Hi - was the pool view loud and could you see any animals? Thanks for the help, this will be our first stay at AKL

....you canot see any animals if you have a pool-view room...:confused3

....as for the noise, we've had pool views 3 times now, and I honestly don't remember it being extraordinarily noisy. Of course, we've kept the sliding door shut, for the most part....hope that helps. Also, we've been on the 3rd or 4th floor during those visits, so I am guessing that might have something to do with it too....

Our room wasn't very loud, but then again, I sleep like the dead when I'm there.:lmao: No animals visible from the room but plenty of viewing areas available around the resort.

After a stay at CBR, DH and I are staying AKL CL 2/8-2/11 as a special treat to wrap up our celebration trip. (I am fortunate to be able to officially turn 40 while visiting Disney this February!)

Anyway... it just so happens that my DSis and her DH, DD(4), DD(3), and DS(2) will be arriving in Orlando at the tail end of our trip. They will probably visit us at the resort. Since I have been planning our glorious sans kids trip I haven't really investigated kid centered activities at the resort.
Can anyone recommend some activities, besides animal watching, for the kids while they are visiting us at the resort? (This is their first trip!)
Thanks!!!

....there are lots of activities throughout the resort! They can experience things from flamingo feeding, to cookie decorating, to story-telling, to campfire s'mores! I added a photo of poolside activities in my Trip Report, if you want to check it out:

You'll find a list of "Culinary Explorations," "Animal Programs and Wildlife Discoveries," and "Cultural Immersion" programs.

The Cultural Immersion programs take place at various locations around Jambo House and Kidani Village. Most are for guests ages 4 and older, while a few are more "adult oriented."

The activities include: Medallion Rubbing, African Face Painting, Music of the Savanna, African Folktales, and a Cultural Safari.

One of the more popular programs is a Cultural Tour of Sanaa - the popular restaurant located in the Kidani Village. This tour is led by a Cultural Representative of the hotel and gives guests a look into the inspiration behind Sanaa.

Both pools also offer hours of recreational games and activities including pool parties, wildlife games, bingo, "name that tune," and Disney Trivia.

If you're at the Jambo House, be sure to check out the afternoon craft each day at Simba's Clubhouse. It is usually scheduled around 2:30 p.m. every day, but check the activity sheet for accurate times.

We all know that sometimes kids just want to play some video games, so the kids can always spend a little bit of time at the arcade. It runs on the Arcade Cards system where you must purchase points to play. Cards can be recharged throughout your stay.

As evening rolls around, it's always fun to head to the Uzima Overlook at the Jambo House to participate in the night vision animal viewing. Cast members will be on hand with night vision goggles for guests.

And don't forget about the nightly "movies under the stars" that take place at the Uzima Springs Pool at the Jambo House and at the Samawati Springs Pool at Kidani Village.

We just got back a few days ago! It was an interesting trip, but AKL was fantastic. We had the very last savannah view room on the first floor of Kidani, so we had a bit of a walk (even though I requested close to lobby lol) but we really enjoyed our stay.

I will post a few pictures here and the rest will be in my TR, that I will link in my signature if anyone is curious.

Zebras! Was this the Sunset Savannah view? My goal on this trip is to just see the zebras and this gives me hope that I may be able to do so.

I've already announced my travel dates here, but we just got word over the weekend that our Value studio at AKV is now officially booked! We're staying for 9 nights in October 2015...sooo excited! We rented points from a wonderful member here on the Dis. She was awesome to work with and was on first thing each morning to add the next night, etc. :)

Back in Oct 2003, my hubby and I stayed at AKL for our honeymoon...And now we are going back for a ONE NIGHT STAY on Dec 4!

My hubby has to go to Orlando to for a client meeting. He had the brilliant idea to book a mini trip! This little getaway has evolved into something bigger then we expected. Luckily, because my hubby is a business traveler, my flight is paid for in miles, and my hubby's is paid for by the client! AND... our one night stay is paid for in points.. no, not DVC points, but American Express! I did not even know that was possible!

We booked a standard view, as we are only going to be there one night...but I'm going to ask if they have any upgrades for a fee. (if they have a nicer room available for $60 upgrade or less, we are going to jump on it!

Has anyone ever done that? What was the result?

We are going to MVMCP on Thursday Dec 4, and a 3 park whirlwind to see decorations on the Friday the 5th! We are then changing hotels for a 3 night stay at universal the 6th and 7th and flying home the 8th - we have never been there!

I loved reading all about your experiences and seeing your pictures...looking forward to seeing it in person in.. OMG!! 9 DAYS!! :cool1:

Sounds great! Regarding the paid upgrade, Disney resorts generally aren't like regular hotels that way, but it certainly couldn't hurt to ask, especially if you do offer to pay for it. However, since it sounds like you have a pretty full itinerary planned for that one night, upgrading may not be worth it if you wouldn't be in the room to actually see the animals! You might be fine just walking out to the overlook (outside at the back of the lobby) before you leave for the MVMCP and spending 30 minutes out there watching the animals. Enjoy!

....don't hold my words as Gospel Truth, but when the resort is not full capacity, sometimes they upgrade to a better room. Typically, December 4 is not considered 'High Season', so you may have a better chance. They won't come out and tell you; you'll realize it when you wind up with a pool-view or savannah-view room. When checking in, if you request an upgrade, it is definitely going to be more than $50! Even if you don't get an upgrade, there are plenty of locations to view animals throughout the resort...you are going to love this resort! :thumbsup2

This is a record for me. We've been home 3 days and I just booked AKL again today for late September, early October 2015. Savannah view. Yup, I've got it bad!:rotfl2:
