While I agree with Pete's synopsis of the movie strategy that Disney may have for Marvel, I think the podcast crew has forgotten about a very important item, that being gaming.

Disney video games up until now have been horrific at best, with a few minor exceptions (Toy Story mania is fun, but gets old really quick). I believe that Disney is noticing that home video game spending overtook home movie spending (DVD/Bluray) for the first time in 2009 and wants a piece of the action. Soemof the best licenced games out there are Spiderman, Xmen, Ultimate Alliance etc.

Just my 2 cents (Canadian).

Very true, but I have a feeling that Disney are going to need to get the right developers and ideas for games, since generally its not the characters that make the game terrible, but the story and actual gameplay.

Exactly true. Hopefully they will keep the current developers that the Marvel games have been made from in the past, and have them do other Disney games.

harder to sell a game based on someone or something unknown than something recognizable. i agree with the assessment that they will start with the core demographic, familiarize them with the product, then, branch out into possibly games and then base the movies on the games. they could also however go with movies and do a simultaneous release of the video games. the trick is to get everyone to drink the cool-aide.

Some Disney games and CDROM were so bad they are legendary. Lion King comes to mind.

With movies Marvel already has plans and contracts set up. There is a much quicker turn around with games.

Also, marvel has a great reputation for games. Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Spiderman, the Hulk, Iron Man all have popular games attached to their franchises that Disney can profit from.

Also, with EA continually having issues, this story keeps popping up. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/08/wild-speculation-disney-to-buy-ea-in-2009/

Most of which are pretty average however!

A leaf needs to be taken out of Batman: Arkham Asylum's book, which was an incredible superhero game :)

That game was spectacular! Can't wait til the next one comes out. However, would disney make "adult" games? I can't see a young kid playing AA...

The whole Marvel games thing though does make me a little annoyed that my attempt to get an internship in the Walt Disney Company games department failed.

Also, don't you have a PS3? Feel free to add to friends :)

Yeah I take your point on AA, but I meant more in general that those kind of games don't have to be dumbed down. From what I've seen of Epic Mickey it actually looks fairly dark, kind of like a Disneyfied version of Fallout 3 (although I seem to be the only person I know who didn't overly enjoy Fallout!!).

I take it you've seen the trailer for the next Batman game, looks pretty good!

Also didn't know you had a ps3, thought you were an Xbox only kinda gal!
Is that your PSN in your siggy? I'll add you next time I get access to the telly :lmao:

I've gotta look Epic Mickey up, sounds good. I'm not sure on Fallout 3, probably because I just haven't yet just sat and played it.

I've had a PS3 for about a year now, but generally am playing the 360 more. I tend to only play the PS3 exclusives plus a couple more, so mainly LittleBigPlanet. Which reminds me, I better download the POTC stuff, I NEED Sack Sparrow!

EDIT: I have seen Epic Mickey before, I just forgotten about it a little. Although the only game I'm actually looking forward to at the moment is Lego Harry Potter, but I love the lego games.

Now I better get back to work, its due in tomorrow! :O

Not played LBP for a while, heard about the POTC stuff so will have to grab that!
I take it you've played Uncharted 2? Incredible game!!

Still on Uncharted, don't want to touch the second til i've finished it, that, and it'll be fairly cheap at work when I do want it :P
