Beginning November 1st, there will be modifications to the Disney's Magical Express operation at the Orlando International Airport.

1. You must have booked your use of Disney’s Magical Express prior to arriving at the airport in order to utilize the service. The airport authority will not permit Disney to transfer any Guest that has not arranged Disney’s Magical Express prior to arrival at the airport. If you have not yet confirmed your Disney’s Magical Express reservation, please call your call travel agent or 407-W-DISNEY, to do so.

2. When you arrive at the Orlando International Airport, please proceed directly to the Disney Welcome Center, which is located on A side, Level 1 of the main Terminal. Disney’s Magical Express representatives will no longer be positioned outside of security in the main terminal as you exit the tram, but will be located in the baggage claim areas if you need directions to the Disney Welcome Center.

Thanks for the update, we knew these changes were coming, but it's nice to know that it's finally official.

And, now we await the notification that they will begin charging for the service.

I don't think you will see that until after the 50th anniversary celebration is over, but you WILL see it. We don't dare think that Disney is going to offer this type of service gratis forever, do we? :confused3

One of the airline checkin guys at the Polynesian mentioned that they were supposed to be charging $20 per person, and he thought that it was supposed to happen starting at the beginning of next year. Of course, that's likely akin to the monorail driver that tells guests the Villain park opens in 2007. But, he might know something.

you'll see ME being included at no charge for package deals only. room only ressies will have a minimal fee. there is too much income staying onsite since folks are not renting cars as often to hit Universal or sea world to make a drastic price hike after the 50th.
yes, people are still going to the other parks, but if all of the rental car people were complaining that they were losing too much money then we know people are staying onsite more often

I've read the "normal" price for remote airline checkin is $10/bag so the $20 figure sounds about right.

I think Disney announced DME would remain free through the end of 2006.

This from the Birnbaum Guide, which is the "official" guidebook for WDW. Published earlier this month:

At press time, the service was free, but that may change sometime in 2006.

The good news? As long as the program stays free (and its expected to do so through much of 2006), it is a money saver...

If we go by this, it would appear there are plans to begin charging later this year.

Did you mean to say later NEXT year? or were you making a joke  ?

I have the TIVO service and it had a little blurb that talked about visiting WDW on a budget. It mentioned the ME and said that the service is "currently" free. So, the price increase looms!!! :sad2:
