Disney's Cancellation of Package Pick-up Question

I see Disney is not only no longer offering resort to hotel delivery, but they do not allow you to pick-up your purchases at the front of the park. Do they have any exceptions in Disney Studios for the droids and sabers? Those are not cheap and obviously you cannot carry a saber around with you all day. They are too large to be carried onto an attraction for sure.

As far as I'm aware, there are no exceptions for the droids and light sabers. Merchandise delivery to the hotels and the front of the park has not returned in any form. For the droids, they could probably fit in a locker located at the front of the park. I know you cannot bring the sabers onto Rockin Roller Coaster in particular and CMs won't hold them for you while you ride (I've never asked but I've overheard others ask and CMs telling them no).

I bet that brings sales down a bit. I can understand saving money on ending resort delivery, but front of the park seems like shooting themselves in the foot.

Honestly, I don’t think so since it is still so hard to book. If this was an issue, they’d have brought it back… Chapek never left money on the table.

When DD and her SO did sabers and droids they had them mailed home which you can still arrange. Said it wasn’t expensive and super convenient and easy.

A lot of people time their droid/saber appointments around mid-day breaks back to the resort or later evening. That’s what DD did for DGSs in June. The boys brought them home in the droid backpack as their carry on.

I was wondering if they somewhat revised their policy. I was watching a recent Paging Mr. Morrow video on YouTube where he is at DAK (from maybe mid January 2023). He bought a sweatshirt at Island Mercantile and he said they held it for him while he was in the park. He said he filled out paperwork and they gave him a yellow slip to claim it later. He actually forgot to go back to get it until he was almost to the park exit so he had to backtrack to the shop. Not sure if they did it because they knew who he was or if this is something they do now for all guests. If anyone has any experience with this lately, let us know!

Package delivery to the front of the park and resorts was discontinued when the parks closed in March 2020.

Front of the park delivery was brought back for a few weeks one Christmas (2020? 2021?) but then discontinued again and never brought back.

Exactly! However when he went to DAK it was after the holiday season and the Run Disney weekend. He was able to have the shop hold his purchase while he was enjoying the rest of the park. It was Island Mercantile, on Discovery Island. I thought it was interesting, if they were doing it but not promoting it. Or if it was because he is a well known vlogger.

I think they hold the purchase at the location you bought it from.

When we were at DLR in late summer, we wanted to buy something with our 30% off deal (for magic key holders). The CM offered to sell it to us and hold it there for us to return to pick it up. We said we would come back right before we left for the day, which we did. Then, when we got home, we realized that they didn't remove the magnetic tag to deter shoplifting so had to bring the receipt to the local Disney Store outlet to get them to remove the tag...

I gathered that, hence my initial post. LOL I was just asking if there were ever any exceptions. A lightsaber cannot be held by a CM or taken on a ride.

I will ask when we go and see what they say. I may just have to ship it home. The fee is worth the convenience, I think.....provided they also insure it in case it is destroyed by the carrier.

Make sure you don’t lose your receipt. If staying onsite- go to your resorts gift shop with the items & receipts - very easy. In June, I shipped a LOT of souvenirs home from POFQ gift shop. My huge box arrived to our Chicagoland home about 5 or 6 days later ($35).
You can ship your lightsaber directly after you finish it. They are set up to handle it … and I think do it often. No need to go to your resort gift shop. Just leave it with them and enjoy the park. DD and her SO did droids last summer and light saber a couple of weeks ago.

IDK what they did about rides, but I’ve seen lots of folks carrying lightsabers around in those bags that look like fly rod bags LOL I wouldn’t want to ship mine immediately; I’d want some pics with it. I’ve seen a PP photog doing super cool night shots near Oga’s. Just my 2 cents.

I heard the only ride they could not go on is RotR. Can anyone confirm/add other rides?

I took my saber on Rise back in October 2021. You can't take it on Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. I don't know about Tower of Terror.
