Disney's Pirates Ride: Just Like in the Movies

What is with you people? Disney is doing what Disney has always done! My mom speaks of the magic of watching Walt on TV every week when she was growing up while DL was being built and as WDW was beginning to come together as more than just a real estate transaction. Remember Donald Duck Orange Juice? How about the stickers that were in each loaf of Butternut bread? Those didn't even go with movies. Disney has always promoted itself up one side and down the other. And we drink in the magic because that's what it is. Personally, I cannot wait to see the changes they've made. Are the POTC refurbishments going to keep you from coming to the parks? Of course not and Disney knows this. You will go to the parks. You will ride the rides. And you will eat their food, sleep in their beds, and buy their souvenirs just as you always have because it is MAGICAL! What I know of Walt is that he was such a dynamic and creative person. Why do you think he would frown on Pirates? What greater adventurer is there than a pirate? He made this place for you.

Well then, Walt should have just ate his peanuts in silence. Clearly he got it all wrong.

Of course not. Thats obviously an overexaggeration. I'm juts saying my kids like some stuff (like the Wiggles) then can be boring for adults. That doesn't make them bad. I agree true greatness in this genre is to appeal to both. Walt Disney and Jim Henson (Sesame Street is more enjoyable for an adult then say Blues Clues) are the kings of that.

But I don't think that makes the other kiddie stuff junk.

Being junk and being inappropriate for a Disney themepark are not the same. Or, to say it tanother way, just because something isn't junk, doesn't mean they should build an attraction for it.

I have already gotten on the new POTC ride it has Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbosa! pirate: It is very good and i am going on the ride the next time my family and I go!

I try to do a search and it is fruitless. I don't know how these people keep finding threads that have been inactive for 13 months.:confused3

The WDW version was rushed in on the cheap. WDW was not supposed to have Pirates originally, it was supposed to get the Western River Expedition. When MK opened, people kept asking "Where's that Pirate ride?" So Card Walker rushed it into production. It skips the entire beginning section.

In the DL version, you start out at Lafite's landing in New Orlean's square. You move through the Louisiana Swamp past a resturant at an old plantation house and past shacks in the swamp (this is where Tia Dalma's location comes from) As you move under a bridge, you encounter a Skull and Crossbones that magically speaks warning you to watch yourself as you plunge down a waterfall and into a cavern. As you move through the cavern, A pirate's life for me plays. Then you fall down yet another fall which leads to another cavern. Here you see a beach with a couple of pirate skeletons who clearly died in battle. Crabs and Seagulls are making use of the bones. You then move past a Skeleton at the ships wheel with a fierce storm in the background. Then you enter treasure caverns. two Skeleton's forever drinking rum. a Pirate in his ornate bed staring through a magnifying glass at his illgotten gains. An enchanted Harpsichord and finally a Skeleton atop a huge mound of treasure (the chest from Black pearl is in the scene now) These shots are where the Ila De morta caves come from. Then you move into a mist filled cavern. In the original ride, you got the following naration alternating between a stearn frightening voice and a more comical one:

(Forboding Pirate's Voice)

No fear have ye of evil curses, sez you? Ahhh... properly warned ye be, sez I ... Who know's when that evil curse will strike the greedy beholders of this bewitched treasure.

Dead men tell no tales, tales, tales, tales. Dead men tell no tales, tales, tales, tales. Dead men tell no tales, tales, tales, tales.

(Old Pirate's Voice)

Perhaps you knows too much, Ye've seen the cursed treasure. Ya know where it be hidden. Now procede at your own risk. These be the last friendly words ye'll hear. You may not survive to pass this way again!

Dead men tell no tales, tales, tales, tales. Dead men tell no tales, tales, tales, tales. Dead men tell no tales, tales, tales, tales.

Now this section is where Davey Jones is located.

After this you move into the Wicked Wench scene and the ride proceeds the same as in florida although I beleive there's a section after the jail which is a bit longer.

Finally, in order to leave the attraction, you go Up a waterfall with Jack Sparrow next to you in the treasure room. Then you come down and look around by the queue and get off at the same place you got on.

Many of the aspects of DL's version were done to overcome limitations. In Florida, they didn't have those limitations, but they also failed to do anything remarkable or unique. You no longer go Up the waterfall which was always a sore point, but you skip all of the stuff that establishes what's going on. You're just thrown down the waterfall with no preamble.
