Just a reminder,if not given a Room location to your liking on arrival,it is completely acceptable to ask the Front Desk if they would mind checking to see if a desirable room might be coming available later in the day(or even the next day if you don't mind "moving').

We have done this many times with about an 80 % success rate.

Room prices have gotten so high,we try everything possible to get a location we like. :)

We did this the trip before last when they stuck us in the 90s building. I called as soon as I got the room ready text and they were able to move us to the 70s building by the lake. This past trip we were in the 60s (standard room) and it was fantastic. We even had connecting rooms with my parents, which we didn't request but came in handy sometimes.

It’s funny how people perceive things differently. I almost always request the 80’s and have been in building 7 three times, once on the fourth floor in the last room toward the parking lot, and I love being in that area. So many people love the 50’s section and I didn’t like that nearly as much as the 80’s. It actually feels like the food court and buses are closer to the 80’s to me. I have stayed in the 60’s once, and it was a lot busier and noisier than the 80’s. There really is something for everyone. :flower1:

I can understand not liking a particular resort, especially if you are used to one type of resort and then try something different. I am not particularly fond of AKL, which surprises a lot of people. I used to primarily stay deluxe, but dialed it back for a couple years to build the bank account back up after buying a car. Now that I can stay deluxe again, I am really having a hard time justifying the extra cost. I almost feel like I would need to spend all my time at the resort and not go to the parks at all. I dipped my toe in the water with a stay in August at my favorite mod POFQ, and the whole time I was comparing it to Pop, and Pop was winning. I am sure the fact that my trips are primarily solo plays a big factor, since I can leave the Murphy bed up and have the extra space. The only deluxe that is really tempting me is WL, where I have spent some short, non park, trips. But, my next two trips are already booked at Pop.
We like to spend time out at the pool so that’s why I like the 50’s section. The last thing I want to look at while enjoying the pool is a giant computer and phones everywhere.

So I'm old and not as tech savvy as I'd like to be. How do you use an emailed gift card? Thanks for explaining that to me. Show the server at the restaurant your phone?

Yes, just load the gift card bar code on your phone email, show it to the server or cashier in the restaurant and store, and they will scan it and immediately take the right amount off and give you a receipt of how much you have left on the gift card.

Just got back from my WDW trip a couple of weeks ago. I was at Pop for 16 nights total. Some random thoughts:
1. I requested 60s (preferred room) and got 70s. That's never happened before, and I've been staying at Pop for like 8 years. Went to the front desk, waiting 20 minutes in a huge line, and received a 60s room on the ground floor, just what I wanted. This year, the front desk is combined into one huge line. They used to have 2 different lines for "check in" and "concierge service."
2. We also stayed at AKL and POR (royal room) on this trip. Their TVs were about a quarter the size of the TV at Pop! And the TV at AKL had the wrong aspect ratio (people look stretched wide), and I couldn't fix it. And they had almost no usb ports or even just regular plugins. It made us appreciate Pop's numerous usb ports and power plugins.
3. We also stayed at Boardwalk Inn. Gorgeous hotel, loved it except for one thing: no food court. So we sat outside at noon on these really weird chairs and table in the shade to eat pizza bought from this window next to Boardwalk Bakery. The pizza was good, but the day was hot. I think it got up to 95 that day. By the end of the 15 minute lunch, I was panting like a dog and rushing back to the hotel lobby to cool off. It made me appreciate deeply Pop's food court!
4. We also stayed at CBR preferred room in Martinique. From my room I walked quickly to the Skyliner station to time myself (it wasn't open yet.) It took me 11 minutes. Walking from Pop 60s to the Skyliner station takes 3 minutes or less. Gondola to CBR is another 3 minutes, and the line appears to be less than a minute long. So, Pop is still better for taking the Skyliner! There are rooms in CBR that are close to the Skyliner, but those rooms are very far from the food court and pool. When it comes to the Skyliner, Pop/AofA still beats out CBR!
However, I have read reports where people going from Epcot back to Pop, get to CBR and then found that the Pop/CBR line was closed for no reason (and this wasn't posted at Epcot station either), and they had to take a bus. In that case, Pop isn't beating CBR anymore. But if everything works, then Pop is ahead!
Personally, I won't be taking the gondola except for rare occasions of going from Pop to CBR, my two most favorite hotels. I don't have a fear of heights, but the gondola does look creepy going over highways at 60 feet up. The recent Skyliner accident doesn't bother me because it will be a year from now when I go again, so everything will be worked out by then.
5. We also stayed at the Contemporary, theme park view. I didn't book it that way, I booked the outer building but got upgraded by "pixie dust", said the manager. I didn't have the heart to refuse the upgrade, but I knew the elevators will be a problem. Pop has 4 stories and 2 elevators. Contemporary main building has 14 stories and 5 elevators, one of which wasn't working. I timed myself once: it took me 6 minutes to go from my room on the 9th floor to the ground floor. Several elevators were full and I couldn't get in. When I finally got in one by folding my stroller, it stopped at every floor. So yeah, I missed Pop's elevator and stairs, where my kids enjoy running up and down. Contemporary doesn't have stairs.
6. I am not happy with the Skyliner. The recent accident merely confirmed my fears -- I knew that one can be stuck on there for hours. (Though I did not know that one gondola can smash into another). I don't wish to take the gondola, and at the same time, I feel that bus frequency will be reduced for Epcot and HS, if not now, in the near future. And whenever the Skyliner is down, there will be a surge of people taking the bus and crowding it. Also, Pop's prices are definitely climbing up fast compared to All Stars. For me, this is paying more for less.
I remember reading your trip report. Didn’t you also stay at the Grand Floridian and the Poly as well? I’d be happy at Pop for 16 days, but I wouldn’t enjoy changing hotel rooms everyday for a week. Did you enjoy all that moving around? I’d be exhausted just visiting that many hotels. Lol.

