Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Yes to all of the above. You should be able to get to DTD for 9-9:30 or so for a meal. Packages can be sent from the hotel store or front desk. Don't know about almond milk at the shop though, it's only a hotel store so it carries common essentials but is not a full supermarket.

Andre

Thanks. Maybe the food court has milk/almond milk to buy? Like a refrigerated case with items? Just trying to think what I can bring for breakfast in the room.

I can't take much more of this winter in Buffalo, NY.. Saturday will mark our 6 month count down to our Disney/Universal vacation and it surely can't come soon enough!! Trying to think warm thoughts!!

Leaving for WDW in one week, but I'm already on here looking to plan my fall trip!! We travel with another couple each fall, and we hope to be heading back to French Quarter. Love this resort! Next weeks trip we are staying at CBR and I'm dreading the 7 bus stops. FQ definitely has me a bit spoiled.

Now that we finally booked our flight for June, the trip seems more real. :goodvibes We arrive at MCO at 6:18pm. By the time we get to POFQ and check in do you think there is still time to head over to DTD for an Earl of Sandwich dinner? We are taking ME if that matters.

And last, is there some sort of store at the resort to pick up odds and ends? Almond milk, Advil, saline solution, etc? Or are we pretty much cut off from civilization? ;)

Our flight has been changed and we now get in at 6 pm. This is not unusual for international flights and we still have to clear immigration & Customs at MCO which can take a considerable length of time if the queues are backed up. We always go to DTD for dinner on our first night, as long as we are able to get on the boat by 9 pm latest. Only twice did we not make it, but both times were due to delays cause by tropical storms and a bird strike on the runway once :rotfl:

You are not at all cut off from civilization and will be able to get basic supplies at the store. Not sure about almond milk though. They do cater for allergies so you will be able to get soy products there but you might be better ordering it to be delivered if you don't have a car to save you the trouble. Maybe someone can check and see what is in the store - I know they had a modest range that covered the basic over the counter and first aid type meds because I got terribly sick last visit and managed to get whatever I needed at Jackson Square gift shop. If you have particular brands you prefer, you will need to check though. Can you not bring your own, or are you only traveling with carry-on? I put my saline and contact solutions and things into my checked bag and get travel bottles that are within the liquid limit from my optician.

Did you all see that there are beignets at Les Halles (France, Epcot) now? They aren't the same shape (not like little "pillows") and they have granulated sugar instead of powdered. I think I read this on the Disney Food Blog yesterday.

The marketplace dock is closing for construction but the pleasure island dock is staying open all through construction.

Do you have any idea how long the marketplace dock will be closed for? We are staying at POFQ in May. Thanks :thumbsup2

We were lucky to get a 5 hour flight. You'd think we were coming around the world instead of across the country. Most flights from San Francisco involved one or two stops and travel times from 7-12 hours!
Anyway, we will be bringing our own contact supplies, but just trying to get a feel for what types of things they have in case we forget something or our luggage is lost.

From 22 Feb until sometime in the fall. In the meantime, the POR/POFQ boats will still run as normal but they will use the Pleasure Island dock in the centre of Downtown Disney.

Routes will be as follows:

• Port Orleans River Cruise – Yellow Route
Service between Downtown Disney Pleasure Island and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort

• Disney Vacation Club Ferry – Blue Route
Service between Downtown Disney West Side and Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Resort & Spa and Treehouse Villas

• Internal Downtown Disney Water Taxi – Red Route
Service between Downtown Disney West Side and Pleasure Island only

I'm so glad you posted a reply on this page as I somehow missed all the other comments previously about this. Had no idea the Marketplace Dock would be closed - useful information considering we are heading to DTD for dinner and to collect PP+ card and a gift card on arrival night. :scared:

Absolutely, and it's good that you are planning ahead :thumbsup2 About 6 years ago I realized as we were about to brush our teeth that I had left the toothpaste behind to I dragged my sleepy 6 year old, both of us in our PJ's to the resort shop to get some. We must have looked quite a sight, but everyone was so nice and pretended not to notice :lmao:

Ha ha, I'd trade you that 5 hour flights. We have a connection and I thought I booked so cleverly, but and cancelation and re-book and 3 schedule changes later what should have been a 12 hour transit (it's not as bad as it sounds) has turned into nearly 18 hours which is slightly less appealing!

