I know I am going to get flamed big time for asking this question!

I will be 6 months pregnant on our trip to disneyland. And this is my dd first year that she is going to be tall enough to ride splash mountian. And I want to take her on it. I want to see her face, and share the experience with her.

I have been on this ride before and I know what to expect. The only thing that is iffy about the ride is the drop right? I don't remember it being a huge smash or have impact.

When I am six months pregnat I just look really fat not pregnat so I don't even think the employees would think that I was pregnat.

Or maybe I should just do the right thing and not go on the ride, then I don't have to worry and I don't have to regret anything.

Jen,

I sure hope this does not sound like a flame, but do you have someone else that can take dd on the ride?

If you do, can you buy the ride picture (like you can in WDW)?

I would not risk it, but that is me. The risk is just not worth the moments thrill.

Good luck in planning your trip! I am certain you will have a great time even if you don't do Splash this time.

I always answer these questions about rides while pregnant the same exact way. There really is only one question. If something happened, would it be worth it? If something happened later even if the ride did not cause it, would that always be in the back of your mind and would you be full of regret? That's what I always asked myself when I REALLY wanted to ride while pregnant. Not worth what you would have to live with later. Atleast for me. Good luck with whatever you decide. It really is fun just to be there, even if you don't get to do thrill rides.

Sorry not meant to flame, just my thoughts to anyone who ever asks this.

I'm going to put this very plainly. This is not a flame, it's just information.

That drop could cause your amniotic sac to break. If it does, and you deliver your baby at 24 weeks, your baby might not make it. Yes, there is technology that can save your baby if that happens, but here's what your baby is likely to suffer from if he/she does make it: blindness, heart problems, HUGE lung problems, and mental retardation.

Please, don't risk all that for one little ride.

Just a guess but I would imagine that even if you wanted to the CM's would not allow you to ride.

Just think of it as an "excuse" to have to go back to Disneyland.

I would be on the safe side and not ride anything like that. You can still have fun with the kiddy rides-I know it's not the same, but it's better to be safe right.

Ya'll are right, and I even knew in my heart that not taking the "splash" is the right thing to do. And what a better excuss to have to come back? Risking my babies life is just not worth it.
plus can you imagine the regret? It would be endless till the day I die.
thanks for the responces.
Jen

I commend you on your choice. I know it's not easy to go and not go on the big rides. It was like they were calling my name while I was there. But they will still be there next time. In the mean time, enjoy yourself. I found that some of the best times were when I didn't ride much because I seemed to take in and notice so many other great details. Good Luck.

Andrea

You can go to the Disneyland website (www.disney.com, then click on Disney Destinations, then click on Disneyland) and look up rides for Disneyland and California Adventure, and they will list restrictions there.

Also, my 2002/2003 guidebook says that there is indeed a snapshot taken on Splash Mountain at Disneyland.

Thanks. I checked, and SOC is restricted, yet some "unofficial" web sites say its fine for pregnant women. Anyone have any idea why pregnant women would not be able to go on Soarin'? I've never been on it, and I'm about to make a once-in-a-lifetime trip to DL with a "bun in the oven." I guess I can always wait for the EPCOT version, but it would be nice to have some clue about why it's a problem.

I read that pregnant women can't go on SOC too. and I have no clue why not. I went on this last year I don't remember any reasons why pregnant women shouldn't. My only thought is that disney just doens't want to get stuck with a law suit if something were to happen.
Jen

You have to keep in mind that Disney will put a restriction on anything that might possibly cause any kind of problem, just to be safe. My guess is that SOC is restricted because it's a simulator ride, and they usually have some kind of jerking involved. Just a guess, though.

I have been on Soarin over California many times and cannot imagine why you would not be able to ride this one. There is no jerks you only move at the beginning when they raise you up to view the screen. The Birnbaums Disneyland Guide always lists after each ride if pregnant women should not ride and they do NOT say you shouldn't on SOC. I think you would be fine.

You do have to wear a seat belt right across the tummy.(i think)
So if it's restricted that could be a reason.

<font color=navy>I agree with the seatbelt comment. That's the only reason I could imagine that that ride would be restricted - it's so smooth when you're on it.

Hi all! I am also 6 month pregnant. We went to DL/DCA in early January and I made the mistake of going on SOC. I got so sick! I was just starting to get over the morning sickness and this ride brought it all around again -- I didn't feel well for the rest of the day!
In the official "Guests with Disabilities" book, SOC is ok for pregnant women, as is POC. Splash definately is not OK. I know it sucks not getting to go on it -- my 3 yo is a thrill-ride freak and has to go on it at least 3 - 4 times each trip (thanks Dad!). Perhaps someone else could ride it with her. You could video the picture they take of her (on the display) or try taking a picture of the display (just remember to turn OFF your flash) if you didn't want the shell out $12.95 for the photo.
I feel like the designated "pack mule" when we go since I don't get to go on very many rides, but it is worth it to see how excited our little girl gets! Take it easy while you are there. If you need anything, don't forget about the baby center and first aid on Main Street.
Hope this helps!

Kathleen

I just got back from DL/DCA and rode Soarin twice. There were warnings about people afraid of heights and things like that, but I saw no warnings for pregnancy. I am not far along, so the seatbelt was no problem.

I was at DL 5 mos. pregnant last year and went on SOC. At that time there were no signs warning pregnant women not to ride. If there were, I definately would not have riden it three times! Also, I was obviously preggo and no CMs stopped me from riding.

Have a great time! I do feel your pain about missing SM. I was very upset I could not ride Indiana Jones. My favorite ride - and I don't get out to CA from NH that often. But a healthy baby was well worth these and other sacrafices!
