Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

I have never stayed at POR French Quarter so please excuse my question. I know at some moderates like CBR and Cornado Springs, they have multiple bus stops all over there resorts. Does POR French Quarter have that too? From what I was reading it seems that they have there own bus system as opposed to POR Riverside which makes multiple stops all over there resort. Any help is appreciated.

FYI, you're kind of mashing up the names of the resorts - the resorts are called Port Orleans French Quarter (POFQ) and Port Orleans Riverside (POR). POFQ has a single bus stop, but does sometimes share with POR. You can read all about the how the buses work at the two resorts here:

Ok thanks and sorry the mess I created. Now I understand the bus system a little better. After leaving POFQ they still go to POR to pick the resort guests up. I was under the impression that wasn't the case. I wonder if this is a hassle for guests? Just like to ask that.

They don't always go to POR. Depends on the season and the crowd levels. We stayed at POFQ last October and, I think, we hit POR once on our bus use.

It also depends on the destination. The Magic Kingdom buses never share for example, with each resort having its own direct bus service. The other parks mostly do share, but as has been said it also depends on the time of day and other variable factors.

Mostly, POFQ is the first pickup point though - so at least the bus won't be too crowded, and even if it does take a little longer due to the POR pickups you'll probably have a seat.

I am wondering about the boat to DTD. Since it comes from POR, do you ever have to wait for multiple boats in order to get a seat? I would imagine POR could fill a boat all by itself!:boat:

This is a silly question, but how do you order/get a cup of ice water with your meal at the food court? I don't want a bottle of water - I don't like the "mineral-y" taste of Dasani - and I'm not getting a refillable mug. Just want a paper cup of ice water to go with my breakfast.

are there any rumors of Bonfamille's ever returning - we miss it so much :(

Nothing immediate, but I do know that they are currently looking into doing something new with that space, as the test kitchen which they ran from there now has a new off-site home. Whether it will ever revert to a restaurant, or have some other function (or even remain empty for a while) I don't know though.

Generally they leave a few places empty at POR to allow for picking up guests at POFQ. It's up to the skipper how many seats he feels he needs to reserve.

Just ask at the registers for a cup, and then you can fill it at the drinks station (it's free, as the water and ice dispensers do not require RFID chipped cups).

I was curious to know what is the best building to stay in? I love great scenery and happen to love flowers, so I was wondering if the garden view is a really nice spot. Some a small video of it on you tube, but I think there was a tree up near the room. Just wondering.

I know pofq doesn't normally get included in free dining promo, but does it get included in other promos? We are looking at a weekend trip in sept/October and would love to stay here.

Hey everyone....staying at French Quarter Sep. 6-13th....really excited to be going back!

Quick question...I requested to be on building 4 on the first floor. I booked a standard roomm. When I put in the request to the CM, they said that first floor in building 4 is not preferred so that's why I requested the first floor. Is this true?

If so and I do get first floor, will it be as far away from the food court as possible because I did book a standard room?

Please let me know of any tips or advice that you know. Maybe I should send a fax a few days before our trip for our request? Tell them we have a toddler?

There is no preferred room category at POFQ due to its compact size. There really isn't a single room at POFQ that is a long walk to anything.

Here are the room categories and a brief description of them from page 1 of this thread.

  • Standard View rooms almost all face the parking lots, while Garden View guarantees that you wont be looking out over a parking lot and you should get a more pleasant view of gardens, courtyards, fountains, etc.
  • Pool View gives you an upper floor room overlooking the main swimming pool, while River View will be overlooking the Sassagoula River.
  • King Bed rooms contain just one King-size bed instead of two queens and can be located anywhere in the resort. Some have Pool or River views, but they still need to be booked using the King Bed category.
  • Disability Accessible rooms can also be booked, mostly featuring two queen beds although a few King Bed options are available. Some have roll-in showers while others feature bathtubs with easy wheelchair access.

Many of the ground floor Standard View rooms in building 4 are just a few yards from the food court, see the maps on my website http://www.portorleans.org/floorplans.php. As has been said, there are no Preferred Location rooms at POFQ, and no real need for them either.

I've now created a permanent page on the website to provide more details and photos of the new Resort-Specific Merchandise available at Port Orleans - www.portorleans.org/merchandise.php. I've included photos of the fine-art masks and related items that have been on sale specifically at POFQ recently. Please let me know if you spot anything that I haven't covered!

Yes, it does. I was able to book a discounted room there for a trip later this month. They just tend to be few and far between, and sometimes not as much of a discount as POR.

When I stayed at POFQ exactly 1 year ago, it was included in the free dining promo. The pool was closed at the time (although it was really too chilly to enjoy it anyway) so maybe that's why? This time around, we were able to use our come-back code for POFQ to save quite a bit.
