Oh! Congratulations on the DVC and the 2 week vacay for Canada Games. Can't wait for PEI to hold the winter games again. I think I was in grade 9 the last time they were held here. Now that I'm a teacher, I would love to be able to go to Disney in February, I hear it's so much slower than summer and March!

I love that you want to pack. I don't think I packed 200 days out, but I probably started a list. I'm all packed except for things I need this week. ;)

Hello neighbours. I am in Moncton. :) We are heading down in Oct, week before Thanksgiving. And I AM packing already ;) WE drive down to Portland. ASmo is our home away from home, we've always talked about going elsewhere, but we always come back to ASmo. (granted a monorail resort would be awesome, the cost not so awesome)

Hi! I can't wait to stay at ASMo. My dream would be to stay at all the resorts, but my budget calls for values more often than not. I've loved Pop and Music, so I know I'll love Movies. I just love being at Disney. I'm glad you like to go back, I'm sure I'll be the same!

ETA: Too fun that we've got NS, NB and PEI represented here.

we've stayed in south portland on our maine journeys, but i could never find deals out of there for flying. plus it would be kinda pricey for us with the kids to stay in nb and maine. plus gas. hubby has family in nb, scattered all over. i still love movies and always will( it was my first disney resort!) but now with dvc, i have the option of the deluxe resorts. yay! october is really nice tho for sure! we came back the friday before thanksgiving last year. our week was hot. but crowds were very very low.

but of course! lol on facebook i've even made friends in ontario that are crazy about the mouse and he used to live in ns. small world!

This is awesome to hear! That is the week we are going to be there this year. Oct 2-8th, will be home for my mama's turkey dinner on Sunday. Mmmmm Drooling just thinking about it. Even though with Free QSDP I will be on a food hangover. I expect heat, but is it a really muggy humid heat?
We have always done DW at ASmo in Dec (2nd week) and the crowds are usually fair. I can't compare to anything else. Some things you need Fastpasses for. We've got along fine, but Im hoping for more meet and greet oppurtunities and for little lineups for photopass.

We keep thinking of ASmo..we can't stray. Sure if we had the money, we'd do a monorail resort, but at the savings, ASmo is awesome!:thumbsup2 Chicken fingers and chilly fries the day we fly in. DS is talking about eating ice cream by the kiddie pool :rotfl: Only 2 months to talk about DW food. lmao Settle for my cooking for now.

How has the weather been that second week of Dec. We are considering going that week this year

Two years ago it was FANTASTIC. About 80 every day, and dry, not humid. The night we arrive it was cool, we wore hoodies. Scared me, I guess it was windy and cool a few days straight by the time we arrived. But cleared up, no rain, sun every day.
Last year we had 3 dry warm days (not HOT) One raining cool day(were in shorts and tshirts and wished we had pants and hoodies..not freezing but wet and cool wind), and 2 days of hot humid days. From the rain I think. It wasn't great, I just dont like being cold IN Florida. But they also had a sort of 'freak' season this year. This has prompted us to head down in October. Plus we wanted to try Halloween vs Christmas...change things up. Oh, and its our anniversary.
Crowds, well they are the only thing that we know, hard to say if it is 'bad' or not. Always people, always busy, but not overly. some things had high wait times, FP it. We enjoyed going with the flow. Free dining plan helped last year ;)
I'd say be sure to have at least 2 pairs of pants.. usually I wear one down and one for the day home. Then if its chilly, you have options. I wear a hoodie on the plane, not a jacket and then if I need it down there I've got it. There is never a moment I think, I wish I had my winter jacket lol
BUT, the only thing I can say, first year we drove to portland in an Everything storm..sleet, rain, ice, snow. Then when we came home Portland was stormed in, flight was canceled had to get a hotel. Got to Portland and Drove home and there was another storm headed our way. Decided not to stay over in Bangor and just head home to avoid any more storms. Last year we went down and it was fine. Coming home a snow storm hit us at the border and the highway to saint john was BAD and got worse to moncton. So just as long as you are prepared, wherever you fly out of, know you could need a night at a hotel or something in case.

