I loved the "Black Hole." Watched it the other day.

There are three basic types, Mr. Pizer: the Wills, the Won'ts, and the Can'ts. The Wills accomplish everything, the Won'ts oppose everything, and the Can'ts won't try anything.

Enter Disney's Black Hole Again
Tron: Legacy team to remake sci-fi tale.
by Scott Collura

December 1, 2009 - Disney's 1979 The Black Hole may not be a classic, but for many of us genre fans of a certain generation it remains a cheeseball favorite. And now, it's about to get the remake treatment.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news that the studio has brought in the team behind their Tron reboot/sequel, Tron: Legacy, to revive The Black Hole. Director Joseph Kosinski and producer Sean Bailey have been charged with reimagining what was, back in 1979, the most expensive Disney movie ever made. Clash of the Titans remake scribe Travis Beacham will pen the project, which is one of the first films to be put into development by new studio chief Rich Ross.

The original film was about the crew of the Palomino, a rather bland group of futuristic Earth astronauts who stumble upon a long-lost ship called the Cygnus, which is captained by none other than a raving mad Maximilian Schell -- who has a really cool and mean robot named… Maximilian! The mysterious and creepy Schell plans on exploring the black hole he's discovered, and it's up to the Palomino's Robert Forster, Ernest Borgnine, Yvette Mimieux, and Anthony Perkins -- plus their trusty robot V.I.N.CENT. (voiced by Roddy McDowall) to get to the bottom of things.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, V.I.N.CENT.'s name stands for "Vital Information Necessary CENTralized." And he's got ESP, even though he's a robot.

The 1979 picture was Disney's first PG-rated film -- perhaps because of the disemboweling of Perkins scene, for one thing -- and it also was one of the first movies to utilize CGI.

"The details of the update are being kept secret, though the take does involve grounding the story in the science of a black hole, much more so than in the original," says the trade paper. "Maximilian also would return."

If they bring back Maximilian then they've got to bring back V.I.N.CENT. too. And old B.O.B. Don't forget about old B.O.B.!

Wow. So we had new Herbie and Witch Mountain movies, and we have new Tron & Black Hole coming. What's next? New Swiss Family Robinson?

When I read the title of this post I thought you were talking about the carnival area at AK.:rolleyes1
Or maybe PI.

Good to hear !

I've always had a strange fascination with that film. (aside from it's annoying soundtrack...)

It always struck me as a "coulda been" great film, but something got in the way. The Star Wars mania of the time, the often times adult themes that ran through it...

Who knows

Still, I think it will be a very interesting remake.

I love John Barry's soundtrack. Is a beautiful/haunting score. It used to be and still maybe one of the hardest Soundtracks to find (complete) on CD. I do have a cd of the original recording sessions and it is incredible.

You must be doing the single digit dance, also!

I suppose...

To me, it's just SO darned repetitive. (na, na, na....NAnanana...) Heh, there's no way to type that, but I bet you know what I mean.

Makes me want to jump into the nearest black hole just to get away from it... :lmao:

I like the creapy 70's synthesiser that plays the theme.
