I think I remember hearing about this project awhile back, but saw the story in the Journal today that Disney is indeed building Golden Oak, a very high end community with 450 homes, starting at 1.4 million, up to 8 million dollars. The community will also have a 445 room Four Seasons resort in the center of the community.
It will be interesting to see if they can make this work. The article mentions that the central florida market has been decimated, down 50-60% from the peak market (and I think that's conservative having lived there myself for a few years during the boom and the beginning of the bust). It also mentions that Disney's Celebration community was not immune from that bust. I know Disney is mostly out of that project now, but still, their name didn't save that market.
You could buy something lakefront in Isleworth or Lake Butler Sound (very exclusive neighborhoods), both within a 10 minute drive from Disney in that 1.5 to 8.0 million range. I'm just wondering if there will be enough interest in the "affluent" market for this project.
The site says that the residents will have access to concierge services that will gladly take care of......and it lists things like VIP tours, park tickets, dinner reservations, tee times. But none of that will be free, it will be extra....it's just that you'll likely not have to worry about getting a last minute table at the California Grill.
