Here's a recent pic of the construction going on in the Tower, it was posted on the DVC Board by WDWMOE:

Thanks for posting this picture. It looks like it's slowly getting completed, so hopefully it will be done by the 1st week of December.

What are they putting in that area in the photo? I can not figure out if those are display shelves sitting upside down or what? HELP! I LOVE the CR and I am hoping that they are not going to put something there permanently?

The image in the picture is going to be the new store and I am sure once it's completed it will look a lot nicer, then the way it looks now.

Unfortunately, it's permanet. It's the new Fatasia store. Here's a link to some of the design sketches posted on Allearsnet: http://www.allearsnet.com/blogs/allearsteam/walt_disney_world/resorts/contemporary/

Scroll about halfway down the page for the artist's renderings of the new store. I personally think the new store destroys the look and feel of the Grand Canyon Concourse.

Anyone know what will happen to the other stores? Both have changed much over the years ( I miss the ones of the '80's when they sold some higher end clothing and nice children's clothing), but am hoping stores will remain - or does Disney plan to do soemthing else with those spaces?

Thanks!

The old Fantasia store is now the arcade. The other is still a gift shop.

We will be staying at the CR Oct. 18-21. Can you see the fireworks from EVERY room? If not what rooms do we need to request? I don't care about what view we have, I just want to be able to sit in our room and watch fireworks, preferably on a balcony. Is the Temporary Grab & Go our only food option if we don't have reservations anywhere at the hotel? We aren't going to the parks our first day, so we planned on swimming and eating dinner at the hotel. But the Grab & Go doesn't look like it has many choices. Thanks!

If it doesn't appeal to you, you always have the options of monorailing over to Poly or GF and looking around over there. That's always a plus for the monorails. You might be able to get into Kona (at Poly) without ressies, but I heard it's harder to do if you're eating dinner there (as opposed to breakfast/lunch). People say that Kona is amazing.

If you are booked in a Tower Room with a MK view you will be able to see the fireworks from your balcony :)

There is also Captin Cook's at the Polynesian and Gasparilla's Grill & Games at the Grand Floridian which are those Resorts counter service locations if you are not able to make ADR's or walk into a restaurant.

How bad is the storage situation in the new rooms really? I've read some things that give me the impression there isn't any room to unpack your clothes. Is it really that bad or is that mostly hyperbole? I've looked at room pictures on Allearsnet and it appears there are drawers in the closets. Do both closets have drawers or just one side? Are there any other drawers in the room?

No room is perfect and every Disney resort has some negatives, but we're trying to decide whether this so-called storage problem and sink issue at the Contemporary is actually a deal killer.

I appreciate any input y'all have.

We had 5 of us in our room and had no problem. There were the closets (one to just hang up the other had drawers) and then there were drawers next to the bed by the desk. I unpack everything and use the suitcases to put our worn clothes back into so I don't have to pack up too much before we leave. We managed just fine.

We were there for a week and unpacked all of our luggage. I did not notice not having enough storage. Two closets and drawers is more than most hotels I have been too.

The four of us had minor problems.

We used the drawers in the closet, the two under the desk and we also used the storage area in the night stand.

Hey we're there for a week, we'll deal. The sinks I thought they were cool, got used to them really quickly, BUT I did make a mental note to never replace my home sinks with that type. There is a shelf under the sinks to put your stuff and that was enough for us. Our friends acutally used the 2nd sink as "counter" space.

We loved the new decor and we're going back to the CR next year with my parental units.

My parents and I did not think it was that bad. Some itmes we left in our suit cases and other items we decided to put some stuff in the closet and drawers.

I horribly overpack for myself so I don't even try to put all my stuff away and nearly all of DH's shirts hang in the closet, so I really can't speak to the drawer space. With respect to the sinks, we just chose to use one for washing and one for all the bathroom stuff and that worked out fine. The sinks take a little longer to drain b/c of the flat design and we had to wipe up the stray hairs after DH shaved, but again no big deal.
