Disney's ART OF ANIMATION RESORT Thread

I have questions re: the food court: Are there other "sides" than what is listed in allears (cauliflower w/tomatoes, squash, rice, lentils)? If rice is already with the entree, why is it a side - so one can have double? My family will eat exactly none of those sides, so every single one of the tandoori dishes is out. (Not even sure they will eat tandoori - is it spicy?) In looking at the lunch/dinner menu, I think my family may only eat a burger, pizza or the meatball sub. Unfortunately my extended family really wants to stay here ... I don't want to if there's nothing for my immediate family to eat. Kind of a bummer. We always all stay at the same resort so we can be close and do lots of things together. Ugh.

some that I can remember are macaroni and cheese, fries, coleslaw and salads. did not eat there often, but I did enjoy the buffalo turkey sandwich.

Yup just found a menu with a better format: The other sides include fries, coleslaw, soup, naan bread and cheesy pesto bread.

These sides can be bought as a snack on the DDP which is one reason why the rice is separate on the sides menu in addition to the fact that the tandoori options don't include it.

There are seasoned french fries, house-made potato chips, cole slaw, and some type of breadsticks....at least those are the things I know I ate as side dishes when we were there last year. There are more sides listed as you scroll down the allears menu. Some are only listed as part of an entree. You can always order just the main dish without the sides. There are also some things like fresh veggies, small salads, bags of chips, etc. available in the grab and go area. If you're on the dining plan, they would mostly be snack credits.

Booking tonight as we speak!!!

August 7-17 in a Nemo Suite!!

Can't wait to go back!! And it's a surprise trip!!! :cool1:

When we went, we just bkfst and lunches in the food court. On the dinner menu, only the create your own pasta was a hit, but it was really good! Surprisingly, the pizza was not bad either. I had 2 kids who wanted pizza one evening, and it was cheaper to get a whole pie than 2 individuals

Thanks all! My family doesn't eat anything spicy nor does DH eat any veggies. So the cauliflower etc won't fly with him. And then he'll be grumpy. But if he can get mac & cheese that might work. We'll keep thinking! Family trips can be challenging! But fun!

I recall that the mac and cheese was decent and I enjoyed the french fries. It definitely sounds like the Tandoori and Mongolian BBQ is not for your family (and not for mine either) but I do feel like there are plenty of other options as well as the create your own bars (pasta and salad) which helps in terms of customizing food to your liking. We very much enjoyed the create your own pasta. We did marinara, alfredo, and then another night asked them to combine the two for a pink sauce. It was delicious and a huge hit across both families in the group. MH loved the surf and surf burger. I am dreaming of the nutella gelato with chocolate chips. I am going to miss that when we are at SSR in October

I think you will be able to find plenty of options that fit your needs at AoA. I have to second the PP who said the make-your-own pasta was great!!! You choose the type of pasta, the type of sauce, and the "extras" you want added (veggies, chicken, shrimp, etc.). They cook the pasta when you order it (it takes just a minute or two) and it's really good. And if you order a burger, you can have them add whatever toppings you want (lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.) or leave your burger plain. I also thought the pizza was decent (not gourmet and not the best, but better than some of the other on property pizza). And even though the french fries are labeled as "seasoned", I wouldn't consider them "spicy" (if that's a concern).

The really nice thing about staying at AoA is that it's a quick walk over to Pop Century's food court so you can head over there and have a whole new set of options.

Party of 6 with 2 16 year old and 2 10 years old and between space and price we decided to stay offsite.

Well long story short I finally decided to book a suite for our last night:cool1:

It was a bit more with the summer special pricing but we will now have magic bands and kids will get to stay onsite.

My biggest question is about the waffles. I have a Little Mermaid nut on my hands and I saw you could get Ariel waffles I am wondering if they are still available.

So happy to have atleast a day onsite:cool1:

How have others done with early room availability at this resort? If we get to the resort at 8:30 am and tell them we will take anything available (Lion King section), what are our odds of getting something by 1:00 pm?

In May we arrived before noon and our room was ready, in the section we had reserved (Cars), and all the requests we chose online were met (top floor, lake view). It was early May though so not really a peak time, but if you are asking for anything available then maybe you will have some luck?

That's encouraging at least. I am hoping to get into my room around one to get my little ones a nap before heading to Hollywood Studios, departing around three. :)

We checked in around noon last June and we had booked a room in Cars (originally booked Nemo but when discounts came out there were none available in Nemo) but the kids wanted me to switch to Lion King. So when we checked in I first asked if there was anything available in Nemo (there wasn't) and then I asked about Lion King. There were rooms available and ready in Lion King so we went straight to the room. Our originally assigned room in Cars wasn't ready (I just had to ask where it was to see what location we gave up. We had a *much* better location in LK than we would have in Cars). So I'd say there's always a chance -- especially if you don't have any other requests other than LK.

Crowded?

So we were going to be going just the five of us (2 adults, 2 kids, 1 baby). But then... well, the baby is not an easy baby. He is just a year old now and still doesn't sleep through the night and he's still pretty fussy. So... we decided to invite my mom and my aunt to come along with us. It's a good deal for them--we booked with free dining so adding them to the room means they literally are only paying for their park tickets. In exchange for that deal, they will be on baby duty. Which means going back early at night to put the baby to bed and things like that.

So now we will be 4 adults, 2 kids and 1 baby. The baby will sleep in the separate bedroom with the us, and one kid will share with each adult. The adults know that this is the arrangement and agreed to it because they are getting a practically free trip to Disney out of it.

How bad is it going to be? I don't know how often all of us will be in the room together other than to sleep and none of us are particularly used to having tons of space. Typically we have had two connecting rooms at POR or POFQ with them which is obviously more beds.
