Is it similar as WDW?

20% TS and bars
at WDW there is no tipping on QS apart from WPE where the food is brought to the table, what is customary for Disneyland?
housekeeping?

At DTD the non-Disney owned QS-like places may have a tip jar. It's optional, but I'll usually drop my loose change from the transaction in there. For housekeeping probably in the $3-5 per night range, it depends. People tend to be in 2 different camps, tip daily, or tip once at the end of the stay. Unless I'm asking for something extra, I don't tend to tip daily. But some hotels have little cards that tell you who is making up your room that day, and now I've come to take that as a hint that tips are appreciated daily. If it's only a 2-3 night stay I'd probably leave the do not disturb sign out and tip at the end.

Housekeeping - We tip $5 daily. You often have different housekeepers.

Table service - Minimum 15%, great service 20-25%.

If you're going to tip housekeeping, do it each day you have them come in. It could easily be a different person each day. To tip just once means you likely aren't giving all of the people the money you intended to give. You might give multiple days worth to the person who just came in that day while ignoring the others that were there before.

If you are asking extra service from housekeeping (e.g. lots of "extras" like more towels, more tissues, more everything; super careful vacuuming; clean up for a big mess; etc.), tip extra. One time our oldest wet the bed badly, so we tipped $20 to the poor housekeeper who had to clean everything up. If it is a major holiday, we tip extra (between $5 - $10 extra, depending on how major the holiday and how many of us are in the room). Agree that it is best to tip each day of your stay so that each housekeeper for your room gets a fair share. For TS restaurants, we tip 15% normally and 20%+ for super good service. For CS, we put the change in the tip jar.

I too am a $5 tip per day for housekeeping, and I will put my change or a dollar or two into tip jars if I see them. I always do the $5/day for housekeeping because as others have said, the staff may very well change daily and I would feel bad to only tip on the last day and have staff from previous days go overlooked.

At "traditional" places like a TS restaurant, my boyfriend and I always tip at least 20% and sometimes more but again this is a very personal preference and you will get a lot of varying opinions.

We do tip both positions more if it's a holiday and especially a major one.

What about Character Breakfast at the Plaza. Is tip appreciated or is it in the price of the meal ? Not stupid just naïve :)

We tip $5 per day housekeeping, 20% at all restaurants, including character breakfasts. We tip the same at Disneyland as everywhere else.

I just did Minnie's Breakfast last week (for the first time). Guests pay as they enter, so I did not tip. Everything is buffet (including drinks), so a tip did not seem needed. CMs do clear the tables, but I did not notice anyone leaving a tip on their table. Some buffet characters meals have waiters for drinks and special requests, with the bill presented at the table -- I would tip in this situation.

waves hi, fellow Irish person, been doing solo trips to Disneyland California for the last few years. This tipping business is a headwreak. For California the best advice I was given a few years ago, by So Cal friends is to double the tax on the bill. This is the easiest way in California, but for other States might not work out as each State has different % food tax.

Not only do different states have different tax rates, but even different counties and cities within states. For example, Orange County, CA has a tax rate of 7.75%, while L.A. County has a tax rate of 8.75% (these are average rates for both counties, but it can vary by city). So doubling the tax is a good rule of thumb, but make sure the tax rate isn't higher than average where you are. For example, Long Beach and La Mirada aren't far from DLR and their tax rates are 9.75%. Doubling that puts your tip well above 15%, but if you wanted to be generous anyway, you'd still be fine.
You can look up "tip calculator" on your phone to help make things much easier.

Tipping culture is very different in Ireland, tipping the same won't work for us. I usually check what are the customs before I travel

I mean tip the same as everywhere else in the US - not everywhere else in the world. I'm from Australia and we don't tip at all (except in exceptional circumstances)!
