Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

I have to second just about every one of those ideas Andrew! I really miss the way it was back in the DxLs day!!! Breakfast at Boatwrights was a great way to start an unhurried day! I really miss that. And a walkway to DTD would be incredible. Sure, some won't want to make that trek, but it sure would be a nice option.

When I looked into it in detail, I found that the entire route has a paved walkable pathway already, apart from that 130 yards from FQ to the neighbouring roadway. You could actually walk round through a service area pretty easily, but that track is not listed as guest-accessible.

We recently decided to make a trip to WDW and POR April 2-6 2015, a short visit over Easter. We are flying Thursday evening after work, have Good Friday off, and are flying home early Monday morning to be back at work - giving us 3 full days at WDW with no vacations days required. We have stayed at POR twice previously - and we love the landscaping, boat to DTD, and Yehaw Bob. This will be our fourth trip to WDW in a 7 month period! Annual passes keep us returning.

Those are all great ideas, Andrew! I would love to be able to walk to DTD and I would definitely own a POR t-shirt! I also agree at breakfast is INSANE in the food court.

Can someone tell me what the pros and cons are to Online Check in. DH and I are not sure of the value in doing it.

If I'm arriving on a Friday what day should I send a fax request in? Also I've reserved a Preferred room and when I spoke to the cast member I asked for a river view and not a parking lot view and he entered that in the system. In an earlier post you said those rooms are actually river rooms. Should I change the type of room or hope for the best?

It's quite possible without any requests being made, yes.

As you say, King Bed category rooms are located all around the resort, with lots of different view types. Of course on the other hand it's also possible you might get a fabulous river view - although that's maybe a bit less likely with an Alligator Bayou requirement (for three people in the room) as there aren't so many King Bed rooms overlooking the river in the AB section - just three in fact, as they are mostly in the mansion buildings.

Just follow the general advice on making requests, and keep your fingers crossed.

Andre

On that note, do I need to specify a pull-down bunk in the request or will they just assume I need it with 3 people? And, can I request a preferred room under a king bed reservation?

Send your fax whenever suits you. I tend to suggest about 3-5 days out is best (no more than 5 anyway) so perhaps on the Tuesday? But there isn't a special timer at the resort which incinerates fax messages that dare to arrive outside of a certain window. :)

Yes, technically the river-facing rooms in buildings 14 and 27 are sold as River View category. You can request one of course, but officially they would be giving you an upgrade. If you change your booking to River View then you could be located a bit further away of course (e.g. building 38, or Acadian House mansion) so you need to decide which feature is more important to be guaranteed for your group: location or view.

If you have booked a King Bed room with three occupants (all aged 3 or older) then yes, you will automatically get an Alligator Bayou room with a pull-down bed.

You can request any area you want, since King Bed category 'trumps' any other room details (e.g. views, locations, etc). If you look on my building floorplans, you could be assigned to any AB room that is coloured purple on the maps, which gives you an idea of the options available if you want to put in a request.

During our last trip, we had a split stay, we arrived at POR around 10 pm. We were exhausted and went to bed almost right away. The next morning, we had plans so we left right after breakfast. We were sad to leave and regretted booking the resort just for 1 night.

Next month, we are going on a cruise and had planned another split stay post-cruise, starting at SSR (which sounds really nice!) ... But I simply couldn't forget about POR and desperately wanted to go back.

Well, I was taking a look at the prices this afternoon and I noticed that we could get a Garden View Royal Guest Room for 65$ less than what we had paid for SSR (that we had previously chosen because we had a reservation at Raglan Road that night)... POR has boat transportation going to Downtown Disney...

So here we are... Going back to POR. And it feels so good!! :bounce:

It's going to be perfect!

I did my advanced check-in and requested a corner room?!? (I don't know, that sounds nice...)

I had a corner room a week ago. It was very nice!

We will be staying at POR Riverside April 16-20, gardenview room. Which building should I request that is closest to the dining hall without being preferred?

We get Bldg. 16 as you can usually cut through Bldg. 14 to get to the food court pretty quick. We're there now! :)

We are going for a four day weekend, arriving Thursday night of Columbus Day weekend, and just staying till Columbus Day. I have a mentally challenged, physically handicapped, autistic, epileptic 18 year old son. I cannot afford more than the standard view room, otherwise I'd book a preferred room.

Our big challenge will be walking long distances. Our son can walk, but tires easily. I will fax a request in closer to our date, but how likely will it be that we may have a room far away from the food court due to the resort being crowded that weekend and the resort not able to meet our request?

Also, would it be better to request a room close to an elevator? Or a ground floor room?

I've never been at POR before, so I'm a bit nervous about the distances.

Hi, i wonder if you've been on this trip and would like to know how you and your son managed.
We have two asthmatics iin the family and im afraid Florida's humid weather wont be too good for us.
We stayed at AKL last time just to be in the aircondition most times, but this trip is longer and wanted try a moderate.

Actually I have been thoroughly checking out your maps. Very helpful! Thanks :)

We had a last minute weekend getaway and stayed at POR last week. This was our first time at this resort and I'm kinda in love :love:It's beautiful and there's so much to do. Also we just happened to gat an amazing room. It was a corner room in the Magnolia building facing the river very close to the pool and food. A couple times we opened the door and a horse drawn carriage would be passing by, my kids loved that.

The only concern I had was that the beds were so noisy, they were comfortable but so squeaky, any slight movement and they would squeak. Has anyone else noticed this or was this just a freak thing?

I have a question also about the fishing hole :fish:, my son wants to go fishing and I'm clueless about it so he would like to take advantage of that on our next trip. How does that work? Thanks!
