Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE Information & Questions

I am in research mode for a family vacation this December. I'm very interested in the AKL as the resort because our kids (to be 5&7yo) really love animals. Our budget would not extend to book a savannah view room, must be standard (even with the free delicious offer).
My question is, what are the opportunities for my kids to enjoy the animals w/o the room with a view? Are there areas on the resort where we can look at the animals? Also, can anyone describe experiences with the special safaris offered?

yes lots of viewing areas. we booked standard room. google their activity guide, there is lots going on!

i think the special safaris offered are only to conceirge level guests..someone please let me know if standard room guests can book it!

Do any of the concierge level DVC 2 Bedrooms have any kind of Animal view. Or, have you ever lucked out and gotten a 2-bedroom with a better view that wasn't DVC?

I think they are open to all including non residents
Once open a time there was a Sunrise safari offered only to AKL concierge guests - that Safari is no longer offered but I think it's the cause of the concierge guests only can book rumors.
Any AKL/AKV guest can book the Wanyama Safari. I think the night safaris are the same. I don't know whether the new breakfast safaris are open to all or limited to AKL/AKV guests. I think anyone can book lunch with an animal keeper at Sanaa. Disney does change things up, so I wouldn't be surprised if who can book what changes.

There are 10 rooms on the 6th floor for DVC CL. Half are pool view and half have a Savannah view. We just stayed 4/17-20 and had the Savannah view. We had 4 giraffes, 3 zebras, and ostrich outside our room at night! DVC is luck of the draw. There are much better Savannah views that are non dvc.

We just walked in from our stay at AKL-CL. I have not had a chance to catch up on the last couple of pages, so I apologize if some of this has already been mentioned.

The lounge closed early yesterday for the relocation which began today. We didn't get any kind of notification about the move until last night. We found out on Thursday, but only because we asked. We asked earlier in the week as well, but they had no information for us. The lounge is re-located at the very last room on the 4th Floor and the desks are in the room next door while the lounge and 6th floor DVC rooms get their refurbs. Because of the new location and the fact we had to catch ME at 10:05 this morning (and had breakfast at Boma before that) we did not get to see the way the rooms are set up. It was just too far out of the way to be worth the trip and we didn't feel the need to walk all the way over there just to scope it out. I would not be happy if we were just checking in today, unless they will be using the rooms closer to the temporary location for CL guests.

The breakfast offerings were more than enough for us. Cereal (hot, cold, quinoa), pastries, fruit, hard boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juice, milk, yogurt. More than enough to get your day started. The rest of the days offerings were a little disappointing.

We did get nightly turn-down service and our little AKL chocolates every night on the beds. I don't know if we got it because our anniversary was put on our reservation. :confused3

There were a lot of positives and some negatives through the trip. Nothing that ruined our trip at all. We still had an amazing time and look forward to future AKL stays (may skip CL in the future though). Now it's time to re-join the real world.

For a Standard room, if requesting a "people pen" view on Kudu Trail, how far will the walk be from the room to the lobby, restaurants, and bus stops? We understand that there are very long walks from certain rooms to the lobby. We have never visited the property before so we are trying to understand the distances. Thanks in advance.

What floors are the DVC 1 bedroom rooms on at Jambo House?

You got some confusing replies. On the sixth floor: the 5 club level one-bedrooms and the five club level studios. All other dvc rooms in Jambo are on the 5th floor.

Thanks! We were on the 3rd floor by the lobby and it was amazing!! Hoping to rent points and bring the family next summer!

Can anyone confirm if pack & plays are IN DVC rooms in Jambo or if I need to request one?

If I request is it guaranteed that I'd get one?

can someone tell me how i am going to fit DD4's airbed, it is a crib size mattress area but also has a bumper around it, so a little smaller than a twin size, and also DD1's pack n play? We managed in Little Mermaid to fit her air bed, it fit a the foot of one of the beds and went right to the wall. it made going to the bathroom a challenge to step over it. looking at the floor plans AKL standard rooms look small. We were spoiled at the Grand Fl and Yacht Club which fit our needs perfectly, but we are trying to do something new each visit. We have never stayed at AKL

Thanks for reporting back on this. Glad you hear you had an amazing trip! We're headed for a Club Level stay later in the month. It's disappointing to hear they relocated the lounge to a regular hotel room. Though it remains to be seen, it's hard to imagine wanting to hang out there in the same way one would in the regular lounge. Takes away part of the appeal. We got a great rate on our room, so downgrading to a lower room type wouldn't impact our cost much at this point. Otherwise, I'd consider dropping CL after hearing where they've moved the lounge. I'll report back on what our experience is like.

Just back from our first stay at AKL. I must admit, I have mixed feelings about our stay. The "resort" itself is spectacular, but our room was a disappointment. We were in Jambo House, savanna view, 2nd floor, with a queen & bunk beds. The room was dark and very crowded, not enough storage space and the cleaning was subpar. We had to call housekeeping several days in a row for toilet paper, washcloths, etc. DD slept on the top bunk and it wasn't made, just blanket moved. (I do leave a tip each day) I know so many people say "you're only sleeping in the room", but I enjoy a nice hotel room and this was not the case.

We enjoyed the pool area and the lounge. Sanaa was wonderful, as usually. Was not impressed with Boma. Really loved watching the animals on our balcony. But the walk to our room was SO FAR! And I was a bit disappointed in Mara.

DD & DH want to stay again. I would prefer to return to the Yacht Club!
