I booked my family's next vacation today and I'm super excited. We have chosen to stay at POP this time around and I have a lot of reading to do before I ask any questions... seeing that I'm sure most of them will be answered in this novel-like thread!

Read the first couple of pages that's where all the Information is, after that it's mostly questions and answers. I think I read the info posts then I jumped to the last 4 pages and started from there when I joined. You can also do a thread search to see if your particular question has been answered recently.

Hi all! I've been reading this thread some and recently booked my first stay at Pop for January 16-20. When I called, they only had preferred rooms available for my dates. I wanted a standard but it was either a preferred room at Movies or Pop, so I went with preferred at Pop. The only room request I made was for a top floor. I am wondering what section I should request when I do online check-in. I want to be in a quiet area and don't want to have to walk through the smoking area (I saw that mentioned here). Any suggestions? If I really want the top floor, should I even make any other requests? I saw that the 70's might be good for quiet since there is no pool? I have also seen that there is a good chance there will be tour groups there during our visit. We have been twice in July and know what the tour groups are like. This is our first January trip. It will be just me and my DD16.

Preferred rooms are highlighted in yellow. The preferred rooms are going to get you closest to Classic Hall & transportation (the only other closest location would be preferred pool).

erij11: if you don't want to walk thru smoking then do not request 50's. The back side of building 1 would be ok but if you get the front side of building 1 or 3, you can see the smoking area on the map and it is one that is used heavily. We had a hard time walking to our room in building 2 because of so many people smoking there (but we are really sensitive to cigarette smoke). 70's is definitely going to be the quieter era. No pool. The theme is really cute if you are on the inside of building 6 or 10 and the backside of building 10 is really close to Classic Hall.

Wes1stTrip2016: the backside of 60's is standard. If you request 60's it will be facing the kiddie pool or it it will be in the area's that face building 6 or building 3, more of a garden view. The Kiddie pool is definitely not as busy as the Hippy Dippy pool, but it is still a pool. You could request 60's and add a request to your reservation asking "not close to a pool".

Hopefully the map will help decide which is best for your families. The preferred rooms are anything highlighted in yellow.

Pools are heated so they stay busy, BUT normally only the Hippy Dippy. Even the bowling pin pool and the computer pool don't get crowded and the kiddie pool is never loud since it is normally just babies. Just wondering the best way to request that area since there are 3 preferred sections in the 60's . Maybe add to your reservation "room closest to generation gap bridge"??? That would get you down from the kiddie pool but still in that area if there are rooms available. Keep and open mind and remember, these are all just requests. We have never been disappointed in any of our room locations (even though building 2, 7 & 9 are all a pretty long hike to Classic Hall)

The back side ( lake view) of 60s I believe is all standard. The front side of 60s (not facing the pool is the preferred rooms) Hope this helps!

We got our Magic Bands and luggage tags on Monday - 24 days to go!!! We are all ready; things are all bought and paid for, tshirts done, heck I'm even packed about 97% of the way... DH is a procrastinator so he'll be packing as I'm walking out the door

Either way I'm so excited... I cannot wait for Saturday October 24th to get here!

They don't put tour groups in the 70's.
I have over 130 nights at POP and have stayed in every section. I stayed in the 70's section in May and July of this Year. It was very quiet! If you want quiet, I highly recommend the 70's especially if a pool being close by is not important.

Awesome, thank you! The 70's it is. I just hope we get it. I'm sure we will be happy with what we get because we are at Disney after all.

It finally seems like my trip is getting close! Starting tomorrow I can say
"I'm going to Disneyworld this month! " my magicband arrived today and I am definitely ready for this trip!

Yes, ice machines in every building along with vending machines, near the elevators. There are mini-fridges in every room, also.

What should we expect as far as buses in the mornings especially for EMH including 7 AM EMH at MK during Christmas week. Just wondering about frequency of buses and length of lines for those early mornings.

We had decided to drive, but now we are second guessing that decision after reading some threads about issues getting to the MK from the TTC on AM EMH days and reports of late openings of the AK parking lot. We are wondering if it's best to just stick to resort transportation especially for AM EMH's at those two parks.

Any advice or experience is appreciated!

We went to the MK on Christmas Day last year from Pop. Be at the bus stop by 6am. Our bus came at about 6:15am. But the line behind us was crazy long at that point, so not everyone made it on the first bus. There was another bus arriving just as we pulled away though. But you've got to try to stay ahead of the crowds. The MK already had a decent crowd when we arrived at 6:40am. So if you're on the second bus, you're going to be much farther behind once you get to the MK.
