Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

My family and I are staying at CBR/BC from 11/26-12/6 and I want to try to convince my husband to stay at the Cabins for our NEXT trip. I know he will love it when he sees it, so I want to plan an evening to head over the FW and check it out. What do you all recommend doing? We have all our dining set and are happy with it, so dining is out, but any other fun things to do for that time?

There's the wagon ride that leaves from the front of pioneer hall where they have hoop dee doo. It's not very expensive and you'll get to see parts of the campground. Not sure on the time for this.
Or you could go to the campfire sing a long. They sell s'mores packs and the sing a long is fun. Then they show a movie on the outdoor screen.
You can watch the MK fireworks from the beach area. They play the music and it's so relaxing down by the water.

Ditto what the above poster said. How do you plan on getting to the Fort? The easiest and my favorite way from any Disney hotel would be to take a bus to MK and the boat to the Fort. That lets you off up in the front boat/beach area. Which is also all the area that you would want to explore first. The barn is past the Trails End on the right and see of the Disney Horses the Seattlement Trading Post is on the left and kind of across from Trails End. The wagon and carriage rides start later afternoon and goto the fireworks. There is a wagon that does the Wishes too. They go out to the far corner of the lake thru loop 300 and park next to a speaker. Then they finish the ride.

Also that time of year, ALOT of people will have their Christmas Displays out as well as FW having the Disney Trees and decorations. But you must go see all the displays each camper puts out. They had to create rules to limit areas ans such because they were getting too crazy and some people bring their own generators to run all the displays they put up. Its pretty awesome. Christmas time and Halloween are PRIME FW times.

The monthly schedules are posted the first of the month (sometimes a day or so before) on the Camping at Disney thread on the main DIS page. Its where all us FW folks hang, and alot of great pictures and trip reports get posted! Also they are always happy to help pick loops, get ideas and so forth. You can also rent RVs that are delivered and set up for you to stay in. You just show up and leave they rental company does all the rest. So you do not always have to stay in cabins.

Wow! Thanks so much for all the great info!!! I didn't even think of renting an RV for down there! That would make things a bit easier. I haven't even finished planning THIS trip and I am excited for the next one! Lol!
We are planning to go on our no park day and eating at Whispering Canyon. I have a reservation around 5:30 and can't decide whether to head over before, or after. I'm thinking before but now that you described everything, I think we will need a later reservation so we can really appreciate the decorations once it gets darker!

Do not all cabins sleep 6 adults? Looking for availability but when I enter 4A+2C nothing is available, but when I change it to 2A+2C it's available.

There is a queen bed and twin bunks in the bedroom with queen or double sleeper sofa in the living room.

If you are using the exact same dates at Fort Wilderness for 4A+2C and 2A+2C, I do not know why it is not showing. I just choose a few days in November for Fort Wilderness with 6 A and then 4A+2C and it showed available both times.

Yes it can sleep that with the pull out sofa and the full bed and the two bunks. But you will feel a little cramped at times with one bathroom. But maybe stay as close to a comfort station as you can so it will be a easy walk. The second pool has one.

The bunks are shortish--I measured them as having 66x39 inch mattresses, but since they are encased by wood, they sleep shorter than that

I am 5'0" and I had no problem with the top bunk. My mom is 5'3" and was okay with the bottom bunk. We have not stayed since they remodeled so I do not know about the new double sleeper sofa or queen bed.

With 4, we were fine with just 1 bathroom, but I think with even 1 more person, it might have been pushing it. I was more likely to stop at a restroom on my way out of a park so that we did not all need the bathroom at the same time when we got back to the cabin.

We have a cabin booked in August. It will be our first time staying at the Fort. We are a family of 4. The idea was for my DH and I to sleep in the bed and the kids to sleep in the bunk beds. This would leave the living room open with now one sleeping in it. Now I have read in several places that the bunks aren't actually twin beds?!?!? DS is 6' and DD is 5'7". Will they be able to sleep there comfortably or should I plan on packing an air mattress?

When checking in you can request a loop. Is there one loop that is better than others or one that we should hope to stay away from??

You would want to request your loop before arrival. I have never requested a loop. If I was going without a golf cart, I would probably request one of the loops that was smaller so the walk around the loop would be shorter. If I wanted easy access to the cabin pool, I would request one close.

Again, I am short so I cannot help with the bunks for taller people.

Our family of 6 stayed at the cabins in May. Two of our sons ages 18 and 17 slept in the bunks. They are 5'9 and 5'10. Didn't hear any complaints about the bed size.

Ds22 and DD14 slept in the bed. No complaints there either.

Dh and I slept on the pullout. It was comfortable enough. We had no complaints about it. After all, we were in Disney!!!! I usually don't sleep well anywhere the first night or 2. And at nights 3 and 4 I sleep very well.

Is there a list of what cabins have been renovated, and which ones have not? I have seen various updates over the past 6 months or so and I was wondering if there was a place to confirm. The CMs don't seem to have that information.

Yes, they still only sleep six. They just changed the double in the bedroom to a queen and the murphy bed was replaced with the sofa bed. They still have the twin bunks.
