What exactly is it? I see alot of people involved in it...but I am not sure what it is, and searching on this computer is not working :(

Hi!

Check out the W.I.S.H. forum, sub-forum Events/Competitions for lots of info about Disney marathons! I'd do a link, but I am tech-challenged. A lot of DISers are doing all kinds of Disney events and more! We are a very diverse group, everything from super-speedy super-competitive folks, to newbies just beginning. Everyone is welcome, and everyone is encouraged and supported. Just pop over and introduce yourself. We are friendly group!!

lindsay and i are running the 1/2 marathon in jan! i'm making us Disney Bride Running shirts for us to wear!!!!!!

i think anyone can do a 1/2 marathon, i sure didn't think i could, and i ran 7 miles without stopping last week! you have to start somewhere, i started in the wrong place...by regretting not working out in the weeks leading up to my wedding. my dress was HEAVY and it HURT...

training for the 1/2 is lindsay's bridal boot camp!!!

I'm trying to convince my mom to run in it with me! She is nervous about 13 miles, but she's not as young as she used to be and she thinks she can do it too! Anyone can!! I think it would be a GREAT way to get in shape for a wedding and I'm hoping that this would be the inspiration I need get back into my running form, and get into shape for my own wedding (which will be in June of 09,... at least that's what I have put in for with Disney... now we wait to see which tentative date we get... I should really start a PJ...)

Just remember you don't have to run it! A lot of us WISHers are walkers. I've successfully walked 7 half marathons and 1 full marathon. If I can do it just about anybody can!

Just out of curiosity, how long does it take to walk a half marathon?
I am one of those people who doesn't think I could "run" a half marathon let alone a full one... :)
But walking it might be doable... :lmao:

I am running the half again this year right after my honeymoon in October...it was a blast last year! And my medal was awesome! My mother walked the whole thing last year, I jogged with my father....We finished in under three hours and she was right behind us. it was great experience.

Different events have different timelimits. Disney half-marathons have a 3.5hr timelimit; the Disney full has a 7 hr timelimit. Most half marathons have a 3.5 to 4 hr timelimit, although some do have longer ones. Disney is very strict with their limits, if you are not at certain points by the designated time you are not allowed to continue. This is because the course goes through parks and on Disney roads and they can't be kept open for participants indefinitely. Other events might have a timelimit, but you are allowed to continue on sidewalks if you're too slow for the official pace. Info about this would be spelled out on the event's website, so there won't be any surprises.

Hope this helps!

Ooh thank you... 3hrs means about 4.33mph consistently... hmm... I wonder if I can do that...

Has anyone registered with any of the outside companies/ charitable organizations for the half marathon? It looks like registration through Disney for the half is closed, but I did find a bunch of charitable organizations and some companies that have some spots left. I was wondering how reputable those running organizations are. (I think the charitable organizations are great but don't know if I'll be able to raise enough money to run for them).

Hi Half/Full marathon Brides! I was asked to come over and provide a link over to the WISH/Events forum, but I see that has already happened. WISH Team would love to have anyone who is interested join us. All are welcome.

As for a couple of the questions posed here:

The charitable groups that are nationally recognized as far as I am aware are very reputable. Yes, there is a sizeable sum the is usually required, but I've heard many say that they held garage sales and some businesses in their communities are known to offer donations to the causes.

The length, you can do it but training is a must. I'm going to be 58 this year and started with the original WISH group training in 2004 for the 2005 half. At first that 16 minute mile (we recommend trying to get it closer to 15) was oh so daunting. With the time to train, I realized that it is possible!

WISH Team really is a fun group and quite supportive of training and quite loaded with knowledge just waiting to be released to anyone who asks.

Welcome to those who may venture over. I hope this helped some.
