I am a moderator on another Disney site where someone wrote that that person was planning to go to Disneyland in Thailand, which I had never heard of before this morning. Now I am seeing nothing about Disneyland Thailand in the Global Neighbors section of Disboards so I am asking here. What do you all know about this Disneyland in Thailand?

While googling I found mention of ideas, of "disneyland for adults" (meaning a place with naughty things) in Pattaya, and of Phuket FantaSEA or Bangkok's Dreamworld,. Could they be meaning one of the last three? Or are they just drastically confused about their Asian geography?

They could be referring to a trip to Thailand with Adventures by Disney. :confused3 But I can't find any such trip.

The only parks even close to Thailand are Tokyo and Hong Kong.

Well, the way I see it, you have 3 possible reactions to this:

1) You tell them in a nice way that they are mistaken, and that there is no such place.

2) You just don't get involved, and simply wish them a wonderful trip.

or

3) Since they don't really seem all that up on Disney anyway, make a little profit from it. Tell them that you have a special Disney Thailand All-day Front of the line pass that you can sell them for the low price of 100 dollars per person. :thumbsup2

the choice is yours - make it a smart one!!!

Ooh I pick 3 I pick 3!!!
I'd just politely ask them about Disneyland Thailand and say you'd never heard of it and only heard of the one in Tokyo and Hong Kong and you're curious to learn about it?

There's an asian Disney "doppelganger" park which is a total blatant copyright rip off of just about all Disney trademarks. However I don't think it was in Thailand...

I think there are two in China. One is mostly a carnival with a bunch of Disneyesque rides. The other a blantant copy of all things Disney and more. But I read in an article that China was forced to deal with the copyright infringments of that second park in the Shanghai negotiations. Who knows I don't trust China and don't by aything from them when given a choice.

Shijingshan Amusement Park in Beijing was a blatant rip off of Disney both in park design and even the characters (which they also stole from other properties like Universal and Warner Bros). They claimed their characters were based on the original fairy tales, but they obviously were based on the Disney versions.

When the Japanese press brought it to the media, there was a big uproar. Disney was in further discussions with China about HK and Shanghai, and the government (which reportedly ran the park) stepped in and they were supposed to remove all the offending items.

As for Thailand, maybe he meant Shanghai?

Edit: Here is some of the coverage showing their "original" characters - take note of the "cat with big ears"...

There's several blatant Disney ripoff parks. My favorite is the (recently closed) Nara Dreamland in Japan...it was like ghetto Disneyland

Oh, yeah, Nara...that was built not long after DL as pretty much a total knockoff of the park itself, but they stayed away from the characters. There was a cheap version of the Matterhorn (and a skyway through it), a monorail, a train station...it was getting in its final years, without any guests to speak of. It closed several years ago.

There are some videos (including vintage ones) on YouTube.

Oriental Land Company wanted to build Tokyo DL back in the 60s, but this park is thought to be one of the reasons Disney wouldn't talk to them...

My own Internet search had turned up the same "Fake Disneyland" content that has been described here, and that is why I came here. A travel agent on the other site said that Disneyland was everywhere, and I wondered if something had gotten past me because Disney has property in South Carolina and in Florida outside of Orlando that a lot of people don't know about. I am no expert on either Disney or international travel so I wondered if there was a new Disney resort that was too new to have gotten much PR yet.

The person who is supposedly going to Thailand's Disneyland is from India so I don't want to get into what is or is not "real" with that person who may have no experience with what we consider Disney. I did, however, ask for a trip report. It will be interesting to see what comes back when that person gets back home. Let's hope the family has fun though wherever it is that they are going.

Trust me, if Disney has a resort somewhere, the DIS knows about it. :) We also know about where they've planned and where they announced and then never built. We also know where people swear up and down on Walt's grave that Disney is buying land in <insert location here> to build another park...

The Hilton Head and Vero Beach locations are part of DVC, and are strictly resorts - nothing resembling parks.

Now, if there is a place that calls itself (or is referenced as) the "Disneyland of Thailand", I don't know. Heck, we even had a place in Massachusetts that closed in the 60s that called itself the "Disneyland of the Northeast".

Disney does offer the "Adventures By Disney" trips, but they aren't necessarily linked to a Disney resort or park, but simply a planned trip with guides, etc. For example, you can travel to London and Paris on an ABD trip - and it doesn't include doing to DLP at all, or staying at the resorts!

The property nobody knows about are the Disney Vacation Club Hilton Head Island Resort in South Carolina and the Disney Vacation Club Vero Beach Resort in Florida. And they have both been open for quite a few years.
