This must have been just a quick touch up. I just checked out on Saturday and was in the lobby both Friday night and Saturday (took pictures in front of the Tiki guy) and no barriers were up then or on Saturday 9/13.

I'm not a Tower hater, overall I think it's a good addition to the resort. But the un-themed very bright generic lights instead of torches to me was an unfortunate choice and adds to the relative lack of visual/aesthetic cohesion of the overall resort. I know, inconsequential Disney fan site level of complaint there, but it does bug me a bit.

The Island Tower is for the most part electric, and as a result there is no Gas service available at Wailulu Bar & Grill features the first all-electric kitchen at WDW and no Gas service on the grounds for lighting.

The tower also utilizes "bright" energy-efficient lighting to further minimize energy usage.
And yes @GADisneyDad14 I think it is also very bright, and quite generic.

IDK why Imagineering didn't create an all electric tiki torch that simulated gas? Seems possible to me.

Not quite the same as a tiki torch, but I live in a historic district, and people have front lamps that mimic gas lamps but are electric. Up close it's obvious it's fake, but from further away it actually looks pretty good.

12 year old LG front loader washer and dryer. Water leak under washer. All hoses dry. Restricted air flow light turned on on the dryer, even after having the ductwork cleaned yesterday. $200 charge to come out and look at them. Never had any repairs before. Repair or replace? Consumer Reports says replace after 8 years. I know I am living on another planet, but I expect lightly used appliances to last longer.

Speaking of the tiki torches, I miss the torch lightning ceremony (and the luau that gave us the lighters) so bad. It was such a special little thing that made the Poly not seem like just another resort.

Very common situation. @SandyinMonterey had your quote in the Quote function for the other forum but did not notice when both quotes appeared here when @SandyinMonterey responded to @VAtink's post about lighting.

I admit it did make me pause since the 2 topics were unrelated.T he Quote tool in the Forum software only has 1 buffer and it is available across all topics on DIS.

Following up:

Polynesian Village Resort Lobby Gets New Signs, Seating Blocked Off​

New signs were installed in the check-in area of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort lobby and half of the lobby’s seating is currently closed.

New Polynesian Check-In Signs​

The new signs hang above each checkout counter and feature the resort’s mascot, Maui, and tropical flowers. The signs previously read “Aloha” or “Guest Services” where appropriate. The new signs are the same size and shape.


It’s possible the decals were just replaced, rather than completely new signs being installed. There have been no signs of construction in the area.



For reference, above is the check-in and guest services area with the new/updated signs. Below is a picture of approximately the same area with the “Aloha” signs.

Polynesian Lobby Seating Closed​

However, all of the lobby seating in front of BouTiki is blocked by stanchions. Although signs state, “Please pardon our Pixie Dust – Work in progress for future enjoyment,” there is currently no active construction. All of the furniture and planters remain in place.



Disney has not announced any work in the Polynesian lobby. The lobby received a soft refurbishment in 2023 when rugs and upholstery were replaced. In early 2024, the stairs received new carpet.



There is ongoing construction outside the Great Ceremonial House as the resort’s driveway entrance is reconfigured. Crews were also recently working on the roof of the Aotearoa building.

I agree with you, I think the torches give the resort the best night time ambiance on property and it was for sure a missed opportunity.

anyone have experience with the duo studios in the tower? my concern is bedding and pillows, it says theyer in the closet but we like to use 2 pillows each so Im hoping theres 4 in the closet? I chatted disney but they have no idea how many pillows are in the room.

I would just call housekeeping and request the amount of things you need.

I stayed in a duo studio back in July and iirc there’s only one extra pillow in the closet pack. tbh I always break those open for the extra blanket and I can’t remember ever seeing more than one pillow in them. You can always call for extra though.

Some recent aerial pics courtesy of user @bioreconstruct on X. The new guest entry access/approach to the porte cochere starting to become more visible, although still a long way to go.

Also you can tell by the colors Tuvalu and Aotearoa both still in need of their roof recoating (part of recent work across the resort). Aotearoa finally appears to have new a section of new roof metal roof structure installed (the metal was damaged by a hurricane last year). Tuvalu also had a smaller section damaged but I can't quite tell from these angles the current status.

thank you, 1...thats what I figured, I understand the rooms are tiny but one pillow for two people? that wont cut it lol.

I stayed in one in April, I was by myself. I typically sleep with 2 pillows, I would have noticed if there’s only 1. Found this picture on WDWNT:

I think the discussion is if there was 1 or 2 additional pillows in the closet beyond the 2 for the bed in the Duo. The 2 for bed are stored in the closest, and not on the bed since it is a Murphy bed.
