I am contemplating a 1 night stay at POP pre cruise..we would only be doing Epcot that day. Can someone tell me a little info about the bus system? Is there only one stop? Far walk from 'preferred room'? How many resorts does the bus pick up before arriving at Epcot?

Thanks in advance!!

One bus stop in front of the resort and Pop buses will pick you up and take you right to the park. :thumbsup2I would just choose a standard room and request "close to transportation."

Hi, Everyone! Just wanted to share that for "free" dining in August my DD and I got Pop booked now! We originally had a room only reservation, then when free dining came out, our room type wasn't available. So we got All Star Sports booked instead. I checked yesterday, and if we dropped the last night we could get our room type at Pop (it's a roll in shower room). So instead of 9 nights we'll do 8 nights, which is fine for us really!

We had a great trip last August with free dining, and really liked the QSDP. We upgraded to AP's that trip, and our passes are good until the last 2 days of this trip (so we'll do pool time, mini golf, and Disney Springs then). We got 2 day park hoppers that we'll save for next trip.

The airfare is lower than I've seen in years too! BWI - MCO on Southwest for $69 each way. Nuts!

I have a question.. We are doing a last minute extremely short trip over to Disney in June. We are two adults and two children (2yo and 1 yo) before our third comes in September. Ive never stayed at Pop before and have been trying to read the 191 pages. Our plan is to relax by pool on the first day and then Disney Springs in the evening and the next day Magic Kingdom. What requests would you put in? There are way more requests then I feel other resorts. We booked a standard view room and I don't really know what to click.

There are all the different levels, lake view, landscape view, near elevator, near transportation, and then each section... I was thinking near transportation? What would you pick? I know this is a personal preference to some but I will gladly take opinions. We are okay with walking over to the pool on the first day and am thinking in the am on MK it might be nice to be a little closer to transportation? I'm starting to think my pregnancy brain is making me over think this a little.:crazy:
We have stayed in the 50s, 90s and 70s sections so far. For standard rooms, the 70s section was the most convienent of the 3. Close to the pool and Classic Hall. We checked into POP on Tuesday night and had a ground floor lake view room and the view of hourglass lake was so nice! I used the touring plan room finder to see what the view from each view was like before submitting my request through their room reservation fax service. I am impressed because we got the exact room I requested!

Idon't know if you booked airfare already.. but just FYI, you can keep trying to book a room only for that last night. when you bookk it, you can ask to link it to your free dining reservation ie make it a continuoos reservation. and you might not have to change rooms. we always got lucky that way.
also you dining credit are good untio midnight of checkout day. so , since there is SO much food, youcould save a couple credits for the last day. then youwould only have to payout of pocket for breakfast on your actual check out day.

Great idea!

Is it worth the extra money for a preferred room at POP? What's the difference between preferred and standard?

In my experience, it depends on the time of year you're going.

Last late August, DD and I booked a standard room. Even though it was during free dining, we were actually put in what I found out after getting home was a preferred room. It was in the 70's section I think, but not facing the pool (glad as that can be noisy). It was a pretty quick trip to the food court, which I liked since we often took food back to the room (food court is a bit noisy and hectic during busy times).

Spring (Easter) break, we had 2 nights in a standard room - I think it was the 80's but maybe 90's - about as far from the food court as possible. The room could have used a little TLC too, but it was just 2 nights so fine. The food court was a madhouse. We got dinner there once and it took over 30 minutes just to get our food. Not great but it didn't kill us or anything! There were tons of baseball teams there. Nice kids, just LOTS of them!

For our next trip, we're booked 8 nights in a standard room again late August, and getting free QSDP again. That time of the year, I don't see any issues with getting a standard room. Odds are, even with free dining, the resort won't be so packed like spring break is. Yes, it's busy but not terrible.

I think preferred will be closer to the food court. If that is a priority, and especially if you're going during a busy time, it may be worth the roughly $10 a night extra. It's nice to take a tray back to the room and eat quietly at the table in the room to me.

Maybe someone else can post the link to the resort map showing the locations of preferred rooms? I know it's floating around here somewhere.

Wow, thanks for your insight. I'd love to see a map if there is one floating around. I am going in late October. When I first booked, preferred was the only thing available so I took that, but now standard is available so I'm trying to decide if preferred is worth the extra money.

The only difference between preferred and standard rooms is the location. Preferred rooms are closer to the food court, bus stops, and/or a pool. There is a link to a map showing the room categories near the bottom of the 2nd post of this thread. We've had some really good standard room locations (lake view room in bldg. 4 of the 60's section and courtyard view in bldg. 9 if the 80's section) but we've also had one that was much further away from the food court and bus stops than we wanted to be (bldg. 2 of the 50's section). I should have asked for a different location when we checked in, but didn't think it would be too far of a walk when I saw it on the map. We were able to park right next to the building so that was a bonus for when we had to unload and load the car...but that was the only good thing about that location for us. If we would drive our car to the parks every day, we would have loved that location. If we ever stay at Pop again, I would probably spend the money for a preferred room location -- it's worth the extra few $$ a night for us to be guaranteed a room that's close to the food court and bus stop. However, if a preferred room isn't in your budget, it's really not more than a 5-7 minute walk to the food court/bus stops from any of the standard rooms.

Thanks bluezy! We are downgrading from a moderate to try and save some money on this trip, but it may be worth the small extra amount for a preferred room. We won't have a car and it'll only be 2 adults, but we'd like to be close to the lobby and bus stop.

For us, paying the extra for preferred is not worth it. We have stayed in 2 of the furthest buildings and the walk wasn't bad at all for us. Even the kids did not complain. Also, there are some really nice standard rooms that give you a beautiful view of the lake when you step out of your room and are very close to the pool, Classic Hall etc. Tip: The maps don't show this but there are many outdoor corridors through the various buildings that can cut down your walk time. You don't have to use the main paths shown on the resort map.

I am arriving at POP Century in just 6 days :flower1: and have an ECV reserved because of a recent knee and ankle injury. I have posted some on the Disabilities Board but was wanting some POP specific advice about using the resort buses. ECV users wait in the regular line to board the buses, correct? Any advice for ECV users at POP would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
