poly for price or construction work reasons and end up absolutely loving POR. I'd just say to set your expectations to the right level before you go: it is a moderate resort after all, and half the price of the Grand Flo and there must be a reason for that price difference. It's whether you let things like lack of internal corridors and no balconies, or no room service or evening turn-down service, or lack of fitness room, etc actually impact on your enjoyment of your stay. Personally, I've also stayed at Wilderness Lodge and the Beach Club (twice, mainly for Epcot proximity) and yet we keep coming back to POR year on year.

Well we made the switch from CBR preferred over to POR garden view, with FD!!!! We will be there September 13-18!

Super excited as I've always wanted to stay at POR. September can not come soon enough!

There are shower and change room facilities at the main pool. I'm not sure about the lockers, though.

Yes, the main pool area has showers, changing facilities and pay-lockers - perfect for a swim before you leave. You can also request a 1pm checkout time which might help too (not guaranteed though, it depends on how busy they are and whether they need the room back quickly).

Tomorrow is check-in day at POR!!! Can't wait to get there. Hope to run into some of you while we're there. I never faxed anything in. Figured I would just go with the flow. I mean, seriously, how awful can any RR with a river view be??!!!!

We too stayed at the GF last year for a once in a lifetime trip paid for by my parents. This year was an unplanned, unbudgeted trip to POR. We planned to wait until we could save for WL but once I saw how cheap we could get POR for free dining we decided to go for it! I know I will miss sipping a glass of wine on the balcony while the littles nap, but we will survive!

Quick question...we will be staying in AB as we are a family of 5+1. If there are no closets where do we keep suitcases? I guess we could always unpack them and store them in our car?

Do the fridges get cold enough to keep uncrustables frozen?

I realize this may seem like a stupid question...but sometimes the mini fridges do get cold enough and even though there isn't a freezer, it still keeps stuff frozen. I was wondering if the ones at POR get this cold?

They do! During my last trip I cranked our fridge up to freeze our water bottles to bring with us to the parks each day. Worked perfectly :thumbsup2

Awesome! That makes me super happy!!

Thanks!!!

That made me think of another question...will it freeze everything or just what is towards the back? I'll put the uncrustables and water bottles along the back and then put reg drinks and leftover desserts to the front.
