Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

Thanks for the info tobikaye!

The idea was to stop and smell the roses on the way there and back, but it will take a long time. We'll probably decide to either drive or take the bus once we get there. We might even cancel dinner and just hang around FW our first day there.

We are a group of 5. I really want to go on a hay ride or carriage ride. I prefer the hay ride but I'm worried we won't get a seT since its first come first serve. Does it get that busy that we won't get a seat? Am I better off reserving 2 carriages? (Since there's 5 of us)

Didn't get an answer with a regular post, so thought I would check with you all on my favorite thread....

We have stayed in the cabins many times, but never over the holidays, Bringing lights with us, who can help?

Are there outlets outside? More than one? How long is the cabin? Are there gutters to clip the lights to?

Thanks in advance, going to try to make it look like Oaken's trading post. Maybe someone going this month can check for me?

I think there is a low plug on the outside of the cabin between the kitchen and bedroom doors. There is also a plug on the side of the cabin for plugging in golf carts.

How long is the cabin?

I think the majority of them are 42' long by 12' wide.

Are there gutters to clip the lights to?
Not that I remember or see in any photos I Google. You might just have to put the lights around the deck.

In looking at this view, there is definitely a plug on the outide of the cabin but I can't tell if it is just for the golf cart or not. It doesn't appear there are gutters either, however, I bet you could loop the lights around those outdoor sconses.

Here is a link to another page with an image. You can see there is an outlet on the wall between the doors over the deck.

Another thing to note, if you bring a power strip or a multi plug, you can use that on the golf cart outlet.

I don't think you can use a standard plug on this outlet, I believe the golf cart plug is a different type of connection than a normal outlet. But you could use the multiplug on the deck outlet -- although if you use led lights and connect them together you can safely connect a LOT of them with no fear of drawing too much current.

Just wanted to share this for outdoor decorations...the decoration rules, which are included with the FW resort welcome packet, require that the use of outdoor decorations/lighting/extension cords/strips/plugs must meet outdoor-use standards, no indoor-use only allowed.

People were using indoor-use only lighting supplies outdoors, since they pack lighter, but FW is enforcing outdoor lighting supplies to keep us all safe. :)

Hey fellow campers! We are planning our 3rd stay at Fort Wilderness for Oct 2015. This time we plan on renting a 5th wheel.

Where are the best places to start my search?

Any and all advice would be welcome!

Thanks! Happy Vacation Planning!!!

Can Disney floral deliver gifts to campsites? We have a travel trailer, so I am assuming there is not much we can do? We will be there for my DS's actual 5th birthday, and I am trying to make it as special as possible.

Just got back yesterday from our amazing first trip to the Fort. We stayed in a cabin. There is definitely an outlet on the " front" of the cabin, in addition to the golf cart outlet. There is also one on the deck area.

Do any of you Fort Wilderness veterans have any experience with an after midnight arrival to the resort on the DME? We land at 12:40 am. I'm wondering if FW is going to be the last stop on the DME route? Also, how much of a skeleton crew it will be at FW in checking us in and getting us to our cabin in the middle of the night? Thanks!

I would like to:
Travel to the Wilderness Lodge
Walk the trail to Fort Wilderness
Go to the Campfire
Get to Hoop Dee Doo!

What's the best way to go about this?? Which way will I have to go to get to the trail? Will I have to take a bus to the campfire from the trail? Will I have to take a bus from the campfire to Hoop Dee Doo? I don't know how close these things are to each other! It will also be dark by the time I get there. Will this matter? Is the trail lit? I assume Ft. Wilderness is. THANKS all!!

Hi there! :wave2:

Here is a link to one of the installments on this thread with a map of the Fort.

Map of the Fort

Are you walking from the WL to FW?? The trail is not lit, so it's pretty dark at night. We probably wouldn't walk it at night time but that's just us  If walking or riding the boat over, the HDDR is right there at Pioneer Hall...very close to where you would be coming off the trail or boat. If you would like to venture over to the Campfire, you'll need to hop on an internal bus. The Fort is HUGE, so the internal bus system comes in very handy.

Hope this helps :goodvibes

Thanks so much!! You answered some important questions!! Arrive at the trail before dark - very important!! And bus to the campfire and back! Just what I was looking for!! Thanks for taking the time to answer!!

Be careful on the trail -- we ran into one of the orignal residents of the area -- the kind they make expensive shoes out of.

Scanning through the thread, but have a question. I see a quick service restaurant, but is there a bar anywhere? Nothing fancy, just looking to see if there is a place to sit in the afternoon and have a cocktail.
