Disney's After Hours one of the best MK experiences I've ever had...

....and it was complimentary!

We stopped by the VGF concierge to ask a question, and they chatted with us about DVC and which park we were headed to. When we said the MK, they looked at each other, then one turned to us and asked if we'd like complimentary tickets to After Hours! It totally took us by surprise.

We rearranged our day, switching to Epcot, then a long rest at home, then back to the MK at 10 p.m. By 11, the park was practically empty. We walked on Space Mountain, and were able to follow "the special pink line" to get on again without having to go through the whole que. My DH and DS left by 12:30, but my BFF and I stayed until 2, riding Thunder Mountain without getting off, Mine train with a 5 minute wait, Splash Mountain with no wait.

Our last ride was Pirates of the Caribbean -- there was no one else in the boats before or after us. I think we closed down the ride. It was actually kind of creep to be in their so alone -- especially when the boat pauses in the total darkness. We thought...."Hope they know we're still on here!"

It was a very memorable evening. The price point is too high -- which is of course why we got the free tickets, but it would be great if they could find the equilibrium to make it work on a limited basis for the niche of people it is right for.

First, I am glad that you had a wonderful time.

Other thoughts, Disney oversells admission and runs commercials to max out the parks during the day, then closes the parks early to admit guests who paid $150 extra to beat the crowds, talk about greedy smart business directions.

My second thought is if they are giving away free admission and the park is empty, not enough people are paying to keep the product in place.

Another factor is demographics- I'm too worn out to stay up late, after a day at Disney especially. Younger parents would have to hire a sitter to stay in the room with their kids (I've done that, and loved it, but the Premium Package is well out of my budget now). Older teens, with abundant energy do not have abundant funds. Costs of paying CMs to work, with little revenue, will likely affect this program continuing.

Great deal if free, way to expensive if you pay, even if as a DVC member we get a discount...smjj

Oh I think you are certainly right. The ticket is overpriced and is not selling well, which is why we got ours free. It's such a niche market at that time of night. Good for single people and couples who can stay up late!

Nice! Glad to hear you had a great time. That would be a dream come true . . . I mean the no wait lines, not the empty boat ride in the dark!

Talked to others at the pool at BWV who got it free while there last week. They were at mk that day and approached by CM who offered it to them. We wouldn't have done it because we just don't do late hours. Heck we were at BLT for 8 nights and never made it to the roof top once because we were too lazy to go up there. It was a long 16 day trip between BLT and BWV. Happy to be home! Happy you enjoyed it OP!

I paid the $75 to go on May 5th, and I don't regret it at all. I was amazed at the number of really young children and babies. But it is still as close as it will ever get to an all adults event. I was solo and it was liberating!

Just booked it. Coming in a day early and nabbed VGF for the night, just now. Grabbed BLT yesterday in tandem with booking the DAH, but VGF is my favourite DVC resort. It's absolutely crazy what inventory comes up last minute.

Thanks for the review. I live for late nights at WDW, so this will definitely be a smile inducing night.

Hopefully I will make my plane!

Have a great time! Nothing like a Splash Mountain pic when you are the only one in the log :) My favorite thing was having Dumbo all to myself!

Based on other reviews it seems everyone that has gone has had a great time. I think with anything this new and at this price point, word of mouth is the best advertisement. As to whether they keep offering it, only time will tell. I certainly hope they do.

I do think it would be much more successful at the $75 price.

Thanks. :cloud9:

Well I will try that!

Haven't slept all night. Reminds me of the old "Can't sleep!" promo.

Not sure if it's pure excitement or the new Pepsi Ginger I decided to try around midnight. Sigh. Or could be old age. Laughing.

Regardless CAN NOT WAIT! So excited.

Wonderful time. Landed at MCO around 7 pm. Arrived at the VGF, took in the lovely view and room - dropped the bags and off to the Magic Kingdom. Did so much before 11pm, wasn't crowded, that I didn't stay to 2am.

First time ever leaving a special night early but I was totally wiped and my partner in crime felt sick after 7DMT (I know, I know - I need someone with a ride stomach!!). I would pay the $75 again to go. Heck it would have been a wonderful night to walk around with my camera and take it all in.

I happened to be on the PeopleMover at the beginning of Wishes. That was magical. Saw Tinkerbell come down at an interesting perspective.

I did feel like I wanted more people around, sounds strange I know. I don't mean for safety at all, I live in a downtown core - smiling.

I mean I think I missed the energy of more people; despite the pay out of walking into everything. I guess more at the level of an EMH.

I hope that they keep it. I either do APs or vacations without passes and this felt like a great option for the latter.

I know what you mean! When we travelled to Disney the year after 9/11 the week after Labor Day the parks were empty. EMPTY! To the point where it almost felt sad. It was weird to miss the crowds.

Well nice to know someone gets it. :) Thank you.

Energy is really something. One poster wrote how she felt really *off* in a her BLT lake view (the most coveted spot - high floor/half lake/half MK view). She couldn't place it at all. Since it was a prime view. I said "Oh I know, I stayed in almost the exact spot. You're just someone who needs to see people and some kind of movement/action. I couldn't figure it out at first and it came to me.".

She replied back that that was exactly what she felt.
