Resort Thread Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH Resort

Page 1 of this thread she says: "The majority, if not all, of the courtyards are designated smoking areas. Not all rooms with a courtyard view will be effected by the DSA; however, if you or someone in your party is allergic to smoke, you may ask that you not be placed in a room facing a courtyard."

So you may want to reconsider the courtyard rooms if you have an issue with smoking. I'm just crossing my fingers that if there are smokers it won't be a major puff down area 24-7.
I guess that's what we have to decide. We will have 3 rooms and it would be nice to have that area to meet in the mornings before heading to the parks, especially with 6 kids. We would have given that up for a water view but apparently that wasn't meant to be with availability.
No allergies, just hate smoke. And my ASD boy could potentially have problems with it, I suppose. If it isn't non-stop smoke, I think we will be fine, just don't want it so the smell is always there and coming in the rooms. And the courtyards are just so cute! Not river view, of course, but really nice for just a standard view room!

This may have been asked already but does anyone have an idea what "summer" means referring to the Jamaica pool?

So we were looking at pictures of the resort and getting excited! It is a beautiful resort! We couldn't spring for the water view room and were pretty excited about some of the courtyard views. Then my sister (also going at the same time, looked and saw that those courtyards are all smoking areas on the maps. :( Is this true? So close to the rooms?

This is something that bothered us.....so many smoking sections and so close to the rooms. Every time we walked by one, we'd say we were so thankful not to be in those rooms that literally open right out to a smoking area. I'm not sure why the need for so many either.

I don't like the smoke either. I haven't done my online check in yet (first time doing online check in) - is there a place to put a request there to not be near a designated smoking area?

Here are the check in options and no where to put in a request but you can always call and add it to your reservation.

It does seem to have many more designated smoking areas that the other resorts. Some sections in POR need to walk pretty far to find one. I guess I was hoping that maybe they weren't used much, only by people staying directly surrounding the courtyard maybe. Sounds like that wasn't the case.

So I took a walk around yesterday to check out the quiet pools. They basically are pouring a foot of concrete on top of the existing walls, putting gates in the openings, and ramps at a couple of entrances. The Aruba pool was apparently jackhammered up and reported to a max depth of 4.5 feet. Trinidad north has been done and is still 6' deep, which surprised a couple of maint guys I talked to. Jamaica has most of the walls poured and is still 6' deep. It is full of water. I will post pics if I get a chance, I need to reduce them to post them. image.jpeg

Thanks for the pool picture. What pools are completed, and what ones are left? Last year the bridge was closed when we went. Want to make sure we are in an area that the pool will be open. Had always stayed in Jamaica, but asked for a different area last year, Barbados was just as nice, I don't mind the walk. The walk from Barbados is flat.

I've updated the informational posts to include the pool closure information released to travel agencies. That's the only information that we have right now.

In regards to the smoking areas, we have had two stays at CBR. One for 9 nights in Barbados, one for 11 nights in Jamaica. Both times we had rooms in the courtyards. Neither time did we have a problem with the smoking issue, maybe we got lucky. I would sometimes see people smoking there early in the morning but it never smelled bad and the smell never came anywhere near to our room. Most of the time they were empty. Just our experience.

I will add my son who was 17 on our last visit spent hours in that courtyard talking to his girlfriend lol. Maybe their teenage, lovestruck conversations scared off all the smokers!

We had a corner room in Aruba, Bldg 52, that faced a beautiful courtyard. It was NOT one of the designated smoking areas.
Having a water view isn't all that important, there are no balconies to sit on to enjoy it. Take your morning walk around the water and then grab coffee from OPR and sit outside and enjoy the view! There's loads of places to sit with lovely views!

Thank you for the pics!! I was worried for nothing...the pools dont look too bad actually! and the bridge looks nice too. We have decided to just not worry about the other small pools being worked on. We did pay for a water view this year to be close to a pool hopefully but right now..I will forfeit everything if we can just get a pull down bed, saves me going out and buying a blow up mattress.

Thank you so much for this thread. I was not overly confident in my choice in CBR (I chose it to get free dining), but after reading this and looking at the awesome pictures, I am so excited. We've been to Disney several times, but this is our first stay on site. I'm a little concerned about how long it will take to get to and from the parks, but this thread really helped get me psyched! One question, can we bring outside food to OPR and sit there to eat? I was hoping to grab our first night's meal at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's and eat at the resort. We have local family joining us and won't be using one of our dining credits that night. We want the kids to be able to chill out and enjoy the resort that first night.

We are celebrating my daughter's 16th Birthday and will be there from 10/1-10/8! Can't wait!!!

You sure can.

We have went to Publix off site and bought snacks. The rooms have refrigerators. And you can also go with Garden Grocers and Amazon, I think, and have some food shipped to CBR for your stay.
