I worked cleaning rooms once for a day. We had a 45 min morning meeting, then the manager proceeded to fire 2 employees because they were supposedly too young. (after they'd been working there for 6+months). That was my first clue the job was not great.Agree! I miss turndown and chocolates! I think I would rather they cleaned my room at 5p when I am not in it than 3p when I want a shower and rest.
We were supposed to work over 8 hours with no lunch or break of any kind. On top of that, cleaning the bathrooms of strangers was far more gross than I imagined it would be. And then we partly warned that guests were sometimes violent to housekeepers.
Still, I say, ideally, when WDW is fully staffed, it would be nice if guests had some way of communicating with housekeeping that would make their job easier and our vacation better. Like maybe we rank our preferences between: morning, afternoon or evening and/or staff sends us a short text when they are done cleaning Just something very simple like that.
Housekeeping usually has to start with check-outs so rooms are ready for expected new arrivals. That might be one room or almost all the rooms, staff might not have much ability to service carryovers in the morning at all. So any communication would need to be flexible.
Maybe today's customers aren't willing to make something like that feasible. The day I cleaned rooms though, I thought that information would help housekeepers do a better job. I REALLY didn't want to disturb anyone who was sleeping in, or otherwise disturb people who preferred time to shower, etc in privacy. At least, within reason.
