Has anyone used the lounge attached to Jiko for a light dinner?

We looked in when we were there the end of April around 7 ish and it was pretty crowded seemingly with folks waiting for Jikos. We decided on Victoria Falls instead. I had the Chick Pea balls and breads and DH the scallops. The scallops were too spicy (hot) for both of us. I think they used habanero peppers for the sauce!

Hope this helps!

We went to Jiko without a reservation and they seated us at "The Cooking Place" which was the counter next to the flatbread pizza ovens. We had a drink in the bar first while waiting for our table. There wasn't anybody eating at the bar at that time.

Only one month until our AKL CL stay, 6-12 to 6-15! It's been almost 8 years since our last Disney trip and we can't wait.

One question, on the morning of our arrival, our flight lands at 735 am and we are using the express service to the resort. I have booked an ADR at Whispering Canyon Cafe at 910 am, is that cutting things too close?

Yup, that's near impossible. Figure 90 minutes for de-planing, going through the airport, getting your luggage (maybe save 10-15 mins if you let DME take it for you), getting to the DME check in, waiting for the bus or on the bus for it to fill, and then to get to the resort, sometimes with other drop offs. (AKL has pop and/or AoA as drop offs first usually.). So even a 9:10 at AKL would be cutting it close. Then to get to WL, you need to go to MK, then switch to the boat back to WL. That in itself is 45 to 60 minutes. Maybe schedule something at AKL? Or just have breakfast at the CL when you get there and schedule lunch instead?

We have an AKL pool view bunk bed room booked. I just saw that prices dropped for our dates and could save alot of money if we switch to a standard view. The standard view description says that there are rooms with bunkbeds available in that category. Having bunkbeds is much more important to me than the view. But I'm sure there is no guarantee when I book standard that I will get bunkbeds, like having a pool/bunk booked.

Does anyone know how many standard rooms there are with bunkbeds in them? I'd like to know the rough odds before I decide to switch and hope or stick with the guaranteed bunkbeds.

Thanks.

Not sure how many in the standard category, but We were just there and had booked a standard room and received a room with bunk beds. Unfortunately, this room didn't work for us as we needed 2 queen beds so we were moved to another room.

I'm interested in this answer as well. We recently switched from pool view/bunks to standard view but really want bunk beds more than anything. I considered keeping the pool view bunks purely for the beds but the savings was too good to pass up. I plan to request a room with bunks if its an option in online check in.

I was able to get a reservation at AKL at a DVC standard view studio. Are they in a particular area or wing? It says it is at Jambo House. Also wondered what the requests would be when it comes to online check in.

Just switched our reservation from CSR during free dining to AKL! Very excited that rooms opened up here for the promotion! We'll be there November 14th to the 22nd. You think the Christmas decorations will be up or go up during our stay?

I was curious if one of the requests for room location for online check in would be Kudu Trail. I was there just recently and one of the requests for standard view was Kudu Trail, which I managed to get. However, I was staying in the hotel part not the DVC part. Wondered if it made a difference.

From what I understand, you can eat from the Jiko menu at the bar at Jiko, it's called Cape Town Lounge & Wine Bar. Without a reservation, they don't take them. Would like to keep it as an option for the 'too tired to make an ADR commitment' situation.

From the WDW website:
Sample South African wines at this intimate watering hole near Jiko – The Cooking Place. Enjoy an appetizer and wine pairing prior to your meal at Jiko, or order from the full Jiko menu and dine at the bar. A full bar is also available.

We arrive Nov 14th - 21st Jambo House:cool1:

Never been to AKL before. Staying Sep 19-26 in Jambo House, standard view. Any room request suggestions? Looking at the map, I'm not sure which area is best to suggest for standard view rooms. Help please!!!

I can't comment on the menu from Cape Town Lounge but Victoria Falls is/was exactly as listed on the WDW site here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/animal-kingdom-lodge/victoria-falls-lounge/menus/

The scallops were really spicy imo. I rate spicy hot as too hot for me and so hot I can't taste anything for the rest of the day. Those scallops were the latter.

Hope this helps!

We just keep it simple and request a room close to lobby and elevators. That puts you in a pretty centralize location to everything.

Hi everyone. I just booked a DVC rental for Dec 12-18 at Kidani Village Studio Savannah view. I can't wait to try out this resort.

Staying CL in three weeks for the first time. Is there any need to put in a room request? Seeing animals is most important and that's guaranteed with CL right? Is there anything else to request ?

Two years ago when we stayed standard I asked at check-in for any standard that did not have a parking lot view. We received room 4486 off the Zebra Trail. We were in the first wing that juts out off the main hall. Very close to the pool. We used the outside staircase to get there everyday. Also close to the lobby and restaurants. We had a partial view of the Uzima Savanna. We thought it was a fantastic location
