Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE Information & Questions

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I figured the AKL thread folks would get a kick out of this: I had dream the other night that we went to check-in to our room at AKL and they put us in a pool view. This would have been great at any other non-Disney hotel, but we had paid for a savanna view, darnit! I threw hissy fit at the front desk folks and they sent me to a CL room, again pool view. When we got to the room, it was dirty (linens thrown off the bed, garbage on the floor) and the pool was absolutely packed with people. Not only that, but instead of a regular bed, it was two twin sized beds pushed together. What a nightmare! LOL
....you gotta lay off eating that pepperoni pizza right before you go to bed! :teeth:

Would it be better to take a taxi? Is it a long ride because of a slow bus, or just a long ways to go?

it is a decent amount of time, but b4 going to DTD it always stops 1st at TL, so there's a delay there. then when you get toDTD there's always congestion.

Coming back always seemed to be worse. It always picked up DTD, (after a decent wait *if lucky ) then it used to stop at West side , then TL, then finally to you resort....

I feel like years ago the pool at AKL remained open 24 hours but lifeguards went off duty at a certain time. I'm pretty sure that has changed in the last couple years and that the pool now closes at a certain time. Is this correct? If so does anyone know what time that will be in early September?

  • Anyone have the number to call for room requests?

If you made your reservation directly through WDW, non DVC, 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639).

If you are using your DVC points, call member services at xxx-xxx-xxxx.

If renting points the member you are renting from will have to contact member services for you.

Anyone have experience doing the Wayama Safari and the Wild Trek at Animal Kingdom? I would like to book one or the other for my husbands birthday but not sure which is the better option. TIA!

What is the bus stop set up like? Are there different pickup spots for the different parks or is it just one spot? Also if you have a pool view room what would be the quickest way to get to the stops?

We have done both multiple times and would sign up for either again in a heartbeat!!

Wanyama is at AKL and is a ride through the savannahs followed by a family-style dinner at Jiko.

The Wild Trek is at the park and is more adventurous, more physically demanding than the safari!

If you and your husband would like a late afternoon/early evening event, I'd suggest Wanyama.

Wild Trek is offered several times a day - I would suggest morning if you're doing this in the warmer months! You will be wearing heavy vests for the first hour or so!

A note from your friendly neighborhood moderator.... it's DISboards policy to not allow posting of the toll-free number for DVC Member Services on the boards. I've edited it out of the post that contained it. Thanks.

Thanks Rachel Tori - Would you say one or the other had a better animal experience or are they about equal?

Just did my online check-in... must mean I am at the 60 day mark! :smooth: I can't wait! We are doing a split stay at Wyndham Bonnet Creek and AKL, checking in at AKL on October 9! It will be our first stay at AKL. I am dying of excitement. What will I do with myself for two months?! :hyper:

For close up to the animals, Wanyama would be the clear winner! There are safaris where a giraffe has been right up by the truck!

Of course, every experience will be different and you may not get within 10 feet of an animal, but on Wanyama you will definitely be much closer to the animals than the Wild Trek. The dinner at Jiko after Wanyama is a highlight for us also!

Having said that, my personal feeling is you can't go wrong with either! :thumbsup2

Hello...my sweetheart and I will be celebrating our one year anniversary at AKL in an Arusha Savannah View room October 22-26th. We are SO EXCITED! I've read this entire thread! Have I mentioned EXCITED!

Does the AKL Reservation team have a Fax number? I've had a look, but can't find a number specific to Reservations.

I'm used to faxing 5 days before my trip, and have had a great deal of success when using this method (must be my charming literary style!!).
