So my fiance and I are starting to toy around with ideas for our honeymoon, we are getting married Sept 2013. We know we want to do a 2 week trip and we are going to kick it off at Disney of course. We will probably stay 8 or 9 days and then head to the Caribbean for 4 or 5 days to finish it off.

We discussed potentially paying cash our first night to stay at a concierge level accommodation at GF or Polynesian before using our DVC to stay for a week or so at BWV. We saw that this could be kind of pricey but figured it would be a nice way to kick off our married life :goodvibes

Does anybody have any input on this thought and whether or not it would be worth it? If we were ever going to splurge to do it, it might as well be then!

Thanks for the input!

It's your honeymoon - I vote to go ahead and splurge for the Concierge room. :)

TIP: Pack a small separate bag for what you need for that first night so the pack up between the GF/Poly & the BWV doesn't need to take a lot of time. You'll probably be without a room between 11 and 4 on changeover day, so plan accordingly.

Congratulations on your engagement and upcoming nuptials. :)

I'm with Carol on this. You only have 1 wedding night, make it a special one!

Best wishes :goodvibes

PS would the 5 nights to the Caribbean be a cruise?

I agree with the others that it is your honeymoon and you should do what pleases you.
However how much will you actually use the club level service? Check in is at 4 and check out 11 so you will miss any lunch snacks. If you arrive on the night of your wedding you will miss the evening appetizers too. Therefore for your extra money all you will get is a continental breakfast. If you stay for several days that would be different. You probably wont get much use out of the IPO for one night either.
I agree that the GF or Poly would be very romantic for your first night, although the CR would be cheaper.Use extra money for a MK view and watch the fireworks from you balcony. Have breakfast delivered to your room the next morning. Breakfast in bed rather than breakfast with other peoples kids - far more romantic for a honeymoon. Save the kids till your next trip!!!!! They may be yours!!!!!
If you really want club level then rent points from an AKV owner and stay at AKL. It has a lovely club lounge and gives you access to an exclusive safari. AKV club level must be booked at exactly 11 months.

Whatever you decide will be the right decision. Congratulations :)

Thanks for the input... we didn't really think much about the check in and checkout aspect of it.... it's a lot to think about!

Have any of you stayed concierge and if so which did you like best?

Thanks!!

I have only ever stayed at AKL club level which is lovely.

As far as I am aware the Poly has a great lounge with a view of the MK. GF has two different club lounges the best of which is RPC, this is located in the main building. The other is in the SL building.

I am just worried that you may be disappointed with GF and the Poly. Club level aside neither are in the best state of repair and although the GF is the flagship resort it has let some honeymooners down in the past. I would just hate for you to spend $500+ dollars for one night. See the following link:

Obviously this is not reflective of every room at the GF. Most will be lovely, however if you got that room and a croissant for your money - how would you feel?

Both resorts will be there when you can afford to stay for an extended period. DVC villas will be available in the next year or so. You could use your points there one day.

Having said all that, it is your big day. Do what makes you happy.

I cannot speak for all couples...but on both our first night as husband and wife and then a few weeks later on our Disney honeymoon...I can say we would have been happy in any room, any where because we were together. In fact, our first night together was at a Fairfield. It was still magical, amazing, and memorable. For that first night are you going to be able to take advantage of staying at such an incredible resort or would any place be an incredible resort if you are with your beloved? :thumbsup2

Maybe a promise of a stay at Poly or GF for an anniversary? :goodvibes Hey, by then you might even able to use points!

I've only stayed at AKL club level so I can't speak for the others, but we checked in there about 10:30am, and even though the room wasn't ready our key worked for concierge access and we were allowed all the amenities of the lounge. Heck, they even brought DH a beer at 11am when he asked! :goodvibes

We got married at Disney 5 years ago. Our first night was complimentary, but we could add an additional night but had to pay for it of course. My initial request was to stay at the poly, but after speaking with my wedding coordinator, she recommended staying at the boardwalk. We stayed in one of the rose garden suites which is a concierge level. Let me just say, that it was truly AMAZING! They are two story rooms with living room, kitchenette downstairs with a loft bedroom and large bathroom upstairs. AND you have an adorable private rose garden out front. With concierge rooms, you are able to go to the lounge any time of day, before or after checkin/checkout on the days of your reservation. DH went with him bestman on the day of our wedding to eat in the lounge way before our room was even ready. I didn't even know about it until days later. But once you've checked in, you have access to the lounge, and even after you've checked out, you can still get into the lounge.

Go for it!!!!princess:princess:princess:
