Disneyland "VIP/Reserved" Seating for Fireworks?

Hi all..
During a trip last year, I was walking towards the park entrance/exit with my 9 year old niece when the fireworks were about to start (she said she had no interest in watching them, and I'd already seen them). It was packed, and everyone was standing in Mainstreet, with a little room for a make shift walkway on the sidewalk, and then some people sitting at the table outside the cafes/restaurants along Mainstreet. My niece was doing the look behind her in awe while I pull her along with me thing, so we stopped to watch them a bit, making sure we squeezed in behind the crowd. We didn't block the walkway, but there were 2 ladies sitting at a cafe table, who started screaming at us and one of them (old enough to be her Grandmother at the very least) pushed my niece along. Not wanting to have a big altercation to end our lovely day, I just told her there's a way to say things nicely, and without putting her hands on people. (Soooo proud of myself for keeping my cool and setting a good example for my neice :rolleyes1). Her response was that they paid extra for VIP seating there so we weren't allowed to stand there. We just moved down further to avoid further confrontation.

My question is, is that really a VIP section? I would think CM's would have it roped off or something. If not, is what I did rude? Maybe I didn't use the proper etiquette or something? We're going again in July, and I'd like to know before I go so I don't run into the same problem. Thanks all!

Well, two things are at play here.

The first is that yes, there is VIP seating for the fireworks that is available to guests on VIP tours and other VIP visitors. That IS roped off and there are "Reserved" signs posted.

Last I knew, however, VIP seating is near the castle, not at restaurants on Main St. It's possible she was implying that she "paid extra for VIP seating" by paying to have a meal at that table?

The only VIP section I am aware of is in the center of the hub and it is roped off and a cm is present to make sure only VIP's sit there.
I could be wrong but I don't think any of the eating establishments offer VIP seating. She was just being a :rolleyes1

Thank you, this is what I thought. There were definitely no ropes there. I think she just didn't want to stand and didn't want anyone in front of her. (But we really made it no worse as there were tons of other people in front of her). Thank you for the responses, just want to make sure I know for next time! :goodvibes

I just had VIP seating for Fireworks not two weeks ago and we were right in front of Main Street Station. It was roped off and they had benches for us. I thought it was kinda far back, so it's entirely possible there's more than one VIP section.

This is the only section I have seen. How does one get these seats?

At Christmas time, the VIP seating is in the Hub. During other periods it is usually at the Main Street Station.

VIP seating is generally for those doing VIP tours and a few other "groups".

For those of you who have stayed in VIP seating areas, isn't it generally roped off? Or at least have some kind of border to identify where the VIP section begins/ends? :confused3

Sorry OP for the experience you had. I don't like that this person "handled" your niece. Who does that? What is wrong with people? It is just fireworks for crying out loud!

Thanks! That was my thought. I think I was too in shock to even be rude back if I wanted to. Some people.. Jeesh :sad2: But, thankfully we had an amazing day, and we didn't let it ruin our night. :thumbsup2

There are actually usually two VIP sections for fireworks. The V-VIP section is the benches right in front of the castle and then there is a typically another VIP section which can be a standing area right behind the partner statue or benches at the main street train station. They will sometimes just combine into the one depending on reservations on the list. Those sections are for company VIP's, certain tours, Club 33 members, VIP tour guided gusts...

These are all correct responses.

That woman was very rude to you and you handled yourself remarkably well. It's a shame you had to deal with her.

I'm not defending the bad behavior of the rude ladies OP was talking about- but I have to say.... I don't care for rides, but love fireworks!! I claim my seat 90 minutes before they start. Almost every time , someone purposely comes in at the last minute and pushes ( or try's to push) me so I will share my space. So, I now am more vocal, and would tell people to move. ( and possibly, not with my nice voice ). Unfortunately too many rude people try to take your space and you get defensive.
So OP was not trying to block these ladies, but many more before have tried , and they are probably feed up with it.

I definitely understand that.. I wouldn't push in front of someone to steal their viewing spot. But at the same time, I just thought it was unreasonable for these women to think no one should stand within 10 feet in front of them because they were seated. Perhaps they could have stood up? We squeezed behind the last of the standing group, but were in front of the ladies because we could not have stood behind their table that was against the wall.
