Disneylanders ! Need October Advice _

Quick note on my Southwest fares. I booked last night, and they are already up by $10 this am. Two interesting bits of advice for Southwest - book each way separately. It costs the same, and if you have to switch one leg of your trip, then you only have to deal with the $$ associated with that leg of the trip, not the whole round trip.

Second - I noticed when I put in the fare for one adult (this am just to see)it was cheaper than when I put in for all four for our way out. It must be that they raise the price as the plane fills. Since there are no seat assignments, the thing to do would be purchase them one at a time until and see how many you can get before the price goes up. This wasn't the case on our return trip - it was the same for 4 passengers as it was for 1.

Go book it! :thumbsup2 If the price goes down (doubtful) Southwest will put a credit toward future travel in their system for you.

Now I need to go create a new countdown ticker!

Don't forget though on Southwest that you have to check-in via the web 24 hours in advance... to the minute... or you will get a really low seating number (you stand in line to get on the plane for open boarding by number, so the closer you are to 1 the better--although #'s 1-20 are reserved for full-fare purchasers) and might not be able to sit together...

I was on SW last month, and a family of 4 got on practically last, and the flight attendants had to ask if anyone could move so that the kids could actually sit with a parent.

I don't know what would happen if you booked everyone individually... when you do web check-in, you might get a 30, a 45, and a 60 or something--will they let your whole group be with the #30 in line??

Families with kids under a certain age can board in between the A and B groups.

When you have separate confirmation numbers, as you approach the 24 hour mark, get as many browser windows open as you have conf numbers. Go through the SW checkin system as far as you can go before that 24 hour mark, doing your confirmation number on one window, hubby's on another window, kiddo's on another, etc. Get it to the same spot, right before you click to check in, on each page. Then as your 24 hour time hits, just go window to window, clicking the appropriate button. boom boom boom boom, and you guys are right in a row, or really close to each other.

My SIL checked DS and me in and I don't think she did that, and we had one person "in between" us for the boarding passes. When the gate agents told the A people to get in line, I took DS and we were going to the later number to be polite. But when the lady in between our numbers realized that I had one before and one after her, she was incredibly sweet and insisted we stand in front of her.

But when I have checked us in, using the multiple browser windows, we've all gotten consecutive boarding pass numbers, no problem.

We've flown Southwest a number of times - even from Orlando on Dec. 23rd when it was supposed to be incredibly busy, and have had no problem with seating. I think we've had A or B most the time, and with older kids, it isn't a huge issue for me - but a good point. As a matter of fact, my youngest son sat next to a retired police officer ::cop: from Denver to Orlando last Dec. He kept him in line :cool1:

They stopped doing A, B, and C... it is now numbers in a line-up, supposedly so you don't have to get in line super early...

Oh, and no more pre-boarding for parents either... which really sucks!

There is pre-boarding, but it's between A and B.

And there is still A, B, and C, but there are numbers for each of them. Our last SW flight we had A 21 and 23 (my story above) or something like that. When they call the A group, you go up and line up in numerical order. When they call B and C I assume it's the same, but I always have A so am not there for those letters.

Not exactly what I would call preboarding... being between A (which I think is numbers 1-60 and B! I used to fly Southwest all the time, because with preboarding you were the first on the plane... not anymore... but I guess if you screw up and don't check-in early enough to get a low number, then at least you won't be #120...

Holy moly. We're going on our trip about 2 weeks before you in October, traveling from PDX to LAX like, and the cheapest I can find is like $300. I really need to do more research on flights.
Try flying into Burbank (BUR) instead. It is much better. Smaller, less busy and typically cheaper than LAX. DING fares are @ $120 each way for July. On top of all that driving to Disneyland is easy from Burbank! Also try Alaskian, might be cheaper.

We will be there for the Trick or Treat Party, Friday, Oct 3rd. I bought those tickets first & then looked for hotels. We have GCH for the weekend. I bought them through AP but if you are a DVC member it is $1 cheaper a person, FYI.

Ok - to beat that dead horse :rotfl: my hubby just walked in the door from flying Southwest, and the A-C stuff still exists with numbers on both sides of the poles - #1-30 (or so) on one side and the rest on the other.

I would love to fly into Burbank actually as I am planning on visiting some friends in Santa Clarita - but for us, it was much more expensive than LAX.

Ok - payback for bragging on my good fair with SouthWest - Frontier just came down today for our exact trip dates/times and I could have gotten an even better deal for our return leg on them. That's what I get for bragging and then looking! :(

Check if this is any better: http://www.alaskaair.com/ or if they even fly where you are. I flew with them a few months ago from Northern Cal to Portland, Ore. It was on time and really no hassles. Plus...you can pick which seat you want when you make your reservation!

I love alaska, fly with them most often now... and typically I can get very comparable rates to southwest now, out of PDX...

Our school district is adding back the Fall Break this year :cool1: So, we will be there the 21st - 25th. Can't wait! The airfares on Southwest are unbelievable as low as $69 each way from Denver to LAX. That sealed the deal.

ColoradoMom: I just booked the same thing! Our fall break (in Cherry Creek SD) is the week after yours but I got $69 one way and $79 the other. Too good to pass up, I"d be criminal not to go right??

Hey Colorado Mom - we too fly out of Denver and were debating the Southwest airfare for the same dates as yours, but were waffling. Didn't book it, but now have the great Frontier rates! The key to not making you feel bad is to not check back at the rates. :thumbsup2 Do you do the LGM thing? I have one on our backpack that we carry. Yell if you see one while you're there.

Just a heads up. end of october gets cold at night. it's like someone hits the switch and turns on the A/C right around the 3rd week in October.

it also gets windy so it's a hit or miss with the fireworks displays.

Husker and ColoradoMom If your traveling with kids, take Frontier, bring along headsets so they can watch TV
My Fam is going to WDW in july on frontier I would never dream of putting my kids on a flight more than 2 hours without entertainment.

I like to have 1 stop flights it allows my kids time to get off the plane and stretch their legs.

My thoughts exactly!! :rotfl: It would just be so wrong not to go!

How fun - we will look for you there! LGM - guessing that is a Lime Green Mickey??

Yes, I couldn't believe the Frontier rates, but I had checked their complete package, and can't remember if I checked just the airfare that same day of not. Oh well - it wasn't too much of a difference although the little TV's would have been nice. We joined the frquent traveler club thing with SW that have a few trips on them, so that's a plus for us and SW.

We'll be jetting down I-80 next month on our way to Niagara Falls. We'll give you a shout out as we pass through Nebraska! :goodvibes

We went last year mid October, loved it so much we are going Halloween weekend again this year. Mickeys trick or treat party is great. Tickets are onsale now for APers and Disney Visa cardholders. They wont be released until August 1 if you have neither of the above.

HTH!!

keep in mind that if you go to MTTP on Halloween itself, they are not giving discounts at all unless they consider $37 to be the discount...we will have to wait till the actual prices come out for everyone else in august to see:confused3
