Disneyland to Magic Mountain on Labor Day

Any ideas how long it would take to get to Magic Mountain from Disneyland on Labor Day morning? Rental car location at Downtown Disney opens at 8am. Magic Mountain opens at 10:30am. Mapquest indicates an hour and a fifteen minutes I understand rush hour could create gridlocks, but would the holiday result in less traffic with less commuters or increase as everyone is on the road for the holiday?

I think most of your traffic headache will be coming back - there will be lots of folks coming back to LA from a 3 day weekend in environs north in the evening. Morning traffic will be lighter than normal for that time of day due to the holiday though.

Most people are off work so rush hour through downtown LA on I-5 should not be a problem. Even on rush hour days its usually light after about 9am. As PP noted, holiday traffic should be southbound and could be very heavy from about 10am-6pm. Northbound should be fine. Heading back to Disneyland after Universal closes should see moderate to light traffic but hard to predict. I'd give yourself 90 minutes northbound but it could be shorter. Figure 15 minutes to park and walk to the gates.
