My wife and I are going to come to Disneyland and I wanted to know if Paradise Pier is worth all the hype? Are the Meal Plans worth it for a Family of 3?

We don't feel the meal plans are worth anything so we do not use them.

I'm not sure what "hype" you're referring to regarding the Paradise Pier, do you mean the area inside the park or the hotel?

We have never considered the meal plans at Disneyland and not sure what hype you are talking about. If you are a WDW vet there are some extremely useful threads here in the stickies.

Paradise Pier and "the hype" are not two words I've ever seen together. Grand Californian and DL Hotel are better than the PP.

The Paradise Pier Hotel is a nice place. It is usually the lest expensive Disney Hotel. Staying on property will give you a few extra perks.
We have stayed there in the past and we did fine. It's not as far as people say for the walk to the parks. We were able to see the fireworks from our room which was nice. We were too tired to stick it out at the park. It was a nice surprise to see.

As far as the meal plan... I have never used the meal plan. There are so many place to eat, we haven't wanted to be tied into the plan.

Okay and so let me retype what I was trying to say....

Is Paradise Pier worth the "Hype" of the that Hotel?

We are thinking about getting the Meal Plan for us 3 that will include the Character Meals as well and wasn't sure if they were even buying or what?

As was previously stated the meal plans are not worth the cost. You basically are only pre-paying and then if you do not spend the value of the voucher (get a $7 meal with a $8 voucher) you loose the $1 and if you spend more than the value of the voucher you will pay the difference.

I am just starting to research for my upcoming first trip to Disneyland. One of the things that I have found out is that their meal plan is nothing like WDW and as PP said not worth the money at all. As far as the hotels, from what I have read, there are many offsite hotels for very good prices and some are closer to the parks than either Paradise Pier or Disneyland hotel. We have decided since our trip will probably be a once in a lifetime, to stay onsite at the Disneyland hotel. I like the idea of being immersed in the magic. But everyone has to make that decision for themselves based on their wants and budget!

Paradise Pier is nice, not as nice as Disneyland Hotel or, of couse, the Grand Californian. If you insist staying on-property, then this is fine. You can always cut through the lobby of the Grand to get to PP faster and they have a fun waterslide on the roof top pool. But if you would rather save your money for meals and souveniers, then going with a cheaper hotel. You just need clean and close since most people are only in their rooms to clean-up and sleep

We've never used the meal plan at DL, only WDW (which is worth it there since there are so many specialty restaurants). I wouldn't recommend it. You can always surf the menus on the DISboards since they have all the prices and guage by that....

I would LOVE to stay at the PP or the DL Hotel, but it seems that I don't have the funds right now, I wish DL Properties were the same price as the Good Neighbor Hotels

That'll depend on when in April. If its the week before or after Easter they'll have max hours (8-12 DL and 9/10-10/11 DCA). After that it'll go back to off season hours: long hours Fri-Sun with nighttime entertainment, shorter hours during the week 9-9 or 10-8 (depending if some schools are still on break) and no fireworks.

Max hours and crowds. Easter is the 8th.

as one who liked the plans i say read up on them make sure it is what you want. my dad didnt want them this year for him and mom with us on the trip so we got gift cards for the char meals we wanted to do. Whenn its just me my hubby an son i enjoy the plan and i have not seen a way i lost money in less i didnt go to a meal i planed for

We really enjoyed Paradise Pier a few weeks ago. It was a great place to stay! The Theme Park Views are really worth it!
