Hi,I was wondering what information anyone has about the DVC opening at DLR. We will be at DL in December and would love to use points there.
Thanks

As of yet, there is no DVC there, but they are building a DVC wing at GCH.

I just got back from DL today where I stayed using points. Living in AZ but being a DVC member, I use my points here more than WDW.

The DVC area doesn't seem near completion, however you can still use your points to stay at any of the three DL Resort hotels. This was my first trip staying at GCH, and it made me almost certain I will buy when the new units are offered. Just like the cash pricing, the PPH is cheapest point-wise to stay, DLH in the middle and GCH highest. Usually I try to stay at DLH, because it's closer point-wise to PPH than GCH, and is right there at DTD and the monorail, PPH is a little further. All three hotels are great though.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how many points does it take to stay at DLH for an off season night and perhaps for a high season night? thanks

DLH runs between 18 points - 26 points (holidays) for Sunday - Thursday
29 points - 42 points (holidays) for Friday - Saturday
Standard view.

Other views are more.

There is a chart on the DVC member website, or you can check your "vacation planner for 2008- 2009" for your dates and room view preferences.

I'm staying at the GCH hotel for one Sunday night in May (value season) and it is 24 points for a standard view.

Thanks! I am trying to decide if I want to buy in to DVC, but we are in Washington State, so probably will only use in California.

We're looking at DVC in the future for use at DLR as well. How many times a year do you go and use your DVC points?

We live in Seattle and I bought into DVC a few months ago getting 160 points, we will mainly go to DL and use our points. Once when GCV opens we will be doing an add on. Since our son is young we will plan on visiting on the off seasons and we could make 3 different trips in a year staying anywhere from 3-5 nights depending on which resort we stay at. For you plan on buying into the GCV when it opens I have a great guide who is located at DL instead of WDW. Let me know if you want her info or need a referral to get the extra incentives!

As far as how long you stay depends on how many points you buy into...

..and since they haven't released the points charts yet, we don't know how many points will be needed for different times of year and room sizes. I am planning to add 75 points with the hopes that they will get me at least one nice stay a year (or 2 if just in studios) I can't wait until the preview rooms are ready and had hoped they would be when we're there, but so far that looks like a nope! :)

Let's see... I have close to 200 points in a use year, and I will probably end up at DL three times on that, plus a trip to WDW. And remember, one of those trips was staying at GCH and with a DTD view, so it cost more than it should have. I forget how much was borrowing and how much was from the previous use year.

I like to travel though at non-peak times, and stay on cheaper days. Also, I do short trips, never a week.

I'm eager to see the points chart when they open up the new units.

That said Trod, if you want to buy DVC, wait until the GCH is open: It will give you priority when booking there (i.e. 11 month window as opposed to seven if you bought elsewhere and tried to book at DVCDL). Some rumors were that the amount of points offered overall would end up being taken up by the time the current DVC owners got through with them, but some people I've spoken to at the parks deny this.

There are still questions about DL DVC, date opening, (as said) points per night... I have a few others: Once DL DVC opens up, will it be like AKV/WLV, where you can't stay at places at that resort? I mean, I really liked the DTD view, but will that no longer be an option (DVC will be on the other side of the building to DTD and the entrance to DCA)? Also, will it affect staying at the other hotels as well using points?

That seems likely, as you cannot stay at Boardwalk, or Animal Kingdom, or Wilderness Lodge on points (except for the WL campgrounds and cabins). So, I'd bet that we can't use points for GCH anymore. It will be interesting to see if DLH or PP is also affected.

we will join dvc when we have better jobs and stuff it is worth it. Living in AZ we would use them mostly in DL but i would want to try to do wdw..or the disney adventures to irland

If I had to guess, I would think DLH at least would be still useable. Just as you can stay at other places in WDW on points that aren't DVC locations. PPH maybe, and I would think so, since it's not as cheap as the AS hotels or PC... Although it's not a popular view here, PPH is the equivilant of a value hotel.

I wonder if then they may convert some of the rooms in other parts of the GCH into DVC units, like how AKV has some in the old building. Just curious still because I would like to stay in the same type of room again as I did this weekend.

We purchased DVC at DL in Oct. and have already used our 160 developer points for 2 weeklong trips at the DLH this year! We just booked the Grand for a week in June (Value Season) for I believe 24 points a night. We plan on purchasing 160 points at the Grand Villas when they become available because we will take most of our vacations at DL. DVC will definitly save you money in the long run even if you only vacation in Calif. We figured a week at the Grand in June would run over 2,000 dollars even with our AP rate.

Me too, I would love to learn more about this program. Where can I go?

There is a whole forum with subforums on DVC, in the dropdown below the Disneyland forum. :)

And if you're at Disneyland in the future, stop by a kiosk and set up a meeting! They are supernice, they have childcare (free!), and sometimes they run specials where you get a gift card for the presentation.

The guy who did our presentation was such a sweetheart, and as far as I have ever heard, the salespeople are really mellow, NOT your typical timeshare people at all. As our guide (future guide, for now just the guy who did our presentation) said, even if we don't buy today, we'll buy in the future, and he's patient. :goodvibes

I'm in WA too, but honestly I'd probably continue to stay offsite and use the points for trips out to WDW. But a lot of that will depend on the points needed, b/c really, I like the looks (in pictures) of the places out at WDW more than I like the GCH's looks.

I can barely wait until we can buy into DVC, but wait we are!

So do you think it would be reasonable to say that on average 200 points got you 8 nights at one of the hotels?

Then does this math work out?

For Old Key West:
Pay $80 per point for 200 points=$16000.
34 years left on plan=$470 per year
Dues=$912
Total per year=$1382
$1382/8=$172 per night at one of the DLR hotels

Or
For Vero Beach Resort
Pay $63 per point for 200 points=$12,600
34 years left on plan=$370.50
Dues=$1208
Total per year=$1578.50/8=$197

Are the points at Old Key West and Vero Beach Resort all the same, when it comes time to book at DLR???

Points at each resort have the same value within DVC, the difference beign you can book ahead of everyone else at your home resort.

When using DVC points to stay at DL, everyone gets the same 11-month window(at least that used to be the winodw), which is the same as if booking at your home resort.

Dues go up each year, and Vero Beach apparently tends to have higher dues because of being on the coast (it's not in WDW, just in case you didn't know).

I don't know the specifics about buying at the older properties, as I don't know what DVC holds or offers. Nowaday they seem to be pushing mostly SSR and AKV, where they still have points from the initial offerings. Those points seem to be for $108 (not including deals), but what's nice here is the SSR still has about 45-years left on the contract while AKV is brand new with 49-50 years left.

I don't believe the GC DVC will be available for use until 2009, and as of Tuesday my guide didn't know when the points would go on sale.

The preview rooms are due to open on Friday, May 23, and there will apparently be a bit of a reception of some sort, so if you're lucky enough to be at the parks then be sure to drop in!

I wish! But we leave the 17th. I know CA DVC'ers have gotten a postcard for some event around that time frame. I always miss stuff by -----that much :)

The DVC Villas at GC are not scheduled to open until Fall (Nov I believe) of 2009.

We're planning to visit DL next summer and will be booking a 2br at DLH for 6 nights. My expected point usage is approx 425 points !!!! That is compared to the reservation I just made for Old Key West Resort for 6 nights this Nov
at approx 175 points.......And I know I won't have a kitchen at DLH !!!!
