Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

In the late 90s early 2000s we used to go during Jersey week (November) and that wasn't too bad. Last several years we have gone during Christmas/NYE (of course terribly crowded) but the week after NYE is pretty off-peak. Which day NYE falls on, and the first day of the marathon will impact the crowd levels. This past January we arrived the Sunday after NYE (January 4th) and everyone had checked out that morning. It was very uncrowded until Wednesday. Then people started arriving and it was getting busier by Friday/Saturday. Still, it is not near the crowd levels you will see during holidays and summers.

This year we are going the week of Jan 11 and I am guessing that it will get more crowded as we approach the holiday weekend, when we will be leaving. I was trying to avoid the holiday people staying until Jan 2 then the marathon events people arriving on the 6th. It really is quite challenging avoiding crowds.

Hope you've found a sweet spot with your next trip:)

Hi Kook,

I just changed resorts for my April trip. No longer staying at BLT. We'll be at BWV boardwalk view. Yay! Very happy to try BWV especially since our friends are getting married at the gazebo! I'll be back at BLT in June :)

The YC gazebo is a lovely location - have a great time and I'll see you on the BWI/BWV thread.

We visited once at the end of January, and it was pretty quiet. We had just done a trip in December when it was freezing cold and a little more crowded, so it was a relief to have slightly warmer weather and less crowds.

I was thinking about The Wave...years ago I had read some bad reviews, but lately I am reading a lot of good ones. We've eaten at a ton of WDW restaurants, but never that one, so it sounds like a good choice. Thanks!

Trying new restaurants at WDW is fun and we particular love The Wave for breakfast. They have an excellent buffet and it's easy to get in without and ADR. January seems to be a popular low period, if you time it just right.

DH and I tend to go during wine and food in Oct and back in late 90's it wasn't 't crowded at all and now.... Well it can seem like spring break at times! Friends have visited the first couple weeks of December after the Thanksgiving crowds and said it doesn't seem crowded and wait times are minimal if any waiting at all in ride lines.

There seem to be events year 'round now that are of course meant to attract more guests. I guess you'd have to look for a no holiday, no event, lowest price point, no school vacations, here or overseas, time period to visit at a "low" attendance period.

I think the Food and Wine Festival was added to entice people to come during a fairly slow time. It took a while, but it definitely worked!! Now it's really difficult to book during that time.

We went the second week of December last year, and I think it's just never "empty" anymore, but that was the best for crowds that we've seen so far. We're going the same time again this year. The downside is that it can be really cold some days!!

ITA and all those marathons and other running events. We went in early December once when DD was in kindergarten and we could take her out of school. The weather is cooler, it hardly rains, the decorations are up, kids are still in school, at least in the US. Looking forward to hearing about your trip in a few months and your cruise, too.

We will be staying at the CR from 12/14-12/18.

My DH has no idea we are staying here. If I can keep the secret (BIG "if"... so far I've kept the secret about 3 weeks!), he will find out when we board the DME. We had originally booked a standard room at the WL, but I upgraded to a Tower Theme Park View room as an anniversary surprise. Wish I could have done CL, also... but I'm pretty excited to just have the TPV.

This is gonna be an excellent trip, just the two of us. Our first Christmas trip AND our first time at the CR.

So many fun firsts! DH is sure going to be surprised when the DME goes right past the WL entrance on World Drive. Let us know how he reacts to the big surprise and I'll add your dates to the log.

Thank you! I will! It's our 29th anniversary, so I wanted to do something big for him. I think this will work. :teeth:

Congratulations! We'll be celebrating our 29th next year. Do you have a special anniversary dinner planned?

Congratulations to you, too! No special dinner. Our nights are pretty full so far. We're doing a MVMCP, DHS Dessert Party & we're thinking about HDD. We'll probably have a small celebration one night on the balcony watching Wishes or something. Gotta get full use of that view!

Just in case my fellow contemporary and BLT fans don't know about this and want to be extra styling when they walk in the door...vans has a Disney shoe line ! To feed my shoe and Disney obsession I scored the Mickey, Minnie and pooh styles and believe there is also a Donald Duck. Some available on the vans website and zappos.

Thanks! I love the Minnie Mouse slip-ons. Perfect for travel days! I'm gonna get DD the Pooh's for Christmas.

I have a little bit of an odd question regarding what side of the room the beds are on in the garden wing.
We have stayed in the tower and know the orientation of the rooms on both sides by the "odd and even" room number, but I am not sure about the garden wing.
We will be staying in the garden wing standard view next month and I am trying to figure out if I should request a odd number room like we would in the tower.

This has nothing to do with the view.. it has to do with which side of the room the beds are on when you walk into the room.
Does anyone that has stayed in the garden wing know if they had a odd or even room number and which side of the room the beds were on.

We are basically looking for the rooms "odd or even" that have the beds and bathroom on the left side when you walk into the room like the odd number rooms in the tower.
It is an OCD/Anxiety issue for a family member..

Thanks!!
Sorry my reply is a week late. My trip was a few weeks ago and I haven't visited the DIS much since then ( depressing!?!). We were in room #5106 - first floor right by the pool - and our room had bath and beds on the right side.

There is a map on page 1 of this thread that may be helpful to you. It is captioned "older map but it has room numbers" and has a blue border. The map shows the adjoining room walls as straight lines between rooms on the map. The beds/baths will be on the wall opposite the adjoining room wall.

Same with us. We've never tried The Wave, but I am always reading great things about it so I'm thinking we might give it a try on our next trip :).

I agree, I don't think there are many slow times anymore. December can be cold, but it's also a lot of fun with all of the holiday festivities. Hope you have a great trip :santa:.

How exciting! Any special plans in place yet?

Thanks for this info, I'll have to check them out ::yes::.

29 is a popular number. We celebrate ours in two weeks and we head to WDW in four weeks.

Happy Anniversary! Hope you have a great trip :wizard:.

Thanks for the Reply!! so it seems that it coincides with the tower. Odd room number bed and bath on the left and even number they are on the right.

Lots of 29s! We'll be celebrating #11 on Halloween in MK this year! Hoping we'll be able to celebrate #29 there too!

Hopefully Jack is with you as well at MK for Halloween!! (Referring to your screen name of course! :) ) That's awesome your anniversary is on Halloween, obviously you're a big fan!

Our 11th is this year as well in early October. It's actually on the day we get off our Disney cruise, so it's our travel day home, but the timing was better than waiting to cruise the next week. Happy anniversary to everyone coming up!

On the Anniversary note, our 23rd is coming up in Oct. as well ❤️. Happy Anniversary to all celebrating, especially those at Disney & DCL! Have a magical day!

Just wanted to add my name to the October anniversary list! DH and I were in the World last year on our anniversary (Oct. 14) and plan to be next year as well (our 10th)!

Happy Anniversary to the rest of my October friends!

Congrats to everyone celebrating 29th anniversaries! We recently celebrated #10, but not in Disney World. We did spend #9 at BLT last year, though. We were going to go this year for our 10th, but just couldn't wait another year!

Congrats on 10 years! I hear you on it being hard to wait for a Disney trip....LOL. Hope you had a great time celebrating :wizard:.

We will be celebrating our 40th on 11/22. Staying 11/22 - 11/27. We will have dinner on the 22nd at California Grill. Our second stay at the CR. Hooked after the 1st stay!

Congrats on 40 years! :flower3:. Have a great trip!
