Disney's ART OF ANIMATION RESORT Thread

Sorry to hear about the hassle of the move and disappointment. It's actually made me a bit nervous now. It will be our first stay on site and only decided on this due to DD6 first visit and having the disney theming. We have had to save for a long time for this trip (no doubt others have also), just want a smooth holiday. I guess you can't plan for electrical failures and stuff like that. Anyway, I hope the rest of your stay runs smoothly and enjoyable. :goodvibes

Although you never know what might happen I would have to reassure you our stay (8/20-8/29) was amazing. Stayed in LK SUITE and couldn't have had a better time. Already booked our bounce back there with free dining :)

We would consider staying at Art of Animation, but we need a toaster, which does not appear to be part of the kitchenette. Has anybody requested a toaster from housekeeping? Did you get one?
Thanks for your help.
snels:)

As far as I know, there are no toasters to request -- I've never heard of anyone asking for or getting one. I wish the kitchenette had a toaster as well. That would have come in handy for breakfast things on our trip. I plan to bring one with us the next time we go. We drive, so I don't have to worry about it taking up space. But if we flew, I'd probably just buy a cheap one at Walmart (like the ones they have out for "back to college" supplies right now) and then leave it behind when we left (which would provide more luggage space for souvenirs on the way home. :) )

Just read some of the other post about the Cars characters being worked on (one at a time). Anyone know how long this is supposed to go on? We arrive Nov 13 and the Cars theming is the only reason we're staying at AoA. It there will be construction, I'd rather move resorts.

We are here right now, Ramone was covered up today, but the rest of the characters were available. I don't think it takes away from the theming.

No toaster. We had a Garden Grocer order and when someone wanted a bagel I just walked up to the Animation hall and toasted it while I filled our mugs for coffee. There were three, maybe four double toasters in there.

We arrive the end of September and just like you, the ONLY reason we picked AOA was for the cars theme. Surely by your date, they'd be done but I'm thinking not so much for us. Between that and the closing down 70% of Nemo for renovation, it's got us pretty spooked as to just how much renovation they're going to end up doing.

I agree--having one car at a time covered really didn't mess with the theming. There is SO much! It certainly didn't make us wish we'd stayed somewhere else, and Lightning was the one missing when we were there (March). Now, if I had to miss a park day to move to a section I didn't request......I'd be hacked too, for sure.

I'd be expecting a whole lot more than a move to another resort. I understand $$$ wise, a Saratoga Springs 2 br villa is much more costly, but it is absolutely my least favorite place- the pool is nice, but it's so remote and has no Disney feel to it at all.

ITA. As another poster said, if you just wanted a place to sleep, you prob wouldn't have booked a super-themed resort to begin with (esp at the AoA prices). I know I wouldn't have accepted that particular move without some additional incentives.

Where did you hear they were renovating Nemo? Is there somewhere to read this information?

A couple of pages back on this thread, there were a couple of people talking about being moved:

At Art of Animation Resort Sept 12-21 was to be in the Nemo Suites but they called today and said they are taking 70% of Nemo rooms for renovation and moved us to Lion King Suites wasn't given any other offer

I've looked for any further information on this but haven't been able to find anything so I have no idea how much renovation is going on or how long it will last.

Yes, I remember reading a few people were moved due to A/C issues. But I've heard nothing about a renovation on the Nemo building and 70% being closed in September/October. This could mean a lot of people are moved to other resorts! And I DO NOT want to be one of them!
I've searched the internet and can't find anything about scheduled renovations...

I haven't found anything either, but the person I quoted said she was told 70% down for renovations Sept-Oct. Hard to believe more people aren't being impacted that they'd be able to move everyone to other parts of the resort.

I checked on availability and indeed, for the dates that poster said they were staying, there's no availability anywhere at AOA. However, after that date, Nemo is coming up as available so perhaps it's going to be down a very short time.

Hi all, first timer here (but frequent reader)

Wanted to post a very thorough review of our trip last week.

We stayed at aoa and I have to say, the place is awesome!

We had a cars suite planned for the whole trip until midway through when the electricity blew out in our building during the day. It only lasted a very very short time, and by 4:30 we left for a dinner reservation.

We returned that night about 8:30 and went to the front desk where they told us that everyone in the building was moved because there was no A/C.

So at 9pm, we started packing and then moved to the Nemo suite. Disney also gave us a $100 credit.

Here are some very random thoughts about the resort, hopefully you'll find some useful

The gift shop has snacks like donuts, entemen's mini cookies, etc. Food isn't only in the food court.

The food court has milk, pre pared sandwiches like Turkey & cheese, ham & cheese, chicken Caesar wrap plus sushi, individual bread slices, 2 liter coke, beer (individual and 6 packs) and the obvious other food items.

Neither lock worked on the bathroom pocket doors in our rooms.

You didn't need a rapid refill cup in order to get coffee, hot chocolate, tea, flavored teas or water.

Peanut butter and jelly packs were available, as well as butter, honey, grated cheese, hot paper, etc at the drink sections.

Each room has plenty of wrapped plastic utensils and paper towels and a can opener.

The pull out couch was hard to sleep on and not too comfortable while the pull down Murphy bed was really comfy, as was the master bed.

If you will have a child sleeping in the Murphy bed and are concerned about them rolling off, have them sleep on the side nearest to the wall.

Between them and the wall is the perfect amount of space for two chairs (side by side with the back facing the bed) and the couch back cushion between the chair backs and bed.

Have to run but I have more to post
