Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

We got back last week and had the same issue with the alarm clock. Houskeeping told me that they had pulled a bunch of them to replace them but that the replacements had not been installed yet.

We were there last week and had alarm clocks in building 6. In fact, my parents had a whacky one that kept going off and my mom went down to the front desk and they brought her a replacement.

We just got back from POP a couple of days ago...cried when I got there and cried when we left, I love this resort SO much!
We had a standard room thru runDisney. I requested highest floor and close to transportation. We ended up in the 80's section, Building 9, Room 9430 and we LOVED it! We usually stay in the 60's section but this building in the 80's is now our favorite. It was really close to the buses and main hall. If we wanted to go to the dining hall, we cut thru the parking lot to where the buses would pick you up and just cut thru the store to get to the food. It was not much of a walk at all! Our room was also close to the computer pool. We can't wait to go back in 16 months and 7 days (but who's counting!!!!)

It's feeling real... 71 days until my twin five year olds, our au pair, my sister, and I check in to Pop Century! I've been planning for a year or so, but now things are really starting to come together. We have three preferred rooms booked (as I feel all the adults will be more likely to still be friends at the end of our stay if we can go to separate rooms at night) and check in on January 23! Four of us will be there 8 nights, my sister only three nights.

When I made the reservation, the CM on the phone said he requested connecting rooms, but that's actually not a very big deal in our case. Somewhere near each other would be nice, but we don't need the rooms to be connecting. I guess I could call to have that request taken off and my "real" requests added - ground floor if possible (so no one under us wonders when a herd of thundering elephants checked in, and for ease of bringing potentially sleeping small children in at the end of the day) and if possible *not* a pool view? I see a few "regular" preferred rooms with a view of the kiddie pool. It's going to be January, and I realize the pools will be heated, but I don't know that I want to drag kids past the pool all the time when we have places to be? While they probably won't mind the cold air, I sure will! I realize it's their vacation too, but we're going to celebrate MY milestone birthday, so I don't want to miss our meals and other things I scheduled 180 days in advance!

I'd rather be near food and transportation. We'll schedule in some swim time (depending on the weather), we just can't go there every time we walk by! Luckily it looks like the pool doesn't open until 9 so we can get to the parks in the morning without incident.

Finally, I saw on Disney's website that they provide lifejackets. If we were to bring our own "puddle jumper" lifejackets with us, would we be allowed to use them?

Quick question. We are leaving this afternoon and I just got a text saying our room is ready. Woo hoo!! Since I did online check in does this mean we can go straight to the room, or do we still need to stop at front desk?

Never mind, I got an email that said we can go straight to the room! Yay can't wait to get there!

Yes you can definitely use your own life jackets
We love the 70's preferred rooms! They are very close to Classic Hall/transportation and the 70's section has no pool.
We also love the 50's preferred rooms but the smoking section sits right in between buildings 1 & 3 and if you have any intolerance to smoke, that may give you some problems. If you or anyone in your party needs to be close to the smoking section, then the 50's preferred would be perfect! The bowling pin pool is further back in that section and you wouldn't have to pass the pool at all.

No clocks? I'm old school and still use the alarms to wake up so this is good to know.

We just got home a couple days ago....we were in building 4, and there was a clock in our room.

Yes, we did! Requested a king room highest floor 50's and we are in a king on 3rd floor in bldg. 3. The straight to room text message worked out great, no issues whatsoever! Looking forward to a great stay!

Unless there is a rule at Pop that I'm not aware of (because this upcoming stay will be our first there) they supply them for those that want to use them but don't require kids to use them. However, you may find (as we did back in may) that you like their life vests more than you do your own. Our DD loved the ones down there so much that we went ahead and bought one of the same brand to use at home.

Does Pop Warner really affect the resort? We are going December 2-6 and apparently some of the Pop Warner cheerleaders will be staying at the resort starting December 5. I've read they are staying at the All Stars, Pop, CBR, and CSR. It really only affects us 1 day, but will it be extra noisy or anything? We aren't at the resort all day long, so basically we will be back to sleep. Surely they will be settled by midnight, right?

We are arriving at the Pop on Jan 1 with a room only reservation but will be staying til the 6th. The second part of our stay at the Pop starts on Jan 2 with the stay, play and dine package. I would prefer to just stay in the same room and not have to change rooms on the 2nd. There doesn't seem to be any place to ask for that on the online check in. Do they automatically give you the same room in this type of scenario? I'm thinking it might require a phone call but a little closer to check in. Does anyone have any advice or experience with this?

Ugh! We're at Pop from 12/4-12/8 and I didn't know they would be there Thought they just put them in the All-Stars. Never experienced them myself, but have heard some nasty stories. I'm sure we'll have a great time regardless

There is another thread going about PW at POP. It doesn't sound too bad and only the little PW kids stay at POP. The older ones are at the All Stars.

I've been wondering if they all stay in the same building or if they are scattered all over the resort. I've got a standard room booked(it was all I could get last minute) and am hoping to be no where near them....we will be out late at night and sleeping in a little in the morning. I don't want to be woken up at 6am or even 8am for that matter. Anyway, it is what it is and I'm going prepared.

Several threads have mentioned that the PW kids are normally assigned in the 80's/90's section (this of course could change). The other group that is horrible to experience are "The Fifteens". Hundreds of girls that come to Disney for 2-3 weeks at a time to celebrate their Quinceaneras. They not only take over the resorts but they also take over the parks in droves. They are rude and obnoxious. They start coming toward the end of January and all through February.

We experienced PW during a trip in December 2006. While they weren't staying at our resort, (POFQ) some of them were staying at POR and there was a couple of times the resorts shared buses. Once we got under way, they would start a cheer at the top of their lungs that continued all the way to the park. My ears were ringing! There were a few little ones on the bus that were covering their ears and crying. I couldn't help thinking that if any child was on the autism spectrum, that environment would probably be toxic to them. The bus driver didn't say a thing about it and their so-called chaperones did nothing either. As a matter of fact, one time the adult with them actually started it. UGH! We also encountered large groups of them at Downtown Disney who were acting equally obnoxious. Hopefully they're not all like that, but the groups we encountered certainly lived up to their bad reputation.

We leave in 13 days and staying at POP for the first time! This thread has been very helpful! Thanks to everyone. It's a first for everyone in our group to see the Christmas lights and decorations. Can't wait!
