Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Traveling with 2 older kids who can't really share a bed, so POR is a great option for us with the pull down bed ... Is the extra bed available in all Alligator Bayou rooms or just in the preferred rooms? I know you have to book a preferred room to be guaranteed the extra bed, but I'm wondering if I could book a less expensive room & then request any AB building & still get the extra bed?

Yes, all the AB rooms have the Murphy Bed.

Ok - help please. I love pofq but we are staying at riverside this trip- because it was in Bounceback.
I've always like to look of Riverside but it's the four bus stops and size that has deterred me.
I called Disney and asked how much extra it would be to add a preferred room to our reservation. It ended up being about 150 for a princess room or 100 for a preferred room. She said all rooms have the bonus smaller bed. (Found out this isn't true after the call) I ended up booking the princess room for a seven-year-old.
I have read Andre's page about the new bus route.
It's important to me to be able to get on the bus in the morning. Worried east or south would be full- so thinking of asking to get near west.
Other factor is to be near to main building for drink refill. So thinking alligator preferred building. Any insight on good location would be appreciated. I'm struggling to picture the walk using the maps.
(We stayed at csr near first bus stop- this was perfect, got my seat with baby in arms and stroller tucked in before bus filled up so I didn't stress )

Thank you

We just booked a trip in early May for POR and have a couple questions...

I know that roof work is going on at magnolia terrace for a while... Is this the only mansion being worked on? I requested the Acadian house to be close to north depot as well as a bridge. I don't mind them working on the building next over but if it's going to be on mine I will change my request.

Next what is this I'm hearing about them possibly closing the footbridge(s)? Is this due to the pool refurb? If so I'm assuming they'll surely be open once that's complete. We're sure this is just a small refurb right? Need to have muddy rivers open when I'm there for some poolside drinks :)

I'm sure I'm missing the answers in previous posts but I read 10 pages back and figured I'd just ask.

princess rooms are all very far from west depot as they are only located in the 2 mansion buildings closest to french quarter. We always just request to be close to the foot bridge and its a 3-5 min walk to main building and south bus stop. We've only ever used the south bus stop and other than the crowds, have never had an issue getting on a bus. If your main focus is convenience and you think you won't be able to enjoy a leisurely stroll to the main building I really suggest you go back and book preferred.

Hello! We love POR it is a gorgeous resort. If you would like to be close to the main building for the drink refills, I would definitely book preferred. That way you also get the little murphy bed if that matters to you. All of the preferred buildings are in Alligator Bayou...my favourite location....it is so lush and beautiful. This would put you nearest to the South depot, but I have not had bad luck with the bus wait times, even if you are at the last stop on the loop if the bus is full, another is usually close behind.

Good luck on your decision!

Does anyone know what the doors to the rooms are made out of? Would something magnetic stick or is it best to bring some tape to lightly hang something?

I wanted to take my "Congratulations Graduate" banners from my grad dinner to the hotel and hang on my door to celebrate. Just wasn't sure what would work best :)

After not being able to get the deluxe we wanted, we have decided to stay here again. I was a little bummed at first, I love the boat ride to MK from WL. However, I think the kids will love this. (And we are saving some $$) I have a little better knowledge now of POR from our last stay. We got in late, wasn't informed about bell services and hauled everything to our 2nd floor AB room including stroller.

This time we booked preferred. I'm going to request first floor. My questions are do any have a pool/river view? Are the corner rooms by steps and is there any pictures of them? Also, the pirate cruise, do only the kids go by themselves? Or can adults tag along (if so, does that cost more?)

Looking forward to enjoying POR with the kids and stopping by POFQ to see kids pool. Carriage ride, boat ride to Springs, campfire/movies, arcade.

Technically there are no pool or river views within the Preferred Locations booking category, as the rooms which have those views are sold under the Pool and River View categories (even though they may be in buildings 14, 18 and 27). There are some rooms which are very close to the pool though, and some which give oblique views of the river, so it never hurts to ask.

The AB buildings are so small that all rooms are close to stairs, none are more than about three doors walk away in fact. See my floorplan maps for details or room locations and categories: www.portorleans.org/floorplans.php.

Adults are not permitted to accompany children on the Pirate Cruises, strictly a kids-only adventure!

Our son and his children have a preferred room booked with a bounceback discount but we have been unable to book another discounted preferred room for DH and I. We booked a discounted king room instead, hoping that we could get a connecting rooms. How likely is it that we could get a connecting room in the preferred section if we have a king room rather than a preferred room booked?

As long as they have one available, you should be fine, as there are a number of King Bed category rooms in buildings 14, 15, 18 and 27 (which is also where the Preferred Location rooms are located). Make sure the two bookings are linked on the system in advance, and also put in a request for CONNECTING rooms (not just adjoining), there are at least 10 King Bed rooms which connect in those four buildings. See my building layout maps in www.portorleans.org/floorplans.php for more details.

Thank you

We just got back from a stay in a Royal Room. We were in Oak Manor and honestly, it was about the same distance to the East or South depots- not terribly far either way. We absolutely never came even close to not getting on a bus in the morning. It simply wasn't an issue. A couple times were were the only people on a bus. My teen liked to stash a refillable mug in the stroller and grab a refill on the way back from the bus.

You are correct, Royal rooms do NOT have a murphy bed. They are gorgeous, though and my 5 year old was in heaven. I am sure Alligator Bayou is nice too, so if location is that important, you might be happier switching.

Does anyone know what the doors to the rooms are made out of? Would something magnetic stick or is it best to bring some tape to lightly hang something?

If you are ever going to tape things to as hotel wall or door, use painters tape. Other adhesives may do damage which they will bill you for at a high rate.

Question....While I won't be travelling for awhile....Me, wife and 4 year old daughter have decided on POR Royal suite. Any ideas on which room type (standard, garden, river or pool view) is the 'best' as in closest to buses and/or ease of transportation? Would it be advantageous to rent a car? I've checked the por maps however am unable to tell which would be pool or garden as opposed to standard or river etc. Just looking for some insight from anyone that may have stayed at one of the royal rooms.

Thanks in advance

Did you check the map here?:

Just click on the red buildings (which are where the royal rooms are located) and you'll see what category each room is.
