Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Ya, the white does look so much better. CSR was like that last year when we went.

It's kind of an industry practice now...much easier to launder sheets and blankets. Too many incidents (not necessarily at Dis resorts) where people brought black lights from home and some pretty nasty "spots" were revealed.

I wish thought that they did supply more blankets for the rooms, though.

Agreed. But if you call housekeeping they will bring you as many extras as you want.

Our flight lands at 10:30 PM and we are taking ME, so probably will not be at the resort until at least 11:30 or midnight. Are there any good options that late, even grab and go?

Grab'n'Go, the Bakery and Pizza are available until midnight, but nothing at all after then I'm afraid. Don't forget you will be bringing your luggage with you on the coach (no automatic transfers that late) so allow time for collecting bags from the carousel too.

How long does the boat to DS take? And what do you think is the quickest way to go from POFQ to BC? Through DS? We don't want to walk all the way from the Epcot, but HS and the boat to BC also take quite awhile. We don't want to drive because we are heading to MK for MSEP and Wishes after dinner. I think we will drive to Poly since we won't be going in the parks afterwards that evening.

The boat from FQ to Disney Springs takes about 15 mins.

If you are doing BC and then MK, I'd just drive to be honest. Even if you drove back to POFQ and then got the next bus from there to the MK if you don't want to have to park at the TTC. Or get the bus from BC to MK after your meal, and then back again later to pick your car.

Just so you don't have to go to bed hungry, get something to eat at the airport before heading to the ME, because there is nothing open at the resort after midnight.

But since we don't want to drive, would DS or going to HS and the boat or another park and bus be quicker?

I assume that's because you plan to have a drink with your meal? Otherwise, driving would be your easiest option.

The best route via Disney transportation (or at least the route with least walking) would probably be to go to Studios first and then get a Friendship boat - but if the Epcot bus happens to arrive first you might prefer to just get on it and then stroll through Epcot. There won't be much in it time-wise, it would all depend on how quickly the buses and/or boat happen to turn up.

In my experience, no matter what resort you are staying in, it is never quicker to go anywhere using Disney Springs as your transportation hub. You can get to your destination just fine, but transportation to and from Disney Springs seems to always be the slowest of any transportation option - most of the time spent is spent waiting, not riding. The time on the bus or boat is usually around 15 minutes - it's the waiting that takes forever. If I had an ADR I was trying to get to, I would not want to go through DS to get there unless I had a couple hours to spend getting to my final destination.

If time is of the essence, and you don't want to drive yourself, you might consider a taxi or Uber from POFQ directly to BC. It's not complimentary like the Disney transportation, but you will have more control over your wait time, and you won't be doing a lot of walking. Then you can just proceed from BC to MK after dinner on Disney transportation. Otherwise, you really are better off taking a bus from POFQ to either DHS or Epcot and going to BC from there.

Just to let you know, the French Quarter children's splash play area has been slightly delayed again. It was going to open on 29 Feb, but I've just had an email saying it's now looking more like 6 March. These from a few minutes ago:

I have not read any adverse comments about FQ. However, my daughter and son-in-law stayed there (loved the resort and surroundings), but said it was quite a walk from their room to the food court. I know there are no preferred rooms, but I would love to know just how long the walk would be if we happened to get one of the further room locations.

Given that French Quarter is the smallest of any of the Value or Moderate resorts at Walt Disney World, I'm glad they didn't stay at one of the larger resorts! :) The furthest walk from anywhere at FQ to the food court is about 350 yards, or about a four minute walk, but most rooms are closer than that.

I think that it probably depends on why you are going to the food court. For people who use the refillable mugs on a frequent basis, it's probably better to request one of the buildings right next to the lobby building. However, I was in building 7, which is probably the farthest building, and I was on the far side of that building, and I would be surprised if my walk was as long as four minutes (and I'm more of a stroller than a speed walker). It really is a small resort. But I can see where if you were using the mugs a lot, you might want to be really close.

Do we know the age limit/height limit for the new water splash area? Wondering if my 9 year old will be too old and my 6 year old will be too tall? TIA!

Another question I have about POFQ. It will be my DD 6, DS 9 and myself. This will be our first trip without another adult with us. I will have my car and do a mix of car/buses. We will have a standard room. Would love suggestions for buildings to request. Seeing that there are elevators is a plus! We have stayed twice at POR in AB and the 2nd floor was tough, packing and unpacking on my own with 2 small children (my 60+ year old aunt was with me). I am thinking building 4, 5 and 6 would be good central locations to pool/food court/bus stop and close to walk to POR - my kids love the pool there. I am not worried about foot traffic or proximity to DS. Thanks so much for your input!

We stayed in a standard room in building 4 back in December. It was super close to the bus stop and food court! The pool was not a long walk at all either, since its such a small resort. This was the best room location I have ever had at any resort. Loved getting off the bus, grabbing a snack at the food court, and heading right back to the room!