But it is BEAUTIFUL at Christmas in DW. Pulling up to ASmo is always so much fun seeing the Christmas tree. I remember the kids in the kiddie pool playing the first year and the song White Christmas was playing on the speakers. i was like, it's 28C out, this is SO weird. :rotfl:

I leave tomorrow! I'll take a bunch of pictures to share. Last year I took 4000 pictures in 8 nights, so I'm sure I'll take a few of the resort! :rotfl:

I am sure this has been asked before but I haven't seen anything recent on this topic....what are the positives and negatives of these 2 value resorts. We priced out a moderate and we can swing it but I would rather save the 500+ dollars and stay at a value:thumbsup2. Our attitude is that we are only sleeping, showering and changing in the room and the rest of the time we are in the pool or parks. We are not picky at all! My DD :love:princess: is 11 and speical needs (autism) and we prefer a place with a pool with no slides (she tends to hang out at the end of the slide where the water comes shooting out :scared1: and half my time is spent getting her away from there). From what I see both places have decent pools (yay no slides :worship: ) and the rooms are about the same sized. I guess what I really want to know is:

*Bus service, which place is better (if either)
*which has the better food court
*which is the most crowded (going in the end of Oct 2010)

Also, anyone know if the free dining has been extended this year like last year?

Thanks in advance,
Tina

I cant answer all your questions as we have never stayed at Pop. It was initially my first pick, but we went with ASmo and fell in love first glance.
From what I know of the Pop (I did some research)...
They have one bus, where AS (all 3) share the buses. It wasn't often we had a super full bus. (in Dec)
End of Oct will be busy I think no matter where you stay. Halloween is just a busy time of year (from what I've heard)
I love ASmo pools! There is the kiddie pool with adjoining splash pad. Then there is a splash pad over near Herbie section. It has fointains that pop up from the ground spontaineously. Also, in the main pool we enjoy bringing our children (5 and 4)..holding them... to where the fountain lands in the water. Sounds like your daughter would enjoy that (you mentioned the slides and falling water) as long as she doesn't mind her face getting wet.
Pop is newer, it was built after ASmo was. ROoms are more updated, this being said if you google each resort, and a pic of the rooms they look pretty much identical.
We enjoy ASmo because it IS Disney. Our kids are into all the different themes at the resort.(movies that is)
I can't say I understand what it is like to have a child with autism. All I can say is that for us, with 2 small children, the past 2 years in mid Dec, we haven't had many issues with the buses (just that they aren't the monorail:laughing:) or the grounds. It is very kid friendly and always something for them to do and look at. It is a huge part of what we look forward to doing on our vacation. Settling into our room, going for a dip in the pool, and I love love love the food court. We haven't gotten anything bad there, nor have we had bad service. Everyone there has been helpful and just great!

Oh, and there has been some extensions of the Dining Plan. Not sure of your dates, it is only for certain weeks. But I do hope you can get it! We LOVE LOVE LOVE free dining. For the 4 of us, it is the BEST deal to get. But there are also room discounts, if I were you I'd price everything out (as long as they are for your time period) and see which is cheapest. 20% off your room, and you pay for your dining plan, or free dining and rack rates for the resort. kwim? They also have had the kids stay free, not sure if it's extended though.

I've seen that Toy Story, Fantansia, & Dalmations have preferred rooms, what I was wondering is are those whole sections/buildings all just preferred rooms or do anything of those buildings have standard rooms available like at the rear area futher away from the main area and pools?

I am pretty certain that it's the whole section, regarless of what you are facing. One thing I noticed being in the Herbie Love Bug section is that the end of the Fantasia buildings is very close to the Love Bug section. I'd request an area...we have requested the closest room to the main hall. Whatever section we get, that's where we will be, hopefully it will be close! We like to use our refillable mugs a lot and would rather a close room vs a particular section.

Thanks. I may swing the extra $10/night then if we stay here, but I actually prefer a quiter location, like in the Toy Story section, at the bottom of the "T" exact opposite of where Woody is, if that makes sense.
