My family went to see Disney's new show "On the Record" yesterday in Detroit. We enjoyed the live music, singing and dancing very much but families should be warned that this is not a big broadway type musical in the vein of Lion King or Beauty and the Beast.

My children are 9 and 12, my 12 year old liked it more than my 9 year old. 12 yr. old plays clarinet and was into watching the very talented musicians. The cast only consists of 4 leads and 4 ensemble members along with the musicians. No fancy sets but some neat dance routines and clever prop usuage. There were families there with very young kids who seemed a bit restless, maybe they were expecting something different. I would call it a musical review more than a musical play (no spoken dialogue).

It was a nice Disney fix for us in a non-WDW year. Be happy to answer any other questions for families.

Thanks for the info. I just saw it advertised here and wondered what it was about. What songs do they sing?

Around 50 different songs or compliations of songs. Our favs in the show (song, dance, props combined) were "Be Our Guest", "Pink Elephants on Parade", "I Wanna Be Like You" and "Poor Unfortunate Souls". Lots of classics and newer songs.

Took my 12 and 8 year old DD's around the holidays.....WE ALL ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
