Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR MOVIES Resort

FWIW, I was able to upgrade to POR for a difference of $338.70 for our five-night stay in September. I'm not telling DH as a surprise, but I think I'll be able to justify it with the rehab going on.

So what do you think my chances are of getting two connecting rooms on a *free preferred upgrade* to toy story now that everyone is either changing to other resorts or requesting rooms closer to the quiet pool????

I requested either toy story or dalmation WAY before they became preferred rooms....does that help any?

Should I still call in my request early? Would I sound petty calling to confirm a preference for a building that is now considered preferred??

I don't really understand the whole standard/preferred. We're going at the beginning of September. We paid for standard. We requested Toy Story. They didn't say, "No, you have to pay for preferred." Our reservation papers even have that down as a request. Maybe they changed Toy Story to a preferred room after we booked. :confused3

I booked in April and at least since then Toy Story, Dalmatians and Fantasia are preferred.
The idea of preferred is to be near the main pool, the food court and bus stops, and those three are the nearest.

does anyone know when this happened?

I am in the same boat, I made my reservationasked for the TS building, when I called to confirm I was told TS was a prefered room thing... so I was suckered into paying the difference... now the pool

so I am going to have to walk much further with a 3 and 1 year old to the pool and risk construction noise for the 1 year olds nap....

gaw!

I think it's a relatively recent change. I had no idea that Toy Story was a preferred building until last week. I also requested Toy Story and they put it down as a request (that was last March) so the change must have come about since then. I think, while it's not guaranteed, your chances are higher than if you said nothing til check-in and with so many (including me and my family!) moving to other resorts (we're going to ASMU) that can't hurt your chances either. Good luck!

Well I just talked to WDW.

apparently all of the other value resorts are totally booked for the entire time we will be there so we would be unable to move to another resort...

anyhow I asked about the extra amount of money we got scammed into paying to get a prefered room so we would be more likly to get a toy story building so that we would have a longer walk to the pool and construction noise durring our 1 year olds 3 hour nap midday...

I suggested I downgrade and get my money back for the prefered room, I was initially told this would incur a $50 fee but he checked with someone and we just did the downgrade... any other building would be closer to the pool and just as much risk of noise why pay an extra $150 bucks!

I am not happy

When are you going? We are seriously considering changing rooms.

We will arrive Dec. 16. I understand the Fantasia pool refurbishment is scheduled for completion by Dec. 11. Has Disney been pretty good in the past about sticking to their refurbishment schedules? Or will there likely be construsction delays, resulting in the pool not being ready as scheduled when we arrive?

I've just spent an hour reading through this entire thread. Wonderful fun for a crazy-planner like me! This will be my first trip onsite w/DS's 5 & 2. A few quick questions that I'm sure I overlooked......

So it's official--no more soap dispensers, the Value resorts has the cute Mickey toiletries too? I know it sounds crazy, but we kept some as keepsakes from our last on-site trip (8 years ago)

Anyone been recently? Did your room come with a fridge? I understand they are extra, but a friend of mine went a few weeks ago and one was in their room. It was unrequested and they weren't charged for it.

I understand Toy Story Section is now prefered. Can you please tell me exactly what to request of the reservation CM.......we'd like non-smoking, Toy Story section, quiet but still a nice view of the decorations.......I'd like the top floor (keeps from hearing guest above you).
Or, the Herbie section......same requests, but I think that section is farther away from buses/main pool :confused3 .

We are going in the middle of February, so hopefully it will be an easy time for requests.

Anyone use the pools in the middle of February?? I'm assuming they are heated???

Also, when I make reservations on the phone, is that when I give my room requests. And then it was suggested I call about 4 days before we go, do I call the same number (407-WDisney) or the resort itself?

I'm sure I'll think of more questions later.

Also, Stephen---thanks so much for starting this thread. I loved all your answers and advise I read over on TGM too. :thumbsup2 Used him for my last trip and will use him again for the next one!

Are you all certain that Toy Story has been changed to Preferred? I ask because I just called Disney and the lady told me that she was showing that only the Dalmation building and the "Fantasma" building were preferred. And yes, she actually said "Fantasma" which makes me think she just might not know what she's talking about. But I just wanted to make sure this isn't a snowball effect from one person "thinking" that it had been changed.

Yes... I am fairly confident that it was changed

when I made my initial reservation I was told it wasnt... then it switched and I was told it was so we paid the upgrade... now i demanded my upgrade money back so I assume our room will be in herbie on the backside and we will have to get there through a closet and it wont have any AC but a speaker so I can hear all of the construction noise while my kid is napping

I was told it is now prefered because people request it so often...I guess so many of us mommas of boys are trying to make up for the princess power overdose with Buzz

::yes:: What did they expect when they put those other movies in with Toy Story? None of those hold a candle to Toy Story.

I think that's it, exactly.