What did you like about your stay? Are you ever going back since it was so awful?

Just back from a trip that included a couple of nights at Pop. We liked it. We were in the 80s, and thought the walks to the Skyliner and the buses weren't bad at all (we moved from Pop to the Swan on the morning of Saturday 10/5, so our timing was excellent with regard to the Skyliner).

I would stay there again, but I think I would request a room that doesn't have a connecting door. The family next door was really loud, with a small child yelling and either jumping from the bed to the floor or doing something else that resulted in a loud thump, over and over and over. I could hear everything through the connecting door. Finally, after listening to yelling and thumping for quite awhile, I did something I've never done before. At 10:45 p.m. I got up, knocked on their outside door, and told them that I was next door and could hear everything through the connecting door. The father seemed really sorry and it worked--things got quiet really fast and I could finally sleep. And we heard nothing from that room the next day or evening. (I understand Disney is a family vacation destination and kids get excited. But it seemed to me that after it going on for awhile, and with it closing in on 11 o'clock at night, it wasn't unreasonable to ask them to keep it down.)

By the way, if you're thinking of checking your luggage at Pop's Bell Services anytime near the 11 o'clock checkout time, be aware that the line can be immense. On Saturday morning, it stretched around the corner and down the side of the building quite a long way. We ended up grabbing a Lyft to take our bags directly to the Swan ourselves.

5. . . Contemporary doesn't have stairs.

FYI - they do. My mom was claustrophobic and would not ride elevators. There is an alcove in the elevator area with the vending machines. At the back is the door labeled Stairs. We would request the lowest tower floor, and she would use the stairs to and from the fourth floor, where she could then use the escalators and open stairs to access the lower levels. There are also stairs on the ends of the building, which you had to use your key to access at ground level last time I stayed there. They are outdoors though, so we were more familiar with the indoor stairs.

Not gonna lie. Those TVs are one reason we chose Pop. We have football to watch one night!
No doubt about that!!!!

When watching our games at the All-Star Resort after watching games on the POP TVs it is really a LET DOWN!lol

But Movies now has the 55s and Music and Sports will eventually.

I didn't mean that the Contemp don't have any stairs. Just not like Pop where it is ready and open, right next to the elevator. In fact, DS13 told me that he went down the stairs somehow, they were full of garbage, and he ended up in some docking area or something? I have never seen the stairs at the Contemp or the Grand Floridian Sugarloaf building, but I'm sure they are somewhere.

It was fun going to a new hotel and new pool every day. Gave us something to look forward to, since we didn't have park tickets for those days.
