We also had requested Jamaica or Aruba for our arrival this Wednesday. In looking at the map, if we were to be put in Jamaica 41 or 42, is there another bridge that looks pretty close that we could walk over? Hard to tell in pictures.

I just Personally talked to a very nice CM about an hour ago. Was very nice and we talked for about 10min. This CM told me there would be no closing of the bridge. So confused, I made sure I said between Jamaica to OPR. On Friday when I called a CM said the bridge would only be closed one day 8/26. I will be sure to update this thread when I get there. Might be upgrading if the bridge is closed when we get there, and that would stink!

Well, now I have a decision to make. I did online checkin and asked for Jamaica. Now the bridge refurb has me rethinking this choice. Can I change online checkin? The problem is that everyone is going to be asking for Martinique now, so a lot won't get their requests honored. I'm thinking maybe I should just ask for Barbados or be specific and ask for Jamaica 41.

I know there is never a good time for a refurb, but this was poorly executed. If I'd have known this, I would have stuck with a POR Royal room, but I switched to CBR when a Free Dining room became available. But whatever. I'll deal with it and hope we luck out with a decent location.

I'm just catching up on all this stuff about the bridge renovations. We are in a pirate themed room (It was the only room type available to get free dining), I guess there is really nothing we can do to get closer to the main pool and dining is there?

OH come on, what is GOING ON?? I can't stand the inconsistency of CM's telling one thing to one guest and another tell another something else. All i know is i personally called the CBR hotel itself this afternoon and spoke to gentleman at the desk and he did tell me the bridge from Jamaica to Port Royale will be close for a few months for refurb starting 8/27. then he connected me to a reservation agent to see if i can switch hotels and the reservation agent even put me on hold to re-confirm what the gentleman said to me was true and she confirmed that. I couldn't switch hotels due to no availability but she put new request to move to closer to Port Royale...Did i do that for nothing based on above? I guess i won't know the whole truth until i get there in 10 days!

Disney cast members are severely uninformed. At one point cast members at the Polynesian were telling guests the east pool would be closing after the summer. It ended up closing 3 days later...

Yes that bridge connecting Jamaica and Trinidad should be walkable. Looking on google earth it does have a sidewalk next to the road.

If the bridge refurb talked about the past couple pages is indeed true, it will not affect you one bit being in a Pirate Themed Room.

Unfortunately, as others have stated, the phone CMs are the last to know about any refurbs and sometimes they are just not told. And I can almost guarantee you didn't speak to anyone actually at CBR. All calls, even when you hit the "Front Desk" button on your room phone, are routed to a Call Center. Depending on the number you dialed, the CM will answer like they are at that resort and will do their best to have you believe they are located at that resort. There are a couple instances that they will transfer you to the resort like if you left something in your room they will transfer you to housekeeping. Or if you want to make a reservation/rent a boat they will connect you to the marina at a resort. But other than that, they will not connect you to any resort front desk. The phones at the front desk can only receive calls from the back room where they assign rooms or from the resort general manager's office.

Because of the above, the DIS is usually the best place to get correct information on things of this nature. You are most likely correct in that you won't be able to find out for sure until you arrive or hopefully somebody who follows this thread is there right now and can find out. Here are some DIS members that are there now, I will list them with the @ symbol so they get an alert and hopefully read this post and have some information.

FYI- just checked Into carribean beach. Bridge crossing from Ariba and Jamaica will be closed starting 27th for refurb. I do not know how long- just in case anyone was planning on using it (like us). :/

There is no way to call the resort directly. Call the main reservation line and have the phone CM change your request.

Surely can't be taking as long to refurb the bridge as it did to refurb an entire village??

Anyone know how long the walk would be from Jamaica to OPR without the bridge?

We just got back from CBR we stayed in Jamaica building 42 room 4206 ground floor, I timed our walk going out to the right around the lake and with my DW DD and DS who is in a stroller it took us 9 minutes and that was taking our time, so even if you are in building 45 it might take alittle longer, we went that way alot, its a nice relaxing walk. Still a bummer not having an option.

They are still working on the Pirate Themed Rooms, but the rest of the resort has been completed.

Where did you fax it to and what did you include in the fax?

There is a number on page 2 of this thread, I believe. I included our reservation number, name, dates and requests in the order of importance.