Andre, sorry, one more question. Is the schedule staying the same with the dock change? Last boat used to be around 11 pm (maybe 11.30, I forget). Will this remain the same?

As far as I know, yes. Just the dock changes.

We'll be staying at POFQ for the first time in May! POR was booked so we thought we'd try FQ. We've been to POR 4 times (first time being DL) and excited for a little change, but also that we'll be close to POR, too. Can't wait!

I don't think I've seen this answered yet - apologies if it has been.

There is a refrigerated case in the food court that includes small/individual containers of milk. I know there is a low fat milk with Mickey on the carton, and I think a Borden's carton of whole milk (?). I don't recall seeing anything like almond milk, but I wasn't looking for that. I had the Mickey Milk with my beignets for breakfast a couple of days.

That's great, thanks Andre! Wouldn't have even known about the dock change if it wasn't for this thread! :thumbsup2

We are staying at POFQ for the first time in May. I am trying to plan out our itinerary & I have some questions. I'd really appreciate some dis'er help! :)

We are planning one day at Blizzard Beach. Is there a direct bus to/from the resort to the water park? I think I read somewhere that the return bus takes you to Downtown Disney… is that true?

The bus question will help me to decide where & when to make dinner reservations that evening.

Thanks! :)

I'm no expert, as I haven't yet stayed at POFQ, but having stayed at other resorts I know the water park buses generally travel from resort to DTD, stopping at a waterpark on the way.

I'm sure other posters will have more accurate knowledge than myself though :)

The Blizzard Beach bus often does an AK stop too, but it seems to depend on the season, time of day, crowd levels, etc. Be aware that all the waterpark buses (in our experience) from POFQ do a full POR bus stop loop first before proceeding to the parks, and they will drop off at POR first on the way back.

We've done DTD table service reservations after a waterpark day from both water parks and always find it easier to just go back to POFQ and drop off our stuff, shower /get changed and then take the much quicker boat, if it'd DTD we're wanting to go to.

Thanks 2Tiggies, that helps a lot! I was considering DTD table service, so your experience really helps. I was considering bringing a change of clothes to the water park… but your suggestion sounds better.

Thanks!

Blizzard Beach is usually an en-route stop made by the Animal Kingdom buses. In the same way as Typhoon Lagoon buses share a service with Downtown Disney.

I should have asked this as soon as I got back, but maybe someone here knows...

On Friday, 2/7, I was part of a pretty big bunch of people at the POFQ bus stop waiting for a bus to MK. I'm thinking this was 8 am-ish, maybe a little after? It was raining. There was an Epcot bus at the "A" bus stop, not moving. A MK bus ended up behind it but couldn't move/come around/whatever to pick us up. I think there was a DHS bus that also got "stuck" behind the non-moving Epcot bus (no idea what the problem was). We were kind of a wet cranky mess of people trying to make MK rope drop stuck at bus stop "B." The CM working the bus stop suggested that anyone with a car might want to make use of it. I know at least one rather large party got out of the line to do that.

Someone suggested walking to Riverside to catch a bus there, and several parties (myself included) opted for that. I had a nice stroll along the river in the rain to Riverside, had to ask directions to the main bus stop, waited there with another big bunch for a bus to MK, which seemed to take a while. I think I finally got to MK around 9:30.

NOW, the question! Any chance anyone knows what time the MK bus finally was able to pick up at POFQ? Everything worked out all right, but I wonder if I would have been better off waiting for the bus situation to resolve itself at POFQ rather than going to Riverside.

FWIW, this was the ONLY negative issue I had with the buses at POFQ, and could have happened anywhere.
