I booked CR Garden Wing- Garden View for 12-6-12-14/2016! So excited for my DS's first trip!

Now that I booked though, I'm having second thoughts comparing the prices between BLT (renting points) and CR.... BLT is cheaper if i rent but with that comes the lost of flexibility to change my reservation... DS is going to be 2.5 and I picked CR for the convenience. How far is the walk to MK comparing CR garden wing vs BLT?? What's the main differences between the 2 resorts?

Don't double guess yourself. You already pointed out the difference between the cost and the flexability. You will still have a wonderful vacation. But since you asked: BLT is well, obviously closer to the Magic Kingdom. In the garden wing you have maybe an extra 8 minutes to your walk to the magic kingdom. You also are a bit further from the main concourse for the monorail service, chef mickeys, etc since you have to go up once you get to the main resort tower. BLT has a sky bridge that connects directly to this floor. In the garden wing you will get house keeping everyday, something that will cost you extra at BLT if you want it every day. The other main amenities that you would be missing out on as a non-member are primarily room related, either a kitchenette in the studio or a full kitchen and in room washer and dryer for all other rooms. The other potential is the inclusion of lake or theme park view if you decide that you want to book that category.

Thanks @Quellman :) So just to clarify... BLT is much closer to MK? How many minutes would the walk from BLT to MK be? I've looked at maps but I can't really approximate the distance between the resorts. From maps, it looked like CR was in the middle and BLT and garden wing was on either side of CR?

Correct. BLT is on the side closer to MK. But even from the farthest GW room, the walk to MK is only 15 minutes or so. BLT is perhaps 5 mins "closer"?

Here is a video of the walk, 10 minutes by this person's video from the escalator at the contemporary lobby, which is about half a mile. BLT is the length of the Contemporary closer than the garden wing. The difference in the distance is probably 900 feet. The difference between BLT and the Contemporary Lobby to the Magic Kingdom is negligible. You are correct in your geography in terms of locations of the 3 wings of the Contemporary.

Thanks again! Looks like BLT is a great option in terms of distance to MK... :-) Lots of pros and cons to consider :upsidedow

One more question... Is the TPV view in BLT worth it? Since we have our DS2 with us, I expect we wouldn't see a lot of fireworks... I was thinking the fireworks in the room would be nice... :P

Does the Contemporary club level do anything special for NYE? I know the Polynesian had champagne (which I missed because I was on the beach and they promptly closed the club level immediately after midnight after I figured out where everyone was getting their champagne from o_O )

I can't answer your question, but hopefully others will be able to help :flower3:.

How exciting! I'm sure you'll have a magical trip :wizard:.

Thanks for your responses MickeyNut1 and KMorlock!

You're welcome :).

:wave:Hi, up there:rolleyes:

Thanks WDWKOOK! Much appreciated! :-)

So EWP can be viewed from the CR beach? Is that right?

Yep!

So at the last minute, my in laws have decided to join us on our Disney trip. We are in a 1 BR standard view at BLT. They have a Studio with a Lake View. It doesn't look like there is anywhere that those two rooms could be next to each other, unless they are downgraded to standard view.

Is that something that they can do when we check in? And do all of the one bedrooms and studios connect?

TIA!

Is it too late to just book one Two-Bedroom instead of a Studio and One? That would be the answer to your problem and it would cost less.

Take a look at the BLT View thread HERE. It seems there might be some Studio/One BR LO and SV/LV cross-over, but best to ask your question there.

Does anyone know more about the Bay Cove pool closure? It looks like it closes the day I get there! wah!!! We're staying BLT February 1-9. We're bringing a couple of younger cousins for a 'once in a lifetime' trip. We purposefully picked this resort because we anticipated construction at WL. I know it doesn't ruin my whole vacation but since I only just found this out. I'm kinda bummed out for now. :(

I guess the best we can hope for is a late start to construction? Anyone have any experience with this?:hyper2: Did other deluxe resort pool refurbs start on time? :sail:

Kind words and constructive thoughts only, please. :dogdance:

I don't know why it's being closed and it's possible, the closure might be canceled. It's only a 7-week closure, so it doesn't appear to be a major project, like the WL pool was. BLT already has a fence, so I'm not sure what they're doing. You can always call and ask for more information, but be prepared for the CM to not know anything about this. I'll see if I can find a permit filing.

Bumping your question, but I would think they would. If you're already booked, the IPO will answer your question.

Welcome! I'll log your dates. I never recommend booking on points since you don't "own" the reservation and can't make any requests yourself and you can't make changes or cancel without penalty. Can you book a cash reservation at BLT and apply a discount? Did you apply a discount to your CR booking?

We have swapped our reservation from CBR to CR! We are super excited! Our dates are May 25- June 2. This will be our first stay at CR.

Hope things are going well with you :flower3:.

I agree. I know renting points works great for some people and can save money, but I need the flexibility of cancelling/changing if need be ;).

Congrats! Hope you have a great first stay at the CR :).

What "flavor" toiletries are available in the CR right now?

I loved the grapefruit scent of 2013. I stayed at the GF in September and they had a Sea Salt scent instead.

What should I expect in Feb at the CR?

A thread on wdwmagic.com is reporting/speculating on the possibility of a monorail accident at CR with ambulances there now. Is anyone there now able to provide any details?

I believe they are still providing the grapefruit at CR, however, suites and some CL rooms sometimes provide the Sea Salt. We also had the Sea Salt in August at GF, but grapefruit at Poly, CR and WL.

The monorails were testing the new automation system on the express line earlier. I saw a report that monorail coral hit something during testing. No word on what or damage.

Latest report on that thread is that Coral's nose was damaged.

Towing tractor made contact with monorail coral resulting in incident. No injuries.
Thank you for posting the good news update:) Hopefully, the tow still works and can get Coral back to the barn for some buffing and TLC.
